Chapter 63: The Sun God!

The vast palace stood empty, its silence almost oppressive.

Right in front of the grand entrance stretched a massive staircase, each step climbing layer upon layer until it reached towering heights. At the very top sat an enormous iron throne.

And on that throne, a towering figure emanated an unrestrained, overwhelming aura of power.

The Troll King, an intimidating colossus standing dozens of meters high, muscles hardened like forged steel, his entire form shimmering with a cold, metallic sheen. He leaned forward, chin resting on one massive fist, as he gazed down at the human approaching him. A single eye, set deep in a grotesque face, narrowed slightly with interest.

A hint of amusement glimmered in that dark eye.

"Not bad at all," the Troll King's deep voice echoed through the empty hall. "It's been a long time since I've encountered a human with this kind of strength."

Rhode, however, wasn't in the mood for chit-chat. Without a word, he raised his hand, summoning the Sun's relentless fury.

Boom!

A massive fireball exploded, engulfing the Troll King's body in scorching flames. Rhode's gaze was cold, as if he were staring at a bug he could squash at any moment.

"Trash," he muttered, "who gave you permission to look down on me?"

The palace itself was instantly obliterated, leveled to the ground by the raw power of the Sun.

As the firestorm settled, the Troll King's massive frame re-emerged from the smoking ruins, unharmed. Each heavy step he took shook the earth beneath him, as though the palace itself was quaking in fear.

In one enormous hand, he held a woman, pale and beautiful, imprisoned within an iron cage. She wore a grand palace dress, her eyes haunted. In the other hand, he held a gigantic mace, as if it weighed no more than a twig.

"It's been so long since I've felt pain," he sneered, running his fingers over the burn scars left by the Sun's flame, which were already closing up. "I'd almost forgotten how it feels."

Rhode didn't look surprised that the Troll King had survived. His eyes flicked toward the cage in the King's hand, his brows knitting together.

"This," the Troll King chuckled darkly, "is Ophelia, my third human wife. I especially enjoy her singing. Such sweet songs—full of sorrow and despair."

Noticing Rhode's glance at the woman, the Troll King's cruel grin widened. "As thanks for pleasing me, I let her watch as I devoured her parents before her very eyes."

Rhode couldn't help but shake his head in disgust. "That's just… sick," he muttered. Monsters like these couldn't be understood by human reasoning.

"Why not save those of your kind?" he sneered.

"Save them?" The Troll King burst into deranged laughter, as though Rhode had told a joke. "These lowly worms are hardly my kin."

"I am the Troll King! I carry the ancient blood of my ancestors. The only reason I let these weaklings live is to fuel their worship—my stepping stone to godhood. But now that you've come, that's no longer necessary. I know there's another way out of this place. Show me that path, and I'll grant you a quicker death."

Rhode had already lost his patience. He'd initially thought that the Troll King might be at least half-divine. But it turned out this brute was just barely a saint, not even close to demigod status. Yet he dared to throw his weight around?

Rhode's gaze hardened as he raised his hand. The air thickened with a massive, gathering force.

Sun magic. Mana siphoning. Power surge.

He unleashed it all in a single blow, and the Troll King's expression twisted in terror.

Boom!

When the dust settled, only the Troll King's lower half remained standing. His entire upper body had been vaporized, leaving a blazing, hundred-meter-wide scorch mark that stretched as far as the eye could see, everything in its path reduced to ashes.

Rhode, hands in his pockets, gave a faint smirk. "So, those were your last words, huh? Trash should know its place."

The boy who had followed Rhode could only stare, slack-jawed, at the remnants of the once-feared Troll King. His face was a mixture of awe and terror.

"Do you know where these trolls come from?" Rhode asked, his tone casual.

Trolls didn't just appear out of nowhere. For there to be so many, with even a sanctuary-level king among them, there had to be at least one demigod-level giant nearby.

The boy, bowing his head, murmured, "My lord, I heard they all come from the Sacred Mountain."

Rhode raised an eyebrow. "Sacred Mountain?"

"Yes," the boy replied, eyes wide with awe. "Grandpa said there were no trolls in Sky City before, but now they all come from that mountain. It's guarded heavily by trolls—no one's ever been able to approach it." He pointed to a faint, looming shadow of a mountain shrouded in clouds.

Intrigued, Rhode nodded and headed toward the Sacred Mountain, clearing the trolls as he went.

Half an hour later, Rhode arrived at the mountain's base. He looked up, eyes widening slightly. This "sacred mountain" wasn't a mountain at all—it was the corpse of a giant. It had a humanoid shape, four arms, and its entire body was covered in countless eyeballs, with one massive eye glaring from the center of its face.

The body was as large as a mountain, radiating a mix of death and divine energy.

This Cyclops had once been a demigod—a powerful being from the ancient Titan bloodline. Though it had long since died in battle, its body still teemed with dormant vitality, its essence constantly drawing natural forces into its swollen belly.

Each pulse of its core energy birthed another troll.

"Leaving this thing here would be nothing but trouble."

With that, Rhode summoned a ball of sunfire and hurled it at the corpse. The giant's body went up in flames, reduced to ashes. The remnants of its life essence scattered, creating fertile land and fresh forests.

After dealing with the trolls, Rhode returned to the troll castle and addressed the boy.

"The trolls are gone. You and your people can live here safely now."

The boy's eyes grew panicked. "My lord… are you leaving?"

"Yes." Rhode nodded, making his way toward the massive vine that connected Sky City to the land below.

Once he made sure no one was on it, he set the vine ablaze, reducing it to ashes in seconds. Then he stepped off the edge of the cloud and plunged downward.

The boy stared, awestruck, at the place where Rhode had vanished.

Not long after, other villagers arrived, surrounding the boy.

"Where is the Lord God?" someone asked eagerly.

"He's gone," the boy said, his voice filled with both awe and sadness. "The Lord God has left us."

A sense of loss rippled through the crowd. Finally, the boy clenched his fists, determination blazing in his eyes.

"The gods saved us from the trolls," he declared. "We should honor them. Let's build a statue of the Lord God and worship him across all of Sky City!"

"But… we don't even know the name of the god who saved us," someone muttered.

The boy thought back to the godlike power he'd witnessed, the way the Troll King had been incinerated, like a sun had descended from the heavens.

Without thinking, he blurted, "Sun God!"

"Yes!" The others nodded. "The Lord God is the Sun God! From now on, Sky City will be devoted to the Sun God!"

With that, the whole city began a fervent worship of their new deity, the Sun God, praying for his eventual return.

---

Rhode's body fell in free-fall through the sky, his hair whipping around him as he plunged. After a few minutes, he spotted the ground approaching fast.

A sudden hill shot up from the earth, catching him with a bone-jarring impact.

"Do you always have to make such a dramatic entrance?" Yulia asked, rolling her eyes as she watched him dust himself off, barely fazed by the crater he'd left in the hill.

"Just saving some time," Rhode replied with a shrug, ignoring the townsfolk gaping at him.

He turned, ready to head off with Yulia when he noticed something glinting in the ashes of the vine roots. He reached down and pulled out a pea seed, glowing with an emerald green light.

"Think if I plant this next to the ancient sun tree, it'll grow a vine reaching the sky?" Rhode mused to himself before tucking the seed away.

That evening, as dusk settled in, Rhode arrived in a small town and decided to rest for the night.

He found an inn and booked a spacious room.

Not that he particularly wanted one, but a lot of the townsfolk were corrupted by demonic energy. Exorcising each one individually would take forever; it was easier to cleanse them all in one go.

Next door, Yulia and Britney shared a room. Yulia, listening to the exorcisms echoing from Rhode's room, couldn't help but sigh. This guy… he's just too much.

Britney, lying next to her, was trembling ever so slightly, her ears a bright shade of red.

"Britney, are you awake?"

Yulia whispered, noticing the stillness.

From under the blanket came a faint murmur. "Aren't… aren't you still awake too, Lady Yulia?"

Yulia opened her mouth, but was speechless for a moment. She didn't sleep, but why did she feels guilty?
