I'm sorry, I completely forgot about this story. At first, I was avoiding writing this cause I was out of good ideas and I didn't really feel like writing at the time anymore. Over time, I just kept putting it off until I forgot about this, until now. In retrospect, I cringed so much when I re-read all the chapters. I really just wanna get this over with so I can get one step closer to getting rid of my dark past.
Disclaimer: Fairy Tail is not mine, but if it was, either NaZa or NaMi would've been the main pairing for Natsu. The characters in this story is also OOC because this is a romance fanfiction, so I want them to act more like relatable (somehow) real people and less like cartoon characters.
Huge thank you to all who followed this story, and please enjoy :)
Chapter 17: Hic Sunt Dracones
"Damn, that was easy." Exclaimed a pink-haired mage.
"They're just street thieves, what'd you expect?" His scarlet-haired companion replied teasingly.
"Anyway, let's turn them in and get our reward. We still have the whole day ahead of us." Erza excitedly said.
After turning the bandits in and getting their reward, they explored the city together, with Erza clinging to Natsu's arm. To passerbys, they looked like your ordinary couple on a date.
By the time they knew it, the sun had already set.
"Want to head back to the hotel?" Erza asked Natsu, "Sure…" Natsu said apathetically.
Once they reached their hotel room, they freshened up.
"I'll take a shower first," Erza said.
While Erza was in the shower, Natsu lay on the bed with his hands behind his head and gathering his thoughts, something he's been doing a lot lately.
Although they were hiding it, he felt guilty that he let Erza do things with him that he promised Mira he would only do with her. But it's not like he could do anything about it after all. Once he declines Erza's advances, he already knew what lay in store for him.
At first, he found it difficult to believe that Erza would lie to the guild about him violating her even though they both knew that was the opposite of the truth. But as he spent more time with Erza and she got more aggressive, he slowly realized that things were more serious than he thought.
There was even a time when he flirted with a client just to piss her off. He figured that it was a good way to get back at her without overstepping the limits she placed on him.
Later that day, he found out that someone broke into their client's house and badly hurt her, enough to hospitalize her. He didn't want to believe that Erza would be capable of something like that, but seeing how she smiled when she heard that news, it honestly frightened him. But it wasn't like he knew for certain it was Erza, but he worked up the courage to ask her straight-on. Her response sent chills down his spine. She didn't even try to deny it.
"I had to teach someone a lesson." She said with a smirk, showing no emotions in her eyes while doing so. It was as if she was in a trance or had another personality.
Since that day, he learned to go with Erza's whims not just for himself, but also for the sake of other people. No matter what she wanted to do with him, he had to bear it, fearing what else Erza is capable of.
He was broken out of his thoughts when Erza came out of the shower with one towel wrapped around her body, looking at him with a sexy smirk.
Natsu ignored her and went to the bathroom, but was stopped by Erza when she put a hand to his chest when he was about to pass her by.
"I can't wait anymore. I've been holding myself back for 3 days already." She said with a desperate voice, eager to get things started, dragging him closer to the bed with one hand on his wrist.
"But we've been out the whole day," Natsu complained.
"It can wait for later. Besides-" Erza pushed Natsu to the bed, straddling him and taking off her towel. "I don't mind." She whispered with her face close to his, before pouncing on him, earning her a grunt from the dragon slayer.
...
Once they came back to the guild, Natsu went up to Mira and gave her a peck on the cheek.
"How was the job? Good?" Mira asked her pink-haired boyfriend.
"Boring." Natsu curtly replied, making Mira chuckle.
Erza watched the two of them as they continued to talk to each other, feeling jealous that they could openly act like a couple in public, a luxury she didn't have.
Sighing, she sat down near the bar and waited for someone to get her order of the usual strawberry cheesecake. Maybe she can eat her sorrow away.
Unbeknownst to Erza, Gildarts has been keeping a close eye on her ever since that night she followed Natsu back to his house after Master Makarov's birthday party. He didn't know himself why exactly, but he was sensing something more going on between Natsu and Erza lately if the frequency of two-person jobs they were taking together lately wasn't enough of an indicator. He told himself that it was normal for mages to take a lot of jobs, but Natsu and Erza are almost never around anymore just like he used to be before becoming the guild master.
He also knows that Natsu is in a relationship with Mira while Erza had just abruptly ended hers with her long-time love interest, Jellal. The signs weren't there in the first place. Jellal and Erza were going steady in their relationship, but there was no cause for concern that would cause them to break up, at least not that he knew of. So to suddenly break up and then spend more time with Natsu than he does with his girlfriend was quite odd.
He wasn't all that inclined to intrude on his guild members' love lives, but he just had a growing suspicion that there was something here that more than meets the eye.
He wanted to get to the bottom of this.
So he struck up a conversation with the scarlet-haired knight.
"Yo, Erza" he casually called out, sitting down next to her. "Master? What can I do for you?" Erza acknowledged.
"Nothing, just here to make conversation." He said.
"Is that so? What about?"
"For starters, is there something weighing you down?" Gildarts started.
"Not really." Erza answered, taken aback by his sudden inquiry, "What makes you say that?"
"Nothing, really. It just looks that way to me." he chuckled.
Erza chuckled as well. "Well, I appreciate the concern Master, but I'm perfectly fine, as you can see."
"That's great then. Anyway, I couldn't help but notice that you and Natsu have been doing a lot of two-person jobs lately." As soon as he said this, Erza's casual demeanor changed and she put her guard up. "Is there a problem with that?"
"I'm just curious, that's all."
"We're just doing our jobs," Erza responded.
"And there's no problem with that. But you should consider doing it with others from time to time."
"Why?"
"Well, you know how Natsu and Mira are a couple, right?" When he said this, he could've swore he heard Erza growl.
"Yeah, and what about it?"
"My only concern is how you spend even more time with Natsu lately than Mira does. Do you think you could give them a bit of time together?" Gildarts requested, seeing how Erza was going to react.
"I don't think that's any of your business, Master." Erza coldly replied, her eyes nearly devoid of emotion. Seeing this sudden change in Erza worried him.
"It becomes my business when someone from my guild is involved."
"What are you saying? Did Mira put you up to this?"
"No, I'm just concerned about her relationship with Natsu. Any more time they spend apart and they'll practically become strangers to each other." Gildarts lightly joked, to ease a bit of the tension. He didn't know if Erza herself realized that she was getting a tad more aggressive than she would normally be.
"We're just doing missions together. It's nothing for Mira to get worried about."
"You're missing the point here. Frankly, I want you to give Natsu a bit of space and time to spend with Mira."
"Is that an order?"
"No, it's just a request. Again, I'm just looking out for them. I hope I'm not coming across as intrusive or anything." Gildarts chuckled. He knows that his duties as a guild master should not extend to the private lives of his subordinates, but in his mind, he's just looking out for them.
"Well, you are." Erza bluntly said.
Gildarts was taken off-guard and his eyes slightly widened. "What?"
Erza ignored him and stood up to leave the guild. Gildarts followed her with his head, and when she reached his spot in the bar on the way to the guild doors, she coldly said to him before turning to leave the guild:
"Mind your own business."
And that's a wrap. Again, sorry for the really late update. I really want to finish this story, so any idea is welcomed with warm arms.
