Ch.36 Back to Fairy Tail

Three hours later, Jax finally left the mountains and went to Shirotsume to alert them of the completion of the job. As he arrived at the village, he saw that there were still some people on the lookout in case the monster horde came back again. Glancing at them, Jax entered directly into the village and went to the commander's tent. It wasn't hard to miss as he simply had to look for the larger tent.

"Stop. Who are you?" Asked one of the guards in front of the tent.

"I'm a mage from Fairy Tail. I was tasked with a job and came here to report to the commander before I left," Jax replied casually.

The guards frowned on Jax's attitude but still sent the message as it was their job. It was a good move as a few moments later, the commander came out of the tent to see Jax. "So, how was it? I know you managed to kill the Vulcan king but did you get rid of the Blizzardvern as well? Is another horde coming?" Asked the commander without stopping for a second to take a breath.

"Yeah, the Vulcan king and the Blizzardvern have been killed. The monster horde should be artificially made as there were traces of some magic at the top of the mountain. I erased the trace of magic, but the dark mage or the group of dark mages could still try to do it again, but considering the price of the resources used in conjunction with that magic, I doubt they will do it again for a while. As for the Vulcans, they are back to their old selves, so there's no need to worry about that." Answered Jax, much to the relief of the commander.

"Right, has there been any messages for me?" Asked Jax as he had been out in the mountains for almost a week.

"No, nothing came. So what are you going to do now?" Asked the commander.

"I'll be going back to Fairy Tail. My job is over, and so should be this battlefield. Goodbye." Said Jax as he turned around and left in the direction of Fairy Tail. Before the commander could say anything, Jax had taken flight and flew at full speed towards Fairy Tail.

"Isn't he a bit arrogant for such a young wizard?" Said one of the two guards guarding the tent.

"You just don't understand his power. Killing a Vulcan king and its elite Vulcans and a Blizzardvern along a few wyverns is a job that can be considered S-rank. Maybe he doesn't yet have an S-rank mage's strength, but he is infinitely close to this level. If you were so strong at his age, you would also have your temperament." Answered the commander as he smiled, seeing Jax flying towards Magnolia.

Unknowingly to both the commander and the guard, Jax hadn't been arrogant but simply wasn't close enough to them to care about them any longer. He didn't know what had happened due to being stuck in the mountains for almost a week, and he was slightly worried that something went wrong.

He made his way as fast as he could to the guild with the egg in his arms. It took two hours two arrive back at Magnolia. He then took a few minutes to arrive at the Fairy Tail guild building and pushed open the doors to enter the guild. It was still empty, which meant that the members who left for the job at the whirlpool sea hadn't come back.

"Hey, master. How did the jobs of the others go?" He asked as he came closer to the bar of the guild where the master liked to sit.

"It's currently fine at the Whirlpool sea. The monster wave has already started leaving. The calm sea didn't show any monsters, and Gildarts came back two days ago. He said that there was a spell that made the monsters enraged in the mountains. It was human-made. He simply destroyed the whole mountain top to stop the magic. What about you?" Asked the master as he eyed Jax.

"It was also human-made on my side. There was a certain magic that used silver celestial spirit keys as a booster. Whenever the magic destroyed a key, a pulse of magic would be sent to the surroundings, which prompted the monsters to leave the mountain to fight. There was a Vulcan king with its elite commanding the Vulcans to fight, and there was a Blizzardvern with its wyverns to protect the keys. I killed them and collected the remaining keys. I also got this egg as loot after the fight with the Blizzardvern." Jax said as he showed the egg, he found on top of the mountain.

The master looked closer to the egg and sighed at Jax's luck as he said. "It is indeed the egg of a Blizzardvern. You're lucky. A normal Blizzardvern evolves from a wyvern and normally has at the peak of his strength the strength of an average S-rank mage. What you have here is already a Blizzardvern, it doesn't need to evolve, and his bloodline can be considered purer. It should have the strength of a top S-rank mage in the future. To hatch it, you'll need magically charged ice lacrimas to give the egg the best environment to hatch. Compared to other monsters, it needs freezing temperature to hatch."

"Alright, thanks, master. Also, did the guy selling the bracelet come to the guild?" Asked Jax as he was slightly expectant of this.

"Yeah, he came yesterday with the hundred bracelets and like you said, I paid him two million Jewels. What's the use of the bracelets anyway?" Asked the master as he hadn't looked closely at them due to the monster tides.

At this question, Jax thus explained everything he knew about the bracelets, including the defects, which meant that except for him, no one else in the world could entirely create them.

"You mean that by using this bracelet mixed with your magic, a mage can release your spells with the energy stored inside of it?" The master said with a wide-eyed as he stared at the bracelet Jax had completed in the shop a week back.

"Yeah. Unfortunately, the ratio of magic power used and power contained is awful right now. However, storing energy in the bracelet is also good training for my magical control, so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to improve the ratio and let the owner use more spells." Jax said with a smile.

"Indeed, it is an excellent magic tool. Had it not been for the restriction, it would be prevalent all around the continent." The master sighed yet again as he gave back the bracelet to Jax.

"Alright, your job is completed, and you will receive your payment from the magic council in a few days. Eat something and go back home to relax." Said the master as he took back his mug and looked at the gates of the guild.

"Alright." Answered Jax as he went to the bar to eat some food and consequently ask if Cana had stopped by to eat in the guild. After seeing the worker nod, Jax was satisfied as he ate with relish and went back home.

Arriving home, Jax opened the gate and went to the garden and decided to go and relax behind the house. He wasn't tired physically but mentally, and he just needed to relax to go back to his peak state. As Jax came to the patio behind the house, he saw Cana at the table turning her cards tirelessly.

The silver-haired-boy had already given her a token to allow her to stay here. As such, Jax wasn't surprised to see her there. However, he wondered what she was doing with her cards as she seemed intensely focused to the point that she didn't hear Jax behind her.

Looking over her shoulder, he saw her turn the cards, say some things, reshuffled the cards, drew again and restarted from the beginning. After a few times she did it, Jax interrupted her before she reshuffled her cards by making some noise as he went to the chair in front of her. "So, what are you doing?" Asked Jax as he smiled slightly at her surprised appearance.

"I'm trying to use my magic to choose which card I want from the deck. After all, if I want an explosive card during the battle, I can't be searching for them, and I need my magic to help me take the right one." Explained Cana as she showed Jax how she was practising.

"Right, can you show me card magic? I wanted to see back then, but because of the job, I had to leave immediately and didn't get the chance to see." Asked Jax as he leaned forward.

Hearing his question, Cana smiled sweetly before nodding and taking the three first cards on top of the deck and aimed towards the garden as they glowed red, blue and yellow before making small explosions on the grass and destroying a part of the lawn. She seemed very excited at using her magic in front of Jax until she saw the grass explode and a small hole appearing in the yard.

Flustered, she turned towards Jax and tried to explain. "So-Sorry. I just wanted to show you. I'll go and patch up the hole." She said with her head down.

"Haha, don't worry about it. Look, it's already gone." Said Jax as he waved his hands, showing it was nothing.

"Right, how do you like the house? Are you used to it yet?" Asked Jax as he tried to change the subject.

"Yeah! The house is great! Way better than the orphanage. Although it's a little bit big." Cana said as she said the last sentence to herself. Unfortunately for her, Jax's hearing was way better than others due to his magic, and he could catch it.

"Yeah, I agree. I made the house a little too big. So what do you say? Want to live with me? I had made the house to live with my friends, but apart from you, I only have Laxus as a friend, and he lives with the master so I'm all alone in the house and I do agree that it's too big to live alone." Said Jax as he invited her to move permanently. Anyway, he was confident that Cana would join Fairy Tail, and so he didn't mind living with someone else of the guild, especially since they became friends.

"Alright, thanks!" Said Cana happily as she didn't like the orphanage. "I'll pay you back when I can take jobs in the future." She added right afterwards.

"There's no need to repay. If you don't take a room, it'll be empty, and I also want to live with someone, so it's all fine! Do you have things at the orphanage?" Asked Jax as he would help her moving if necessary.

"Yeah, but only a small bag. I'll go and get it and come back right afterwards." She said as she got up and ran out of the garden.

With a smile, Jax sat by the pool and with his feet in the water, and he laid down on the grass next to it. Feeling quite relaxed, he fell asleep.
