Ch.15 Villa

Knocking on the door, Jax waited for a moment before a heavily tired young lady opened the door. Last night, Sara, who had finally understood that bad people were trying to capture or kill her, had difficulty sleeping. After all, had it not been for her young bodyguard being alert, she would have been kidnapped without being able to do anything to stop them.

"How are you doing this morning?" Jax asked as he looked at the sixteen years old girl.

"I'm fine, thank you for asking." She answered without her usual haughty attitude.

'She probably understood that her life was in danger and that I was necessary to protect her from the people coming after her.' Jax thought as he nodded his head. "Would you like to go for breakfast? I'm fully aware that you do not want me in your surroundings but considering what happened the previous night, I hope to be able to accompany you to ensure your safety," Jax asked respectfully towards the daughter of his client.

"Yes, I'll go and do. Please come with me." She whispered back. "Also, did you find anything on the three men from yesterday?" She asked while consciously not asking Jax what he did with the three dark mages.

"Yes, from them was your abduction request. The request should have changed as the reward from your capture is of a total of 500,000 Jewels, and this is a request B rank dark mages usually takes. Moreover, with that reward, more than a few dark mages will come, and there will certainly be a few strong ones." Jax explained what he had found from the three dead men with a severe look.

Sara's eyes were wide open at the revelation that the reward on her capture had increased so much. "Can you deal with B rank mages?" She immediately asked Jax as she didn't want to gamble with her life.

"Well, I wouldn't say yes if we were not going to the beach, but as long as we are close to a body of water to supplement my magic, I can take care of B rank dark mages." Jax nodded without hesitating. "As for anything lower than this, there is no problem wherever we are," Jax said, full of confidence.

"Alright then, when we go back home, I'll tell my father to increase your reward due to a change in the job." She said, already feeling calmer.

"Sure." Jax nodded his head. "So, shall we go for breakfast?" Jax asked while pointIng in the direction of the cafeteria.

"Alright, let's go." She nodded and made her way to the cafeteria with Jax walking by her side.

In this way, the ship slowly made its way towards Caelum without having any more passengers disappear from thin air. The last night on the boat had been peaceful, most likely because there were no other dark mages on the ship, or those mages had noticed the disappearance of a few colleagues.

Arriving at Caelum, Jax and Sara immediately went to the small villa owned by her father, M.Rais. The small estate, in Sara's words, was a three-story high house that had a beautiful view of the ocean with a private beach surrounded by reefs. In the beginning, the plan was to go and explore the village. However, following the events on the boat, Sara pushed the program to the next day. In this way, according to the lady's plan, there was a small fair in the village twenty minutes from the house. She went there every year. Afterwards, she would enjoy the beach for a few days and from the second week, there would be a party with a few of her friends who would come and live in the villa for a week before she made her way back to Divide island.

The three-story villa was made of pale brown wood from top to bottom, along with pale stone slabs making the pavement leading from the road to the house's door. Flowers of various colours bloomed on both sides of the house, and the grass was freshly cut, showing that someone had been taking care of the villa.

Entering the villa, Jax followed Sara as he amplified the house's noise to his maximum capacity. With his sound magic, he would hear the breathing of anyone currently in the house. Confirming that there wasn't anyone in the house, the boy made a simple round in every room to verify that everything was fine. He knew that since dark mages had attacked back on the ship, it was highly probable that they had known about their whereabouts. As such, he looked everywhere in the house to look for traps or anything similar.

Once Jax was done, he joined Sara on the third floor. Her room stood at the very top of the villa. Her room faced the beach. Sliding doors made up of the northern part of the room with a balcony which linked the only two rooms on the north side of the third floor of the villa. Considering his job, he didn't hesitate to take the room next to the lady as he couldn't let anyone else pick it the next week. He knew nothing about her friends, and even if he knew them, his job was to protect her from the dark mages, and he had to keep a suspicion about everyone. After all, her life highly depended on it, and he had to complete his job correctly.

Going to her room, he knocked at her door and asked: "Young lady, it will soon be time to eat, do you want me to make something?" Jax had long known how to cook for himself. He couldn't always depend on the workers of the guild.

"No, I'll do the cooking this time. By the way, you can call me Sara. No need to always call me young lady or anything like that." She said as she opened the door and went downstairs.

"Alright." Jax simply nodded as he went downstairs with her.

As Sara went to the kitchen, starting to cook, Jax focused on his dark magic. He hadn't forgotten his idea of storing things in his shadow. The day after Jax had killed the three dark mages, the young silver-haired boy had turned back to research his magic. The more he dived and studied on this magic, the more he understood how much potential it had. Not only could he store items in his shadow, but as long as he controlled this magic perfectly, he wouldn't have to fear heights as he merely had to fall on a shadow to cushion his fall. Another application of this magic would be fast travel by travelling from shadow to shadow at a higher speed. Not only that but binding his enemies would do wonders by controlling their shadows. After all, while our shades were merely a projection of ourselves when facing a source of light, we controlled it by moving. Consequently, if we stopped the shadow from moving, could we hold the person who made this shadow? Those were only some applications which he would have to research.

Unfortunately for Jax, while he had ten different types of magic, all with too high potential, they also restrained him by having too many elements to develop, which slowed him down. This situation flawlessly represented by the famous saying: 'Jack of all trades, master of none.'

Erasing the useless thoughts, he merely figured that if he had to develop so many magics, he simply had to stop wasting time uselessly. Besides, it wasn't as if time was something he didn't currently have since he was simply seven years old.

Smirking to himself, Jax turned his attention to his dark magic and started to imagine that there was a room in his shadow which could store objects. He had begun this training he had previously did on the ship, and he had managed to start inserting some part of the item in the shadow but never wholly. However, Jax knew that his spell was close to success. The space inside the shadow was continually expanding, and soon, he would manage to store some small objects. He did not doubt it.

In this way, he continued to train while Sara made the food. It didn't take very long as merely twenty minutes later she came out of the kitchen with two food plates.

Taking the platter she gave him, he tasted it, and Sara could easily see from his face that the food tasted quite good. While it was very regular food, it was spicy and delicious, and he didn't hesitate to tell her as she looked at his expression.

"Hum, it's delicious. Thank you very much for the food." Jax said as he smiled at her.

Seeing him like her food, she smiled back and nodded at him before eating her food.

After eating, Jax took the plates and went to clean up the kitchen. She had made the food, and he couldn't also let her clean everything. As such, while he cleaned, she went back upstairs to the third floor and just as Jax finished cleaning rapidly, thanks to his water magic cleaning the plates and his air and fire magic to dry them, Jax heard a shout from the top floor.

Turning his head with sharp eyes, Jax immediately used his sound magic to block his noise while amplifying his sense of hearing with his sound magic as he ran towards the third floor of the villa. He hadn't thought that the enemies would come directly from the windows, but now that he thought about it, he was pretty stupid not thinking about it. Currently, he could only hope that they didn't know that there was someone else in the house as he wished to take care of them rapidly and cleanly.

I will release a chapter per day starting from here unless I'm in a good mood... it's really on a whim tho haha. Feel free to leave comments, at least it shows me that you read it :)
