Gray had been running almost nonstop since Oshibana, hot on the heels of Erigor as the Dark Mage fled to Clover. He'd managed to catch up after an hour, the pair having traded ranged attacks back and forth throughout the forest as they edged closer and closer to Erigor's target.
"Foolish Legal Scum! You don't stand a chance against me, let alone the Demon Lullaby once it is unleashed!"
"You think I'm gonna give you a chance to release that damn thing," Gray spat back as he cocked back his right arm, a dark-blue Magic Circle manifesting around it. "I'm not letting you kill anyone else! Ice Make – Scattershot Shards!"
Motioning forward with his arm, a series of razor-sharp ice shards were fired in Erigor's direction. The attack sliced through multiple thick trees with ease, prompting Erigor to dash away in order to avoid being sliced apart.
"Fool! You think you can match a master of Wind Magic!?"
"You aren't a master of it, not even an expert," Gray scoffed as he cocked back both arms, ready to fight. "You think that just because you managed to kill a whole heap of civilians with it, you're some kind of big-shot now? Get real!?"
"You'll see soon enough, foolish Legal Scum," Erigor hissed as he brought his scythe out in front of him, twirling it around at a rapid pace. "Wind Magic – Storm Mail!"
Erigor's body became coated in a visible, dark grayish colored tornado that quickly took on a humanoid appearance. From within, Erigor cackled with glee as Gray watched him, wholly unimpressed, yet still on guard.
"You're nothing but a fool! With this form, I'm utterly invincible," Erigor crowed, waving his arms around and ripping apart the forest around them. "Just look at the world is torn asunder by my awesome power!"
"You can destroy a lot of stuff, that's definitely true. But…"
Extending both arms wide before bringing them together in a clap, a large, dark-blue Magic Circle appeared before Gray as he slowly brought his hands to his chest. As he did so, the Magic Circle began to spin in a clockwise motion, multiple large shards of ice slowly emerging from within it as Gray released more of his Magic Power.
"You fool! I'll simply toss this attack aside, just like all the rest!"
"Oh, I'm counting on it," Gray muttered to himself. "Ice Make – Scattershot Cannon!"
Making a forward thrusting motion with his hands, six large, razor-sharp blocks of ice were fired directly at Erigor. The man cackled and waved his right arm, sucking them up into his tornado-like form.
"Ahahahahahaha! How utterly futile!"
"For you."
"What-!?"
Erigor screamed as he suddenly began feeling gashes being ripped open across his body. Dropping his Storm Mail almost immediately, the man had been sliced up badly, blood pouring from multiple wounds as he fell to the ground.
"What…What is this," the Dark Mage snarled. "What did you do!?"
"Simple. You were sucking stuff up into that form of yours, not bothering to filter out sharper objects. So, I decided to fire six large objects that would reach your real body once they got inside that Wind Armor of yours."
"That…That makes no sense!"
"It does, actually. But I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand that," Gray replied as he brought his hands together. "You're done! Ice Make – Geyser!"
Erigor didn't even have the time to yell as his entire body was encased in ice. The look on his face was one of shock fused with rage, as Gray knelt down in front of it.
"Wind plus ice shards equals a hailstorm, dipshit," Gray grinned, only to realize he was alone right now. "Why do I come up with one liners when no one else is around to hear them!?"
Shaking his head, Gray looked back to the frozen form of Erigor, before looking off into the distance where he could see the town of Clover.
"Looks like I've got a long, slow walk ahead of me," the Ice Make Mage sighed as he started pushing the frozen form of Erigor along, his right hand extended outward to create a small path for the block to travel on.
As he began the long trek, he hoped that the others would be alright.
***POTD***
Natsu, Erza and Elise arrived in Clover close to midnight. It was obvious that Gray hadn't arrived yet, nor had Erigor, meaning they had some searching to do.
"Hold on guys," Elise cut in as she grabbed both Natsu and Erza's attention. "Look!"
The two S Class Mages looked in the direction Elise was pointing, noticing a figure approaching, along with an ice block next to them. Natsu couldn't help but grin as he started walking out toward the approaching figure, the girls at his back.
"You guys got here first, huh," Gray sighed, clearly tired. "At least you all would've been here to stop this guy if he got away from me."
"You've only got a couple scratches, yet Erigor looks half dead," Natsu noted as he extended a fist out toward Gray. "Nice job man."
"Thanks," Gray smiled in response, the pair sharing a fist bump. "And, I suppose now that we're all here again … I wanna apologize for how I was back in Oshibana-."
"Gray, don't even bother apologizing," Erza cut in sharply. "Bluenote was someone far beyond even my level, so there's nothing to apologize for."
"Sending you after Erigor was the right call. Also, let's not forget that Erigor was technically a Guild Master as well," Natsu added, Gray seeming to perk up slightly at this.
"That's actually a good point I didn't even think about. I suppose even though I couldn't help in Oshibana, I still helped out a lot, didn't I?"
"Technically, you actually came in clutch for us, since Erigor was the one with the flute. Those Grimoire Heart guys weren't even there to help Eisenwald, they came for me specifically."
"Wait, really?"
"Long story man," Natsu chuckled. "Let's go see gramps and the other Guild Masters and get that damn flute back into containment, eh?"
"After we hand this guy over, can we get something to eat? I'm starving!"
"We're all starving Gray," Erza smirked as she motioned for everyone to follow her lead. "Come on, I know where the meeting hall is. I've been there before."
Everyone followed Erza further into Clover, the group eventually coming across a rather quaint looking place. It was a hotel attached to a restaurant and bar, a modestly sized function room tacked onto the back.
Erza led them straight to the function room and opened the double doors, surprised to only find Makarov inside, alone, and drinking from a mug of mead.
"You brats will be the death of me one of these days," the old man sighed as he looked over at them, his eyes momentarily settling on Elise, before shifting to Erigor's frozen form. "Whose that?"
"Erigor The Reaper, Guild Master of the Dark Guild Eisenwald."
"Eisenwald eh? So, they were the ones attempting to commit the deed against us?"
"Yes Master. Unfortunately, things almost went badly for us," Erza replied as the entire team looked down solemnly, save for Natsu who met Makarov's gaze.
"Oshibana has been completely destroyed. We managed to save around fifty of the residents, and they're just the ones that Eisenwald left for last before we arrived."
"Around fifty? Oshibana was a town of over five thousand," Makarov whispered.
"It gets worse."
"Continue," Makarov sighed, placing his drink aside, no longer in the mood for it.
"As we were dealing with Eisenwald, three members of Grimoire Heart showed up," Natsu continued as the old man's eyes widened. "Zancrow, Azuma and Grand Wizard Bluenote Stinger. They came, not to aid Eisenwald, but to capture me."
"No doubt in retaliation for the Valtheim incident, right?"
"Correct. Erza and Elise managed to beat back Azuma and Zancrow, but I could only match Bluenote, as I needed to conserve power in case Lullaby was deployed here."
"I see. And, you at least managed to draw with him?"
"In a way. He left of his own accord, citing that he had a primary mission that took precedence over my capture."
"Natsu had Gray take on Erigor in order to secure the flute," Erza chimed in as Makarov's eyes widened slightly, moving toward Gray.
"You defeated him? Alone?"
"Yeah, I did. I knew the others were gonna be tied up and I wasn't about to let this asshole release a Demon on Clover so, I did what I had to do."
"I must say Gray … I'm impressed. You've shown some real mettle tonight, facing down a Dark Guild Master, and walking away with only a few scratches."
"Thanks gramps…"
"And, as for you three," Makarov continued, his gaze settling on Elise. "You and I will need to have a private conversation later, Elise Faulkner. Nothing bad, I assure you, just one I have with all new Guild Members."
"I understand, Master Makarov," Elise replied formally. "Just name the time and place."
"No need for the formalities," the old man chuckled. "You've all been through a rough time today. No need to have an old fart like me making things worse, is there!?"
"Judging by how quiet it is here, I'm guessing you've gotten Clover evacuated?"
"Right you are Natsu. I showed Mirajane's letter to my fellow Guild Masters, and we all spurred into action, evacuating the entirety of Clover. I, as a Wizard Saint, remained behind to confront whoever showed up with the flute."
"That was definitely a good call, especially considering what Eisenwald did to the train and Oshibana," Natsu nodded grimly. "And … what Lullaby will likely do to this place now."
"What do you mean by that Natsu," Erza asked, clearly confused by his wording. "Lullaby is secure within the ice, along with Erigor?"
"No," Makarov muttered, his eyes widening ever so slightly as he concentrated. "Natsu's correct in what he said…I can feel it as well."
"Feel what? The Demon?"
The sound of cracking echoed throughout the silent hall, all eyes turning toward the frozen form of Erigor. Everyone watched with varying degrees of shock, as black smoke began escaping through the cracks, floating up toward the roof where it began pooling in a thick cloud.
"We need to get outside…NOW!"
No one needed to be told twice, as the group fled the building right as the area started to shake violently. Running out onto the street, they turned and watched as the smoke burst through every available gap, absorbing the building into itself before beginning to solidify.
A ground shaking roar was audible as the group fell back even further, the black mist forming into a black, wood-like entity with glowing red eyes. The entity stood at sixty feet tall and was around twenty feet in width, with its entire body comprised of black wood.
"Though I am not yet at my full power … I refuse to allow my return to be sullied by the hands of mortals," the massive Demon roared, its voice shaking the area as all plant life in the area died upon coming into contact with the shockwaves from its voice. "After four hundred years of slumber, it is time for the mortal world to partake of my Melody Of Death!"

The Maestro Of Death

Lullaby
"A real-life Demon made by Zeref," Erza muttered softly. "Even when not at full power …"
"Its intimidating as hell," Elise finished for her as the two Mages looked toward one another for a moment, nodding stiffly in agreement.
"Its been a long time since I've seen one of your kind," Natsu suddenly called out toward the Demon, drawing its attention toward them, and shocking the others. "Your given name is actually Lullaby, correct?"
"A Human dares address me, one of Lord Zeref's finest creations," Lullaby hissed before suddenly pausing and lowering himself down slightly. "Wait… I smell something about you? Another of my kind's blood stains your mortal fingers, does it not?"
"I have, several years ago," Natsu replied, surprising Gray, Erza and Elise, as Makarov merely chose to pay attention, having heard about it already from Gildarts. "The Silence Demon, Skkard."
"Yes… I see, that is the smell I get from your pitiful Human form," Lullaby replied as it rose back up to its full height. "Though you shall still die by my hand … I respect that you managed to kill one of my kind. My Melodies are far different from that of Skkard's, as you shall soon learn…"
"I'm not gonna lose to you, Lullaby, nor any other Demon Of Zeref," Natsu replied firmly as the Demon snorted in response.
"Let's see you try then, Human," the Demon replied as it began releasing its monstrous power.
"Gramps… could you have everyone pull back for a bit?"
"So, you're planning on using THAT to combat this Demon," Makarov muttered, nodding slightly in response. "All of you, do as Natsu says."
"Master, you can't seriously be telling us to let Natsu face this Demon alone," Erza cried out in protest only for the old man to raise a hand to silence her.
"A temporary retreat," the aged Guild Master said firmly as he looked toward Natsu once again.
"Go ahead Natsu, we'll be out of your hair for the time being."
"Thanks," came his curt response as an enormous amount of Magical Power exploded from his form, quite literally sending all of them skidding backward.
"We have to move," Makarov barked as he motioned for them all to run. "NOW!"
Everyone fell back as a pillar of fire exploded around Natsu's form. Lullaby watched on, intrigued with what Natsu was doing, yet not concerned in the slightest.
"Ahh … I see now, very interesting. The power of the Dragon Slayers of old has survived to the modern day it seems?"
"If you know what I'm doing, then you'd best be prepared Demon," Natsu huffed as his skin started to visibly crack. "I didn't think I'd run into another of your kind, nor did I think I'd run into two monstrous opponents on the same day…"
As Natsu's skin visibly began to crack, the rest of the team and Makarov managed to retreat up onto a nearby ridge that overlooked Clover. From their vantage point, they were stunned into silence at what Natsu was doing.
"Show me the power that defeated Skkard, Dragon Slayer!"
"With pleasure," Natsu snarled as loud crunching sounds echoed around him, the cracks in his skin hardening into reddish colored scales. "This is it, Demon. I'll rend you to ashes… Flame Drive."
Standing at his full height, fire surged around his form. His hair had flicked upright, reddish-colored scales having formed across his face, arms, legs, and torso. His teeth had become pointed, his facial features more angular and his fingers slightly more elongated with the nails longer and sharper than that of a Human.
"Holy shit," Elise blurted out, the first to break the silence. "I've never seen anything quite like that before …"
"His power alone is … insane," Gray muttered in agreement. "I can't stop shaking…"
"To think, Natsu has had this up his sleeve the entire time and said nothing of it," Erza muttered as she looked toward Makarov. "Did you know about this?"
"Of course I knew," the old man replied plainly. "Gildarts and Natsu informed me of their growth, this being one of the key topics we discussed. After all, it is what affords Natsu the title of Grand Wizard, which I'm sure doesn't need to be discussed?"
The trio nodded, all knowing what the title of Grand Wizard meant. It was obvious as they watched the town begin to melt, along with much of the forest surrounding it. He'd mastered the element of Fire to such a degree that few could even hope to match it.
He was in a league of his own compared to the three of them.
"I don't think I could back him up even if I wanted to," Gray muttered as he held out his hands, sweating profusely. "I literally can't even conjure any Ice…"
"Only a Mage on his level could use Ice against him Gray, so don't feel discouraged," Erza replied as she turned to face the Ice Make Mage. "Look at this as an opportunity to see where you need to grow?"
"I couldn't have said it better myself Erza," Makarov nodded as they turned their attention back to the battle below.
Natsu didn't so much as flinch as the Demon roared with laughter, a hollow tune echoing around him as Death Magic washed over the melting town of Clover.
"Mortal arrogance never ceases to amuse me! Tell me, how long were you saving that one-liner about rending me to ashes!?"
"If you really want to know, I said it on the fly. I've been told I have a talent for talking shit during a battle … I should probably inform you, however, that it was no mere jest."
Lullaby's laughter ceased as the tree-like Demon lowered itself down to glare upon Natsu's form. The hollow tune morphing into a haunting melody as its visage became much more grotesque.
"What did you say, insignificant gnat?"
"Didn't you understand what I meant? I suppose I can sum it up for you in a way that even a thick-headed tree like you will understand," Natsu sighed before looking up at the Demon with a hollow stare. "I'm going to kill you."
"You dare … YOU DARE TO ASSUME YOURSELF EQUAL TO ME!? ME, THE GREAT DEMON LULLABY!?"
"I don't need to assume," Natsu sniffed. "I know so. Because, despite your boasting, you aren't at full power yet, putting you around Skkard's level. It doesn't take a mathematician to realize that if you are equal, and I'm stronger since I killed Skkard …"
"You will PAY FOR YOUR ARROGANCE," Lullaby roared as the haunting melody became an ear-piercing crescendo of Death Magic.
Natsu immediately rushed the Demon, his right hand igniting with crimson flame as the massive Demon cocked its fist back.
"Nothing will save you from my song, Dragon Slayer! Prepare for the sweet Lullaby Of Death, the final symphony!"
A loud horn-like noise boomed across the area as dozens of black pillars erupted around Lullaby's position, the tree-like Demon throwing a punch at Natsu whilst roaring wildly. Natsu leapt backward in order to avoid the attack, easily evading the massive, lumbering Demon.
"Not so fast, Dragon Slayer!"
The moment Lullaby's fist made contact with the ground, Natsu rapidly began performing a series of back flips as thorny wooden branches burst forth from the earth, attempting to impale him. From the branches, thorny vines shot out, twisting and twirling toward him as Natsu rapidly began slashing at them with his fingers.
"Futile resistance," the Demon roared as it attempted to ensnare Natsu. "You cannot run forever!"
With its free hand, Lullaby raised its palm upward as the pillars of black spun up into vicious tornadoes, each bearing the sound of a musical instrument. Alone, they sounded dreadful, off tune. But together, they formed a chilling melody.
"Etherious Aura: Symphony Magic – Reverse Waltz, D Minor!"
The pillars all bent into Lullaby's palm, forming a condensed, nearly invisible sound wave that was promptly fired in Natsu's direction. The attack, upon its initial deployment, sounded like a hundred tubas all being played simultaneously through loudspeakers.
The ground around Natsu's position was instantly shattered apart, despite the attack still visibly traveling toward him. Gritting his teeth, he crossed his index and middle finger on his left hand and aimed them at the incoming attack.
"Crash Arts: Crash Incision!"
Firing the condensed blast of raw Crash Magic with his left hand, he began charging up another attack with his right, a small swirling flame sparking in the palm of his hand.
The Crash Magic struck Lullaby's, punching right through the center which caused it to split off four ways, missing Natsu as they impacted the surrounding area, setting off sizeable explosions.
"Crash Magic as well-!?"
"Let's see how you handle this," Natsu snarled as he continued dodging the various vines that were still chasing him, the small flame in his right hand rapidly increasing in size until it exceeded his own. "Fire Dragon King's Seismic Searing Cyclone!"
Throwing the attack at Lullaby, the Demon roared as it made impact. The cyclone further increased in size upon contact, quickly engulfing the Demon as it roared in pain.
"THIS IS NOTHING," Lullaby roared as it started charging his position whilst firing dozens of loud, ear drum bursting, shock waves in his direction.
Coating his right hand in crimson flame, Natsu suddenly spun around and started rushing Lullaby. The vines attempted to impede his progress, but were set alight before making contact with his body.
Extending his arm far out to the right, he brought his four elongated, claw-like fingers together and folded his thumb into his palm. Lullaby immediately felt a shift in his power and moved to strike, cocking back its massive, tree-like fist and moving to match his attack with one of its own.
"Defeating one Demon has made you arrogant, Dragon Slayer," Lullaby roared as Natsu felt the shock wave from Lullaby's attack bearing down upon him. "You are no match for me, a Demon bound to Lord Zeref!"
The flame around Natsu's hand had seemingly solidified. His elongated, claw-like fingers, combined with the solidified flame, now looked like a flaming spear. Crash Magic sparked around it, his hand quivering slightly.
"Etherious Aura: Symphony Magic – Dark Crescendo!"
"Dragon Slayer's Secret Art: Fire Dragon King's Piercing Claw!"
Cocking the spear-like attack back as he launched himself at Lullaby, Natsu funneled more power into his attack before thrusting forward. The two attacks clashed, with Natsu's immediately punching through, slicing clean up Lullaby's arm, splitting it clean in half as the Demon roared in agony.
"IMPOSSIBLE-!?"
Coming out the other end, Natsu grit his teeth as Lullaby's entire right arm was sliced clean off as the Crash Magic ripped apart the loose appendage. Spinning around, Natsu was about to follow up when he suddenly felt a sharp stabbing pain in his gut.
Clutching his stomach, he crashed into some nearby buildings, inwardly cursing his bad luck.
'Damn… Looks like I used up more Magic against Bluenote than I thought? Not only that, the internal damage Bluenote's punches did are coming back to bite me in the ass…'
Rising back to his feet, he could feel his Magical Power slowly beginning to drop. He knew he had to end this quickly. Taking one step, he was suddenly smashed into the ground by Lullaby's other fist, a powerful shock wave ripping the entire area apart.
"Etherious Aura: Symphony Magic – Salacious Decrescendo!"
Lullaby smirked as it pressed its fist further into the earth, having felt the slight drop in Natsu's Magical Power. The smirk was short lived however as it began to feel the resistance against its attack.
Slowly, Lullaby's fist rose back out as Natsu lifted it up. His clothes were in tatters, his muscles fully flexed as he grit his teeth. It was obvious that he was just barely capable of resisting the Demon. Something that brought the smirk back to its face.
"You may have taken my right arm, but it can be easily replaced once you lie dead at my feet!"
"Don't … care … Didn't … ask," Natsu huffed through grit teeth. "I swear … that old cunt better … hurry up!"
"None of the pathetic Mortals up on the ridge will be able to save you, Dragon Slayer! This is the end for you-!"
Lullaby froze, a sudden and new energy signature flaring to life directly behind it. Slowly arching its head, its eyes widened in shock.
"I'll ignore the insult to my age, for now, since clearly you got yourself into a real doozy."
"WHO-!?"
Lullaby didn't even get a chance to finish, the figure vanishing and reappearing twenty feet in the air with their fist fully cocked back, orange sparks tearing the landscape apart. The look on their face completely shifted, and Lullaby knew it was over.
"Crash Arts Secret Technique: Spreading The Truth – Empyrean!"
"NOOOOO-!"
Lullaby's roars fell on deaf ears as the figure threw the punch directly at the Demon's chest. The moment it made impact, the Demon's entire midsection lurched back violently, before its entire body seemed to be sliced up.
With one last, ear-piercing shriek, the Demon Lullaby exploded. Massive chunks of its charred, wooden body, were blasted across what was once Clover, as the figure landed before Natsu who was panting slightly from fatigue.
"About damn time…"
"I'm surprised you struggled with that one?"
"Fought a Grand Wizard a few hours back," came the tired reply. "Cut me some slack … Gildarts …"
Gildarts shook his head as Natsu reverted back to his base form, slowly falling into the older man's embrace. Now it made sense why Natsu had needed assistance to finish off Lullaby, since battling a Grand Wizard prior to a Demon would wipe out most people.
"You rest up for now, tell me the rest later."
"Yeah," Natsu sighed, his eyes slowly closing as he fell unconscious.
Hoisting Natsu over his shoulder, Gildarts began the trek up toward the ridge where he could sense Makarov, Elise, Gray and Erza.
"Back a week and already you've fought a Grand Wizard and a Demon Of Zeref," the older man chuckled to himself. "Life is never boring with you around, Natsu."
***POTD***
After ten minutes of walking, Gildarts finally made his way up a path he'd cut into the ridge-line, not wanting to have to walk all the way around. Upon reaching the top of the path, Makarov and the others hurried toward their position.
"Gildarts," Makarov called out sharply. "Is he alright?"
"Yeah. He's just low on Magic and has some internal injuries," Gildarts replied easily as he set Natsu down gently. "Can someone fill me in on this Grand Wizard he fought before this?"
"It was this guy, Bluenote," Elise answered as Gildarts turned his attention fully toward her, eyes widening slightly.
"Bluenote? As in Bluenote Stinger?"
"Yeah, that's him," Elise nodded quickly. "Wore a weird battle robe and had this weird ability that let him affect Gravity."
"You know this man, Gildarts?"
"Makarov, you should know him," Gildarts sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. "That guy is the number two in Grimoire Heart, but before that he was a freelancer who crushed other Grand Wizards for their Magic."
"Really? I've not heard of him before…?"
"Guess that goes to show you where the Council place their priorities, huh," Gray snorted, eliciting an amused giggle from Elise.
"Regardless, Natsu's current condition makes a whole lot more sense now that I know he fought Bluenote. His internals were probably shaken up pretty bad from any blows that Dark Mage tagged him with. Not to mention how much Magic Natsu likely expelled just to face him head on."
"He just needs to rest for now though, right," Erza asked as she crouched down next to him. "He's going to be fine, right?"
"Once he's back on his feet, he'll be better than fine," the older man snorted. "Remember, Dragon Slayers grow stronger through battle. He should grow stronger from the events of the last day, for damn sure."
"That's a relief," Elise sighed. "So, what now? We beat Eisenwald, destroyed Lullaby and saved the Guild Masters…"
"At the cost of Clover and Oshibana," Makarov replied grimly. "I dare say the Council will not be pleased."
"Seriously? We fought our asses off to put a stop to Lullaby and Eisenwald," Gray huffed. "No way they're gonna start shit with us after we did so much good!?"
"Hah! You're dreaming Gray," Elise scoffed. "Gran Doma will take any opportunity to mess with Fairy Tail."
"Elise is right. If it weren't for Natsu, our last meeting with the Council could have gone quite differently," Erza agreed. "I think it would be in all our best interests to return to the Guild Hall for now."
"Agreed. If the Magic Council do come knocking, let us not give them a reason to assume we are guilty," Makarov agreed. "Gildarts?"
"Yeah, I'll carry him until he can walk himself," the Crash Mage nodded as he picked up Natsu once again. "We'll probably have to camp out somewhere tonight since you three have pushed yourselves as well."
"Sounds like a plan," Makarov nodded as they all began the long trek back home. "On the way back, you all can fill me in on what's happened whilst I've been away…"

Meanwhile, in Era, Councilman Siegrain sat back in his seat, pondering what he'd just seen. A Demon Of Zeref had just fallen, and another plan of the Bharam Alliance had been thwarted by the same group of Mages.
"I must say, I'm surprised Natsu was able to stand against Lullaby after facing off against Bluenote Stinger," a feminine voice purred from across his desk. "But I suppose that is how battles between Grand Wizards go, isn't it?"
"Indeed. Battles between opponents of such a caliber rarely possess a decisive outcome," Siegrain replied, eyes alight in amusement. "I must say though, Dragneel has surprised me…"
"How so?"
"Come now, surely you jest? Do you not see what sets him apart from the others in the Fairy Tail Guild?"
"There are many things I could list that set him apart," the woman mused. "Enlighten me?"
"His willingness to kill, to destroy," the Wizard Saint whispered. "It is obvious that, wherever he went with Gildarts Clive, he was blooded. He's not like the others in his Guild. Dragneel will kill his enemies, destroy whatever he needs to, in order to do what he needs to do."
"I see…"
"This gives me some ideas," Siegrain hummed as he tapped his fingers against his desk. "I may need you to take on a more 'hands on' approach, though?"
"Whatever you need me to do, I shall make sure it is accomplished without fail!"
"It involves your project on Galuna Island…"
"Ah yes, that project," the woman hummed in response. "As we speak, that fool Lyon and his idiotic friends are resurrecting the Demon. Runoff collection has been secretly proceeding as planned."
"Excellent. What are your estimates for the final phase of the project?"
"Three days until the Demon thaws."
"I'm liking the sound of that. In fact, it lines up perfectly with this incident, doesn't it?"
"Indeed it does, Lord Siegrain. Do you wish to push a proposal to that fool, Doma?"
"I do," Siegrain smirked in reply. "Yes, I think that will work nicely…"
"I'll have it submitted tonight so that the rest of the Council will be forced to act immediately."
"Good," Siegrain muttered as he stared into the woman's crystal ball, eyes locked onto the currently sleeping form of Natsu. "Yes … I think this plan will work wonders for us."
***POTD***
The Fairy Tail Mages arrived back in Magnolia around midday, having pushed ahead once Natsu awoke.
To the surprise of Erza, Elise and Gray, it was as if Natsu hadn't been injured or exhausted at all. He was back to his regular self, easily keeping pace with Gildarts and Makarov. All things considered; the group were in high spirits.
That was, until they reached the Guild Hall itself.
Upon their arrival at the entrance, they could see Mira speaking with some Rune Knights at the bar. She didn't look too happy about it either, almost uncomfortable, as they seemingly flirted with her.
Before Erza or Elise could even say anything, Natsu was over there. Mira seemed surprised to see him as he clapped his hands loudly, drawing the attention of the Rune Knights who nearly leapt from their seats.
"Gentlemen! Is there some sort of problem here," Natsu asked in a tone that brooked no nonsense, a hollow smile on his face as he slid around the bar, wrapping an arm around Mira's waist. "I'm afraid that our lovely Mirajane is needed elsewhere, so you'll have to settle for dealing with me."
"You're back," Mira whispered, silently mouthing a 'Thank You' out of view of the Rune Knights. "How was your trip?"
"Eventful, as I'm sure you've figured out," came the guarded response as the rest of his group approached, noticing the Rune Knights were rather pissed off at his actions with Mira.
"And just who the hell are you supposed to be," one Rune Knight sneered. "We were just having a great chat with Mirajane Strauss before you barged on in!"
"Yeah! We could have you in the cells for that!"
"Is that so," Natsu asked as he held Mira closer to him, eliciting an eye roll from Elise and Erza, both knowing he was going to goad them into doing something stupid. "Well, I'm afraid that Mirajane here is one of my closest and dearest friends. And, I might add, she is required elsewhere. So, like I said earlier, you'll be dealing with me."
Mira smirked, catching onto his game, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. It was a move that really pissed off the Rune Knights, one of them gripping their Magical Staff as if they were about to attack.
"Talk to you later," Natsu smirked as he gave her a light smack on the rear, in a move that had even Makarov openly gaping at his brazenness toward Mira.
Mira, for her part, played along expertly, poking her tongue back at him and making her way upstairs, a slight sashay in her hips which had one of the Rune Knight reach out and grab Natsu by the collar.
Everyone in the Guild Hall tensed, save for Natsu, who merely smiled coldly down at the much shorter man. Within a few moments, the man released his grip and took a step backward.
"That's what I thought. Now then, about why you've come…?"
"I would think it obvious why we have come here today, wouldn't you agree?"
All eyes turned toward the door as another Rune Knight stood there. Unlike the Rune Knights however, this man didn't possess any kind of Magical Weapon. He strolled inside, his posture rigid and without flaw, pausing as he noticed Elise standing next to Erza.
"Former Captain Faulkner? I must say, I'm not entirely surprised to see you ended up in Fairy Tail of all places…"
"Had to go somewhere, didn't I," Elise sniffed in response, her eyes narrowed. "Can't say I'm surprised they sent you here, if I'm being honest. Though, I am surprised by the sheer lack of discipline from the forces under your command."
The man didn't so much as twitch at her rather frosty response, merely adjusting his glasses with his index finger.
"On behalf of the Fourth Custody Enforcement Unit, I take full responsibility for the deplorable actions of these two. Sexual harassment is not something I tolerate within my command, and I shall ensure they are punished.
Representative Of The Council
A Captain Of The Rune Knights
Head Of The Fourth Custody Enforcement Unit
Lahar
"C-Captain," one of the men stuttered out, only for Lahar's cold gaze to bore into him.
"I don't want to hear another word out of either of you. We came here with one task and the hope that it wouldn't result in a fight. Your actions have brought shame upon the Fourth Unit, and upon me."
"Relax," Natsu cut in as Lahar's gaze slowly moved upward to the Dragon Slayer. "For the sake of maintaining peace, let's not dress down your subordinates here. I think they've been embarrassed enough."
"Is that acceptable to you, Saint Makarov," Lahar asked, not having taken his eyes off of Natsu. "Is Fairy Tail willing to overlook this?"
"Let's not beat around the bush Lahar, since I know you on a professional level," the aged Guild Master sighed. "I know this isn't the norm from your Unit, which means these two are likely new, right?"
"Correct."
"Then don't worry about it," Makarov huffed. "Besides, there are far more pressing concerns to deal with, aren't there?"
"Indeed, there are," the Captain replied as he stepped up to Natsu's position at the bar. "For the record, you are the Mage known as Natsu Dragneel?"
"I am."
"Judging by your rather relaxed demeanor, you know why we have come here today?"
"I do."
"Very well then," Lahar nodded. "Natsu Dragneel. By the authority of the Magic Council, governing body of all things Arcane, I'm placing you under arrest for the following crimes!"
The Guild was so silent you could hear a pin drop as Lahar unfurled a scroll and began to read.
"The complete annihilation of Oshibana Town and its surrounding area. The complete destruction of the town of Clover and its surrounding area. The destruction of a train belonging to the Fiore Rail Alliance. Illegally instigating conflict with the Dark Guild Grimoire Heart, one of the leaders of the Bharam Alliance, without approval from the Magic Council. Failure to report signs of Dark Guild activity. And finally, failure to report and, subsequently, hand over an artifact related to the Black Wizard Zeref."
"I'm guessing you want me to go to Era and face the Council," Natsu asked plainly, many of the Guild openly gaping in shock at some of the charges being pressed against him.
"That's correct. Will you come quietly?"
"I suppose so," Natsu smirked as he stepped out from behind the counter as one of the Rune Knights next to Lahar went to place a Magical Suppression Collar around his neck.
"Stop," Lahar said quickly, the Rune Knight freezing at the Captain's raised hand. "That won't work on him."
"At least someone did their homework," Natsu sniffed as everyone was floored by that revelation. "I'll come quietly, on one condition…"
"And what would this condition be?"
"I want Erza to come with me," Natsu grinned as the Requip Mage blinked owlishly in surprise, having not expected him to request her presence.
"I suppose that's agreeable. She will not be allowed to speak in the hearing though, you understand?"
"Of course. She's there purely for moral support!"
To Lahar's credit, he remained completely impassive, even as everyone around them looked at Natsu like he was crazy. After all, he was making a joke out of being arrested.
"Very well then, we should get moving," Lahar muttered as he turned to leave, halting once more before Elise. "It was … good … to see you again, Former Captain Faulkner."
Elise nodded stiffly, the impassive man actually showing the briefest flicker of emotion before turning on his heel and motioning for Natsu and Erza to follow him. The pair departed, leaving the Guild Hall in stunned silence.
"That boy is going to be the death of me," Makarov muttered as Gildarts ran a hand through his hair.
"Guess I'll be sticking around for a good while since he can't go a week without pissing off the Council. For now, though, I think all of us have earned some rest and relaxation."
"Agreed. However, Elise, I'd like to speak with you privately later this afternoon in my office," Makarov replied. "You aren't in trouble, just some formalities to go through."
"Okay Master. I'll just hang around here until you're ready to see me," Elise replied. "I still haven't had a chance to get to know everyone yet, so it's as good of an opportunity as any."
"That's a good idea," Makarov smiled back, clearly pleased that she wanted to get to know everyone better. "I'll send Mira to fetch you when I'm ready."
Makarov left with Gildarts, leaving the rest of the Guild to slowly disperse. As they did, Elise and Gray turned to face the door, both looking rather grim.
"I hope Natsu doesn't get thrown in jail…"
"They don't really have a case against him Gray. Trust me, I was a Captain just like Lahar was, and I could tell even he knows this is all bullshit."
"Really?"
"Yeah. The Council likes to abuse its power, but not even they are ballsy enough to mess with someone with as many connections as Natsu has."
"Well, I hope you're right," Gray sighed. "Anyway, you said you didn't know everyone around here too well yet?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I can introduce you to everyone if you'd like?"
"Thanks Gray," Elise replied sincerely. "You're a pretty cool guy!"
"That was a pretty shit joke," Gray chuckled. "Cana used to say that one all the time when we were kids."
"Sounds like I have a lot of jokes I need to learn about," Elise grinned as the Ice Make Mage motioned for her to follow him to the nearest table, shaking his head in amusement.
***POTD***
The trip to Era was mostly uneventful, save for the fact that Natsu and Erza had to ride in a cart designed to transport prisoners once they reached Era's Station. It was somewhat cramped, but at least they had some privacy.
"So Natsu?"
"Hmm?"
"Can I … Can I ask you something?"
"Shoot."
"Back at the Guild Hall, when you stepped in to stop those Rune Knights from hitting on Mira…"
"Yeah," Natsu asked, cocking his head to the side curiously, noticing a faint tinge of pink dusting Erza's cheeks. "What about it?"
"Well, I'm just wondering about the way you two played off one another," the Requip Mage continued slowly. "She kissed you on the cheek and you … uh …"
"Gave her a light smack on the ass?"
"Y-Yeah…"
"Let me guess," Natsu chuckled as he leant back in his seat. "You want to know if there's anything going on between Mira and I?"
"W-Well, I didn't want to pry," Erza stuttered out as Natsu grinned at her rather adorable, flustered state.
"I can't speak for Mira, but I did what I did in order to both piss off those Rune Knights, as well as imply that there was something, just so they'd leave her alone."
"Oh," Erza muttered awkwardly. "So, you don't feel anything for her?"
"I won't lie and try to tell you I don't find her attractive," Natsu replied easily. "And, I do care for her, probably more than I care for some others in the Guild."
Erza seemed surprised at that revelation. Internally, she felt something rather strange form at the pit of her stomach, but she remained attentive as Natsu continued.
"I wouldn't say its anything like me wanting to start a relationship with her, but there's definitely a love there. I look at her and I … I care, if that makes sense?"
Just like that, the strange feeling in her gut vanished. Hearing Natsu voice how he felt about Mira seemed to settle her nerves somewhat, morphing her nervousness into intrigue.
"Maybe there's a reason you feel for her in a much stronger way than others in the Guild? Perhaps its…"
"Lisanna?"
"Yeah," Erza whispered in reply, surprised at how casually he responded with the name of the deceased Strauss sibling. "Maybe you feel obligated to her in some way, because of Lisanna?"
"Mira and I will need to sit down and properly discuss that topic at some point. We've talked briefly about how she changed, both in appearance and personality, but neither of us could actually talk about Lisanna herself."
"I think it's a conversation that's inevitable," Erza sighed as she took his hand with her own. "Mira actually blamed herself for a time when you left because she knew how much you cared for Lisanna. Ironically though, that's how Mira and I became best friends, instead of constantly bickering rivals."
"Really? I chalked it up to the both of you getting older?"
"Growing up probably played a small role, but it was us sharing each other's trauma that brought us closer together," Erza smiled wistfully as she recalled the memory. "We shared a side of each other that no one else has seen, and it brought us closer together."
"I'm glad," Natsu smiled as he gently squeezed Erza's hand. "We all hated how the two of you would fight all the time. Macao used to say that it was just the two of you being hormonal teenage girls, but the two of you used to really hurt each other."
"We were really stupid back then," she sighed in response. "Regardless, we're really close now. I think that the two of you should find the time to speak in private, and just air everything out. It worked for Mira and I, and I know it'll work for the two of you."
"Once all this is dealt with, I might see if she's free. I don't want to push her into the conversation though, that's all."
"Maybe make a day of it? I could show Elise the ropes when it comes to going on jobs since no one has actually shown her that side of being in a Guild yet."
"Sounds like a plan," Natsu chuckled lightly. "Thanks Erza."
"For what?"
"For talking about all this with me. I might be much stronger, smarter and roguishly handsome," he grinned, eliciting a small smirk from the Requip Mage. "But when it comes to stuff like this, I'm still not the best at it."
"You mean emotional stuff?"
"Yeah."
"I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit Natsu," Erza replied as she released his hand, poking him in the chest. "You're far more mature than most men your age, which is why I asked about why you were so forward with Mira. Having seen the way you've behaved since you've been back, I genuinely didn't expect that from you."
"Well, in my defense, I'm supposed to be setting an example as an S Class Mage," Natsu replied, eyes twinkling in amusement. "But honestly, you can thank my time under Queen Illyandra for making me seem … older, as you so eloquently put it. Spending as much time around a Monarch and her Nobles, I kind of had to smarten up. Ultimately, it shaped how I am now."
"You know, I'm going to want to hear more about your time in Scarlione. You can't keep dropping me nuggets of information, only to then veer away from it…"
"But Erza, I can't just go telling you everything," Natsu replied with a mock gasp. "If I did, I'd lose that air of mystery about me, and then how will I draw all the ladies in!?"
Erza snorted at that, playfully leaning forward and shoving him slightly in response.
"The charm of that stops working on a girl pretty fast if you keep holding out on them," the scarlet-haired Mage smirked. "But, keep your secrets for now, for they shall be mine soon enough."
"As you command, my lady," Natsu smirked as he performed the best mock bow he could in the cramped wagon, the pair devolving into laughter moments later.
Once their fits of laughter died down, Natsu resumed his seat as they felt the carriage going over some notable bumps.
"That's strange…"
"Era's streets didn't have any noticeable bumps in the road the last time we came here, did it?"
"No," Natsu replied, shaking his head as he sniffed the air. "Something seems… off."
Feeling the carriage come to a stop, the pair could hear the Rune Knights come and begin unlocking the steel doors that locked them in. Once they swung open and the duo stepped out into the sunlight, they froze.
"What," Erza gasped as Natsu continued to sniff the air. "What happened here!?"
"I daresay the answer is obvious, Erza Scarlett," Lahar muttered as he motioned out to Era itself.
"It was those three from Grimoire Heart," Natsu muttered, shocking Erza as she looked out upon the once great city of Era.
The entire city had been almost completely destroyed. Where once there had been a sea of tightly knit buildings, a sprawling and lively population, and a cheery atmosphere … now lay naught but ruin.
Turning toward the Magic Council's Main Headquarters, Natsu was shocked to see even that hadn't been spared. The floating section was undamaged, but the part located on ground level had been gutted severely.
Large gaps had been torn into it, the left wing had suffered fire damage, and the right was completely infested with vines. The main gate had been blasted clean off its hinges, one embedded into the building itself, and the other had half melted.
But it was the sea of body bags that ultimately had Natsu's attention. Hundreds of people had been killed by the rampage of three Dark Mages. Council forces scurried about, moving the dead onto carts and hauling them away, whilst others treated wounded in a relief area nearby.
"I can see now why the Council would want me to come in regarding Grimoire Heart," Natsu muttered, surprising Lahar for a brief moment, before the Captain composed himself.
"I cannot speak of the attack itself, as the Council wishes to do so personally," the Captain began. "However, in my personal opinion, you are not responsible for this tragedy."
"I take it that among the Rune Knights, this isn't the popular opinion?"
"Among the lower ranks, it most certainly isn't."
"Fair enough then," Natsu replied as he surveyed the damage. "We should get this trial with the Council over and done with."
"It will take time to prepare the trial, as half of the Council is currently in Crocus, and will need to be informed of your arrival."
"Fair enough. I assume there is somewhere you'd want me to wait?"
"Follow me," Lahar nodded as they made their way into the damaged building ahead. "Since the cells have been completely destroyed, you'll simply have to wait in the lobby."
Natsu and Erza shared a look at that, but said nothing as they were led into the Council Building. Inwardly, Natsu pondered the motive for the actions of Bluenote and the two members of the Seven Kin, knowing full well the Council would ask his opinion on it once he stood trial.
***POTD***
"-and then I asked him about why he was trying to smuggle an entire cart of cabbages into Crocus when he could have just paid the small fee," Elise explained as Gray, Cana, Levy and Mira sat around the bar, listening to her tale.
"Is that normal? People smuggling produce, I mean," Levy asked curiously. "I feel like it wouldn't be, right?"
"You'd be surprised Levy. Nine out of ten criminals the Council deals with are actually just people trying to avoid paying tolls or business fees, like the cabbage guy."
"But why didn't he want to pay the few hundred Jewel fee," Mira asked, clearly confused. "Its basically nothing compared to what he'd make back?"
"See, that's the best part of this whole thing," Elise smirked as she picked up the cabbage that Mira had placed on the bar for her. "See the size of this thing?"
"What about it," Gray asked, clearly not sure where she was going with this.
"You guys look at this and see a regular old cabbage, right? Well …"
Placing her hand over the top of the cabbage, everyone was shocked to see Elise's hand slip into it, as if the top of the cabbage had some kind of hole in it.
"The hell!?"
"How did you do that," Levy gasped as everyone crowded around Elise, watching as her entire arm sank into the cabbage. "Is that some kind of Magic!?"
"Did you guys know, that there is actually a dark side to the farming industry where farmers use this to smuggle contraband into major cities in order to turn a massive profit? Just check this out."
Everyone stepped back as Elise pulled a sword out of the cabbage, causing Cana to blink as if she were seeing things, Levy's jaw dropped, Gray scratched his head and Mira seemed thoughtful.
"What spell is that?"
"A basic Plant Magic Spell, surprisingly. It is supposed to be used to help remove bad parts of a plant from within. Basically, it's a more refined way of cutting off rotten parts without actually making the vegetable look unappealing from the outside. However, people figured out you can leave stuff inside them and … well, you get the idea."
"I literally never would have thought this was a thing until you told us about it," Gray muttered, clearly in disbelief. "Evil farmers smuggling crap using produce…"
"What a world we live in," Mira added, shaking her head as she looked up slightly, noticing Makarov standing on the second-floor balcony. "Oh, hello Master!"
"I must admit, I too found Elise's story to be rather intriguing," the old man replied. "I never would have thought plants could be used in such a manner. Either way, I'm afraid I'm going to have to steal Elise for a bit?"
"You're ready to speak with me," the God Slayer asked, eliciting a nod from the older man.
"Come on up."
Elise nodded to the group and made her way upstairs, entering Makarov's Office and shutting the door behind her. The old man walked to his desk and sat down, pressing a button that sealed the room off.
"Take a seat," the old man offered, motioning to the couch across from his desk. "First off, let me officially welcome you to Fairy Tail as the Third Master. Usually, you would speak with me on the day of your arrival. However, as you know, I was out of town at the time."
"Thank you, Saint Makarov," Elise replied formally, only for the old man to wave her off.
"None of that. We're not in Era, and this isn't the Council. You may address me as Master, Master Makarov, Third Master or something else that isn't offensive."
"I apologize, Master."
"It isn't a problem. However, the topic of your former position is something I feel we must discuss…"
"What in particular do you want to talk about," Elise asked cautiously as the aged Guild Master leaned back into his chair, observing her.
"As a Wizard Saint, I am of course privy to information that the majority of Fiore aren't. For example, your service record," the old man replied as he placed down a thick folder onto his desk. "I was aware of you before you were discharged from the Council's service, however, actually seeing the sheer size of this service record has been interesting, to say the least."
"Is there an issue with my service record?"
"Let's start with this," Makarov replied as he placed a hand atop the folder, a brief flash bringing a single sheet of paper to his hand. "Youngest accepted applicant to the Rune Knights at eleven years of age. The normally accepted age of applicants is sixteen."
Elise said nothing as Makarov read down the list, unsure of exactly where he was going with all this.
"I want you to read this section here and tell me if it is correct," Makarov asked as he handed her the document.

Reading further into the document, Elise had to admit that it was completely correct. She was, however, surprised to see that her Blood Type had been classified by the Magic Council, as she had not been made aware of that fact.
"It's all correct Master."
"Good. I must say, I've not read a file quite like yours before Elise," Makarov nodded as he took the paper back. "An MPI reading that high, at such a young age, is unheard of. Most Mages struggle to attain one that high over their entire lifetime, yet yours already exceeds that of an S Class Mage at a mere eleven years old…"
"Is there any particular reason you're bringing this up, Master?"
"Putting aside the dark history of Kihetai Village itself, let's talk more about your personnel dossier," Makarov replied as he brought them to his hand and placed it on the desk before her. "Tell me, does this seem accurate to you?"

Looking up at Makarov, Elise knew the old man was studying her curiously. It was obvious why he'd called her in here now, her record practically demanded that he pull her aside.
"What do you want to know?"
"To start with, I think its safe to say that you've killed a lot of people?"
"That's correct Master. My various positions found me in situations that required me to kill a great many hostile Mages. The Council quickly realized I was someone they could throw at a problem and it would go away, so they often deployed me alone…"
"How many do you think you've killed? Roughly?"
"If I had to guess… I'd say around five thousand people over the course of my career, Master."
Makarov's eyes widened ever so slightly. As a Wizard Saint, he of course knew that killing happened far more often than was publicly known. But for a single young woman to have killed so many…
"I know that as a member of Fairy Tail, killing is an absolute last resort," Elise continued, slightly worried at the old man's silence. "I promise to follow that rule to the letter!"
"I told you that you aren't in trouble Elise, and I meant it. You may have had a rough time in the past, and been forced to kill a large number of people, but it holds no bearing on your place in Fairy Tail."
"Oh," Elise sighed in relief. "Thank you Master."
"With that in mind, however, it does present a unique situation. You see, within Fairy Tail, there are certain Mages that go above and beyond in order to protect our Guild from all threats," Makarov explained. "Myself, Gildarts, Laxus, Mirajane, Erza, Mystogan and now Natsu, have all killed a great many people for the Guild. The others have yet to take a single life, and, we hope to keep it that way…"
"What does this have to do with me…?"
"I wish to propose something," the old man replied neutrally. "You clearly are no stranger to violence and killing. Though I do not wish to see any Fairy Tail Mage do it openly, our Guild does have its enemies. Therefore, I would ask if I could bring you in alongside the others I just mentioned?
"To kill threats targeting the Guild?"
"Precisely," Makarov nodded. "Guild politics are no game, and many would see our Guild wiped out. Sometimes, the only solution is to wipe out the opposition instead."
"So, you want me to help this small list of Fairy Tail Mages protect the Guild in a much darker way? To kill if necessary?"
"That is correct."
"I suppose I can do that, provided you aren't just going to send me out like some sort of Assassin and use me to kill off Fairy Tail's rivals?"
"I swear it. This is not about wiping out competition, or shedding blood for the sake of it. This is all about protecting those who have yet to be tainted by the darkness of the world. We want to ensure that they do not need to perform such acts themselves…"
"I get it," Elise nodded slowly. "A lot of the people I've met here wouldn't handle killing someone very well, even if it were self-defense. It's a rather morbid thing to ask someone, but I understand why you're asking me…"
"So, do you accept?"
"I do. It makes sense to do so, since it looks like I'm forming a team with Natsu and Erza anyway."
"I thank you for this, Elise. This is not a request I can make lightly, but it is one I make regardless. The safety and security of this Guild, and the innocent children within, are paramount."
"I understand Master. If all the other people who agreed to this trust you, then I will put my trust in you as well."
"Very good. If you have any further questions, or feel the need to clarify my intentions on this, don't hesitate to ask Erza, Mira, Natsu or Gildarts about it," Makarov sighed, seemingly fatigued just from talking about the subject. "Now then, I just had one last question?"
"Which is?"
"How in the world were you able to become so powerful at such a young age, let alone complete so many missions?"
"Well," Elise smirked as her body slowly began to morph, surprising the aged Guild Master as Eliza took her place.
"That, young man, is quite the tale indeed."
Makarov felt a headache coming on as his eyes met the twinkling ones of the person before him. Sighing, he then began inquiring about her as the afternoon slowly faded into dusk.
***POTD***
Night had fallen by the time the Magic Council were ready to hold the trial. The duo was surprised that they didn't postpone it until the morning, but neither were willing to voice such an opinion aloud.
Lahar led the pair down the same corridor they'd taken last time, as they were warped up into the same Council Chambers they'd been in only several days prior. Unlike that time, however, it felt much colder, less inviting.
Almost immediately, Natsu noticed half the Council weren't even physically present. Instead, Lacrima based projections of them were present where they normally would have stood. At the center, however, was Gran Doma, in the flesh.
"Natsu Dragneel…"
"Gran Doma. I assume that this trial must be a farce," Natsu replied, prompting Erza to blink rapidly before looking back up at the older man who merely narrowed his eyes in response. "After all, I have yet to see Ambassador Lorelei from the Scarlione Embassy, yet we're beginning the proceedings? Surely, the Magic Council of Fiore wouldn't dare violate the Ishgar Treaty of Age Three Forty-Seven?"
"You are … correct," Doma hissed, as if admitting so physically pained the man. "Though let it be known, my anger at your actions is great!"
"I fail to see how that is relevant, Chairman," Siegrain yawned. "Let us not waste time, and instead move on to the matter at hand…"
"I second Siegrain's proposal," Yajima added quickly. "I'm in no mood to be wasting time on your personal grudge with Natsu, when we have a crisis right outside!"
"Very well. Let us move straight to the matter at hand, starting with the destruction of the train carriages?"
"That would be the result of the Dark Guild, Eisenwald. They had killed everyone aboard and fought me, resulting in the destruction of the majority of the carriages."
"Which then led to the events at Oshibana I presume," Yajima replied, eliciting a nod from Natsu. "Survivors we've had questioned all support your claim that you engaged the Eisenwald Guild in an attempt to save them. Is this correct?"
"It is, Councilman."
"Following the fight against the Eisenwald Guild, witnesses testify that yourself, along with Erza Scarlett, Elise Faulkner and Gray Fullbuster, encountered three figures outside the station. Is this correct?"
"It is. To be more specific, the three were Zancrow and Azuma, two of the Seven Kin of Purgatory. They were led by Bluenote Stinger, Grand Wizard and Deputy Commander of Grimoire Heart."
"And this, undoubtedly, is what led to the complete destruction of Oshibana Town," Siegrain asked, clearly already well aware of the answer.
"That's correct."
"After that, I assume you all made your way to the town of Clover?"
"Correct. We sent Gray on ahead to catch up with Erigor The Reaper, Guild Master of Eisenwald, as he had the Demon Flute Lullaby in his possession, and planned to use it to kill all the Guild Masters."
"But you ensured word was sent ahead of time, and Clover was successfully evacuated before the Demon was loosed upon the town," Yajima stated, eliciting a stiff nod from Natsu. "What happened then?"
"I fought Lullaby, but was unable to finish the job since I'd suffered some internal injuries and used up a decent amount of power against Bluenote earlier that day. Gildarts finished the Demon off."
"Which accounts for the destruction of Clover," Doma sighed. "Very well. Now we should discuss what occurred here in Era during the time you fought Lullaby…"
"Grimoire Heart attacked, right?"
"That they did," Yajima sighed. "They tore the entire city apart, making their way to the dungeons."
"I assume they came to break Falk Transil out of prison?"
"Correct. He was not accounted for among the bodies or escaped prisoners," Siegrain nodded. "As of now, he is once again considered to be at large."
"So, I'm guessing you want me to go find him?"
"No. For now, we'd rather not anger the Bharam Alliance further," Gran Doma replied smoothly. "Instead, we have another target we wish for you to deal with. This target is one that could cause just as much damage as Lullaby did, if not more."
"I'm listening…?"
"We have reason to believe that there is a rogue Dark Guild operating out of Galuna Island, a small area off the coast of Hargeon," Siegrain stated as a projection of the island was thrown up. "This Dark Guild are about to complete their plan to revive a powerful Demon Of Zeref, one that had been sealed up over a decade ago."
"Which Demon is it?"
"Deliora," Siegrain answered, noticing almost immediately the tensing of Natsu and Erza's shoulders. "You have heard of this Demon?"
"One of our Guild Members, Gray, is all too familiar with that particular Demon," Natsu replied. "His Master was the one who sealed that thing away, so he won't be happy to hear that a Dark Guild is close to freeing it."
"I see. Perhaps it would be a good idea to take him along with you, as this Demon is incredibly dangerous and any knowledge would prove useful," Siegrain suggested, eliciting only a silent nod from Natsu in turn. "We will, of course, ensure that you are handsomely rewarded for destroying this foul Demon."
"I'll make sure its destroyed," Natsu replied bluntly. "How much is the reward?"
"Three million Jewel due to the threat level this Demon poses to Fiore, should it return to full strength."
"Alright. If that is all, can Erza and I get going? We need to get back to Magnolia and prepare for the trip to Galuna?"
"Of course," Siegrain nodded as his gaze lazily turned to Doma. "Unless, of course, our fearless Chairman has any objections…?
"None," Doma said through grit teeth, clearly unhappy about being talked down to by his colleagues. "You may go."
Natsu and Erza nodded as the various Council Members vanished. The duo went through the Teleportation Lacrima and appeared back in the long corridor.
"Well, that went better than I expected."
"And just what did you expect?"
"For Doma to abuse his position to try and get us in trouble," Natsu snorted as they reached the end of the corridor. "Oh, Councilman Yajima?"
"Hello there Natsu, Erza."
"What can we do for you Councilman," Erza asked politely. "Did you need something else from us?"
"Well, I figured I'd ask if I could join the both of you for the trip back to Magnolia? I planned on filling in Maki about this whole Deliora mess personally."
"Of course you can join us, right Natsu?"
"Yeah. You might be on the Council now, but you were still a Fairy Tail Mage," Natsu agreed immediately. "Why wouldn't we want you to come with us?"
"Wonderful! It'll be good to see the Guild Hall again," the old man replied as they all made for the exit. "It's been five years since I last set foot in there."
"Really? Why's that Councilman," Natsu asked curiously.
"Ah, nothing sinister, I assure you. Despite how some of my colleagues portray it, being a Councillor is a lot of work! I scarcely have the time to do as I wish these days."
"Well, at least today you'll get to indulge yourself," Natsu grinned, the elderly man grinning back.
"I couldn't agree more Natsu. It'll be just like old times," Yajima agreed as the trio made their way toward Era Station, eager to return home.

The trip back to the Guild Hall was wholly uneventful. Considering the past few days, that was considered a blessing The trio arrived at the Guild Hall late into the night, finding it nearly deserted save for the usual late-night frequenters.
"If it's alright with the two of you, I think I'm going to head home?"
"No problem, Erza. I won't be far behind," Natsu replied easily. "Councilman Yajima and I just have to settle this whole job thing with gramps first."
"And believe you me, I won't need him for long for this," Yajima added quickly. "Just to formalize the whole thing."
"Alright then. See you soon Natsu," Erza smiled as she turned on her heel and started making her way home.
"Now that Erza's gone, can I ask why you seem so spaced out Natsu?"
"Hmm? Oh, you could tell?"
"I was once an S Class Mage of this Guild too, you know? Reading others becomes a skill you pick up on as you get on in years," the older man replied. "What's bothering you?"
"There are a great many things that bother me, and most of them are bad. No offense, but the Council hasn't exactly made things easy for me, for at least a decade."
"I understand where you're coming from, truly. Don't go spreading this around, but things have truly gone downhill for the Magic Council ever since Gran Doma got the seat of Chairman. Honestly, I feel like quitting some days because of it…"
"Heaven forbid the thought," Natsu chuckled as he placed a hand on the left door to the Guild Hall. "What would this country do without one of the few good Councillors?"
"You give me far too much credit. I've achieved some great successes in my tenure, but failed to accomplish even one of my main goals."
"I did tell you back in Scarlione that Doma was-."
"-an absolute cunt," Yajima chuckled. "Yes, many a time. You were right, of course, because Doma only got worse as time went on. I just hope he doesn't fall any lower…"
"Well, if he does, Fairy Tail would love to have you back," Natsu grinned, the old man chuckling and gently nudging his leg in response.
"They don't need an old timer like me anymore. Now, it's the time of you youngsters," Yajima replied as they entered the Guild Hall.
The place was vacant, save for Mira who was cleaning up for the night. She looked up in surprise, before quickly placing down what she was carrying and racing over to the pair.
"You're back," Mira smiled as she leapt into Natsu's arms for a hug. "We didn't think you'd be back for at least a few days!?"
"Well, let's just say that my luck is always working overtime for me," he grinned back as he hugged the white-haired Mage back. "By the way, this is Councilman Yajima next to me, in case you didn't notice him?"
Mira gasped, blushing slightly in embarrassment as she separated from Natsu, idly fiddling with a lock of her hair as she looked down at the old man she hadn't noticed.
"Oh my, I'm so sorry Councilman! I didn't even notice you-!"
"Its fine Mirajane, I can't exactly blame you for being happy that Natsu's back so soon," Yajima replied with a wave of his hand. "His charges were extensive, after all."
"Is everything alright? Not that I'm not honoured to see you here, but…"
"I've been given a job by the Council, again," Natsu smirked, bringing a slight frown to Mira's features. "Is gramps in?"
"He's in his office. Will you need the logbook?"
"I'd say so Mirajane," Yajima nodded. "Maki is probably going to forget the finer details if we don't write them down, so best to do so tonight."
"Maki?"
"He means Makarov, Mira. Councilman Yajima here used to be a Fairy Tail Mage, and part of his old team."
"Oh, really!? I honestly didn't know that?"
"There's a lot this country likes to forget when it comes to the Mages of Fairy Tail. Everyone slanders your Guild for various reasons, yet forget the influence it still has over the entire country," Yajima replied knowingly. "All that aside though, we should head up to see Maki."
"I'll go grab the logbook and bring it up."
"Thanks Mira," Natsu grinned as both he, and Yajima, made their way upstairs.
Knocking on the door, they heard Makarov call for them to enter. Natsu motioned for Yajima to wait a moment, and entered alone.
"Hey gramps, guess whose back," Natsu said in a cheerful manner as he casually strolled in, faltering slightly upon noticing the old man didn't even show any sign of surprise. "Aww, come on? Surely this surprised you a little bit? Mira was shocked, so why aren't you?"
"Over the last week, I've learned not to find surprise in anything you do anymore Natsu," the aged Guild Master replied bluntly. "Fact is, you seem to defy the norm."
"So, nothing surprises you anymore, eh Maki?"
As Yajima casually strolled in, Makarov's eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets. He looked between Natsu and Yajima, a deep scowl on his face.
"Damn it! How the hell do you keep doing this Natsu!?"
"I learned from the best, what can I say?"
"All you do is make it more tempting for me to punish Gildarts for everything he does to my sanity," Makarov huffed. "And you'll be on that list soon enough!"
"Settle down Maki, no one needs to be punished," Yajima chuckled as both he, and Natsu, took a seat on the couch. "How are you Maki, sanity aside?"
"I'm doing well, assuming you aren't here to have Fairy Tail shut down…?"
"Hah! As if I'd be the one to come and deliver that kind of news Maki! No, I decided to come back with Natsu and Erza to personally inform you of the new job the Council has tasked Natsu with."
"I'm not going to like the sound of this, am I?"
"Sorry to interrupt," Mira's voice chimed in as she entered the room. "I have the logbook."
"Thanks Mira," Natsu smiled as Yajima took it from her.
"To put it simply Maki, Doma has decided to have Natsu handle the Deliora situation-."
"WHAT!? Please tell me you're joking," the aged Guild Master cried out in shock. "Do you lot even understand how much of a delicate situation that is!?"
"We're well aware. But, take a guess whose bright idea it was to give this task to Natsu…"
"Doma," Makarov snarled. "That bastard-!"
"Isn't Deliora the Demon that killed Gray's family," Mira asked, clearly concerned as she looked between the three. "Gray said his Master had sacrificed herself to seal it away, didn't he?"
"Unfortunately, Dark Guilds do as they always do, Mira," Natsu sighed. "Deliora is on the cusp of being revived."
"Oh no…"
"I assume you'll be asking me if you can take Gray along, won't you," Makarov asked, as if reading Natsu's mind.
"Its his right to go, to avenge his family and Master. I won't deprive him of that gramps, and neither should you."
"I wasn't going to deny you taking him along," Makarov replied with a shake of the head. "My only concern is if he can mentally handle this?"
"I think you're underestimating Gray a little," Natsu replied plainly. "This is something he needs to overcome in order to grow as a Mage. I think he'll surprise you, and prove he's more than capable of facing this."
"Very well," Makarov sighed. "I'll leave the specifics of who you take to your own discretion."
"Thanks gramps."
"I'm logging this job as a Decade Quest, considering Deliora's reputation," Yajima chimed in as he wrote down the details of the job. "As we discussed back in the Council Chambers, the payment will be three million Jewel."
"I understand."
"Good. Now then," Yajima sighed as he snapped the logbook shut. "I have some personal things to discuss with Maki, so you can head on home if you'd like Natsu?"
"Sure. It was nice talking to you again, Councilman Yajima," Natsu smiled as he rose from his seat and moved to stand next to Mira.
"Just call me Yajima when we're in private," the old man smiled. "You've earned that right by now."
"Of course," Natsu replied as both he, and Mira, made for the door. "See you around, Yajima."
The two S Class Mages left, leaving Makarov and Yajima alone.
"I got that letter you sent me Maki, the one that said you had something urgent to discuss with me," the Councilman said once he was sure the two younger Mages were gone. "What's going on?"
"Yes. It relates to the Valtheim job," Makarov replied as he leaned back into his seat. "Here's what Natsu told me that he withheld from the Council debrief…
***POTD***
The moon shone brightly upon the island of Galuna, far brighter than it appeared almost anywhere else. The light shimmered down upon a singular spot, a large temple built into the tallest mountain on the island, gently piercing through a perfectly sized hole to illuminate the area within.
The sound of trickling water could be heard, as a white-haired young man stepped out onto a wooden platform, a stern look on his face.
"The thawing process is almost complete," the young man muttered as he examined a massive block of thick, blue ice. "Soon, I'll have my revenge, and you'll be able to rest easy, Ur."
"Isn't it beautiful," a young, pink-haired girl whispered from behind the white-haired man. "He's avenging her out of love!"
"Is love literally the only thing you know how to talk about," a slightly older, blue-haired man snapped. "Sometimes, a man just has to exact revenge! Love doesn't have anything to do with it!"
"How dare you treat the power of love that way-!"
"Enough," the white-haired man snapped. "Now isn't the time for us to be arguing, not when we're so close to our goal."
"Come on, you've got to admit that all this love talk of hers is getting annoying!?"
"You're just jealous because you don't know what love is," the girl snapped back, prompting the white-haired teen to step in-between them.
"Stop! The thawing process is almost complete, and the Demon will begin to wake soon," the young man cut in sharply. "We came this far as a team, so, let's finish this as a team!"
"Fine," the blue-haired man sniffed.
"Whatever you say," the pink-haired girl huffed.
"We're close to our goal," the white-haired man continued as he turned and walked back out onto the wooden platform. "Soon…"
The moonlight flared up momentarily, the bright flash illuminating the right side of a Demonic face within the ice for a brief moment. The white-haired man snarled and clenched his fists just seeing it, before turning and storming out of the room.
As he left, he failed to notice a figure lazily sitting atop a small rock that jutted out of the roof of the cavern. They lazily watched the proceedings, a crystal ball in their hands that showed the face of the Demon within the ice.
"All according to plan, Lord Siegrain…"
