The whirlwind tore through the battlefield, shattering the hulking giant into pieces. Yet, before the dust could settle, the fragments began to wriggle, reforming the creature's broken body.
Rhodes stood with his arms crossed, a glimmer of interest flashing in his piercing eyes.
"Impressive," he murmured, watching the giant's regeneration. "Not as strong as my Grace of the Sea or my Immortal Body, but still... terrifying in its own way."
The Eternal Night Legion possessed an extraordinary resilience. No matter how grievously injured, they would rise again, seemingly immune to death. Worse yet, anyone killed by them would join their ranks, swelling their undead army.
No wonder they inspire fear across the world.
Rhodes' gaze darkened. If not for the gods' intervention, this world might have become the Night King's eternal dominion.
But how had the Night King created such an unstoppable army?
Suddenly, a deafening boom rang out as demonic energy erupted, obliterating the nearby legionnaires.
The Merciless Sun.
Rhodes extended a finger, summoning a blazing sun that descended like a divine punishment. Fire surged, sealing the cavern entrances. Infused with infinite magic, the flames burned so fiercely that even a demigod would be reduced to ash if they dared to approach.
"Arrogant fool!"
The Night King roared, his voice reverberating like thunder. Seeing Rhodes challenge the entire Eternal Night Legion alone infuriated him. Gripping the spear impaled in his chest, the Night King yanked it free with a sickening crunch.
A bone-chilling cold swept through the cavern, coalescing into an ice crystal giant towering over the battlefield. With an earth-shaking roar, the giant swung a colossal fist at Rhodes. The frost was so intense it seemed capable of freezing thought itself.
Yet, before the blow could land, Rhodes moved.
Boom!
The Spear of Destruction tore through the giant, shattering it into countless shards. The Night King, standing behind his icy creation, fared no better. The destructive force tore him apart as if he were made of paper.
Rhodes tilted his head, his expression unreadable.
"Is that all?" he muttered, almost disappointed. The demon who once forced the gods to seal him… dies this easily?
From the swirling void, the Night King's voice rang out, cold and mocking.
"Human, your strength is surprising. Even I underestimated you."
The pieces of the Night King's body began to coalesce, mending themselves. He materialized once more, unscathed and radiating an eerie, otherworldly aura.
"But do you know why the gods sealed me instead of killing me?"
Rhodes' eyes narrowed. He sensed a power emanating from the Night King—something ancient and intertwined with the very fabric of the world.
"I am one with this world," the Night King declared, his tone laced with malice. "To kill me, you would have to destroy the world itself."
Thick roots emerged from the void, burrowing deep into the unseen corners of existence. The power of the world coursed through them, rapidly restoring the Night King's strength.
"Do you see now? As long as this world endures, I am eternal. You cannot win."
The Night King's rage cooled, replaced by a calculating calm.
"Human, there is no need for us to fight," he said, attempting diplomacy. "My enemies are the gods, not you. There's no reason for you to risk your life for their sake."
But Rhodes merely grinned, his teeth gleaming white against the cavern's darkness.
"As a human, I believe in keeping my word," he said, his voice dripping with menace.
"And I promised to kill you. So, one of us dies today. There's no middle ground."
Rhodes glanced at the Night King and the surrounding legionnaires, his gaze filled with cold disdain.
"Don't misunderstand me," he added, as if explaining to a child. "I'm not looking down on you. I'm saying every last one of you is trash."
The Night King's calm demeanor faltered, his fury igniting anew.
"You think you can escape death in this world?" Rhodes mused. His lips curled into a smirk. "Fine. I'll just take you somewhere else."
With a burst of blinding light, Rhodes appeared beside the Night King. A gaping portal yawned open, its swirling depths leading to an alien world. Before the Night King could react, Rhodes delivered a devastating kick that sent him hurtling through the portal.
The Night King crashed into a mountain on the other side, disoriented and furious.
"Welcome to my domain," Rhodes announced, stepping through the portal. He gestured expansively to the world around them.
"This is my Chessboard World. Here, I am the absolute ruler."
The Night King's connection to the world's life force vanished, leaving him vulnerable. Panic flickered across his face.
"Have you figured out how you'll die yet?" Rhodes taunted.
The Spear of Destruction, now hundreds of meters long, radiated with immense power. Rhodes poured everything into the weapon, the air around him trembling with its force.
With a thunderous boom, the spear struck, obliterating the mountain and the Night King with it. His final scream echoed, a curse spat at his killer.
"Human! The Netherworld Army will not forgive you!"
"The Netherworld Army?" Rhodes scoffed, dismissing the threat. "Never heard of them. Probably just another annoying force from the Star Realms."
Satisfied, Rhodes summoned a portal and returned to the material world.
The once-unstoppable Eternal Night Legion had begun to dissolve. Millions of undead crumbled, their faces showing relief instead of agony.
"This… this is over?" Atlante murmured, her voice trembling with disbelief.
Rhodes turned to her, his expression as nonchalant as ever.
"Stop gawking and follow me," he said coolly.
Atlante nodded hastily, her awe and fear evident.
As they emerged from the icy abyss, Rhodes glanced back at the frozen wasteland. Though the Night King was gone, the eternal frost remained, an indelible scar on the world.
Back at the palace, Count Ettel stood in silence, visibly aged. Though the plan to free the Night King had been his, guilt weighed heavily on him.
"Count Ettel," Rhodes said, his voice softening. "Do you wish to resurrect the queen?"
The count looked up, his eyes hollow.
"I may have a way," Rhodes offered, a rare kindness in his tone.
The count's breath hitched, hope flickering in his weary gaze.
And with that, the tale of the Eternal Night's end came to a close.
