Engagement Ring?

Li Jie was surprised to see Jian Tang at the breakfast table as he came down from his room. He walked to the table and sat beside her only to see the table full of his favourite dishes.

"Good morning Ah'Jie. Teacher Yang called me asking if we can be present for the award ceremony tomorrow. I said yes." Jian Tang said, filling his dish for him. Li Jie was stunned seeing the changes in her in one single night. He turned to Li Feng for answers who only nodded.

"You don't have to go out today." As soon as Li Jie words fell the atmosphere turned silent until Jian Tang said 'No' herself. Li Feng could see the tips of her ears turning red, making his lips turn upward.

The atmosphere quickly turned light hearted. The servants including the butler Ryan finally felt relieved seeing the harmonious family of three once again. The last few days were hard for everyone.

Everyone was happy except Li Jie who couldn't relax due to Leng Rui's message. He wanted to consult either of his parents but at the moment it felt wrong. He told Jian Tang about the school award ceremony instead.

His peaceful morning and afternoon quickly passed away while seeing movies with Jian Tang. Some of them turned out to be her classic movies in which she starred before marrying Li Feng. Li Jie was hesitant at first to watch it with her. But Jian Tang told him it was fine, giving him a green signal.

Li Jie could help but laugh and cry with Jian Tang explaining the depth of each character. He finally understood why she was a movie queen. It was all due to her acting skills and her understanding of human nature.

Li Jie got up from the sofa telling Jian Tang goodbye as it was 4pm. He quickly changed his clothes and went to the address Leng Rui the jerk gave him. He was warned before leaving by Jian Tang if he was found drinking again she wouldn't stop her fist not caring about his grades.

Li Jie laughed it off in front of her but he was scared to a certain extent. Before no one stopped him from drinking…wait there was that person.

[Host, we shouldn't be getting too close to the Main Villain.] The system 420 interrupted his thought process, making him annoyed. But he couldn't beat someone who didn't have any physical form.

Li Jie was quickly under the supposed apartment building mentioned in Leng Rui's message. The youth felt the direction of wind on his face was probably the effect of this tall skyscraper. He quickly entered and told the receptionist his name. To which he was quickly shown the private elevator and requested to go directly to the top floor.

Li Jie really enjoyed the view through the glass elevator. This made him remember some bad memories while he was fighting with the superheroes. But somehow they seemed more and more distant as if the life he lived previously was letting go of him. He soon stood in front of the apartment in Leng Rui's message. Which was clearly a large penthouse.

Li Jie rang the doorbell to the penthouse which was surprisingly opened by Leng Rui, not a servant.

"Hello!" Li Jie was swift in welcoming himself inside and taking off his shoes. Leng Rui was wearing a white shirt along with glasses; his sleeves seemed to have folded for work.

"Here are slippers." Leng Rui bent, putting a pair of pink fluffy slippers near Li jie's feet. Leaving Li Jie stunned for a moment. At this time it was finally drawn that Li Jie Leng Rui was actually his type when he was silent. He quickly wore the pink slippers and followed the man inside.

Li Jie's brain was cooking a different scheme to drug Leng Rui and make him mute. Or maybe he could hit his head and make him lose his memory.

[Host, main villain? Plot? Do you not care about plot?] Li Jie only had one answer for the system 'Nah!'.

Just when Li Jie was busy in his scheming how to turn Leng Rui meek. Leng Rui finally put a cup of coffee in front of Li Jie, making him wake up from his fantasies.

*Cough*

Li Jie faked up a cough to bring himself to be serious, reminding himself about Leng Rui's late night message. He took a sip from the cup and put it down. Looking at Leng Rui with all seriousness.

"Mr Leng, let's get to the point directly. I don't like going round and round in circles.

"I hope you won't call for me like I am your dog…you don't care about my time, second you take me for granted, third you call me to a place where my security might be in danger. Fourth this engagement started with you threatening me but I hope something like that never happens in future.

And last thing, tell me your real motive behind this engagement?" Leng Rui heard Li Jie's complaining with a poker face, not reacting until his last question.

He was sitting across from Li Jie on the sofa, observing Li Jie's every action. The clock on the wall was making loud noises at the moment and the eye contact between both of them seemed intensed.

Leng Rui finally spoke, breaking the uncomfortable silence.

"Okay, I will keep in mind not message you after midnight, treat you like a human, let's meet in public places next time. And i didn't threatened you I was speaking truth, I can make help you become the heir but at the same time I can also be the biggest obstacle." Leng Rui didn't mention anything about his motive behind his engagement, he was looking bored in all things happening around. This only angered Li Jie, there was no way Leng Rui was taking him seriously. The visit today was waste of time for him.

Li Jie stood up to leave. When Leng Rui told him to wait and put down a blue velvet box on the tea table. His eyes were telling Li Jie to open it.

Li Jie opened the small box of jewellery helplessly,there was an outdated but expensive women's engagement ring sitting inside. He put the box on the table with the ring in his hand.

"Is this the engagement ring?" Li Jie put it on his finger and was once again ready to leave. But Leng Rui stopped him from leaving, taking his hand that was wearing the ring.

"This ring belongs to my mother." He spoke looking at the ring with complicated emotions and removed the ring from Li Jie's hand gently and placed it on the ring finger properly.

"I sure do have my intentions in trying to get engaged to you. But I will pay you fairly." Leng Rui kissed Li Jie on the ring making a shiver run down his spine. As Leng Rui's black eyes looked at him intensely.

Li Jie had seen a fair share of people who were interested in him for his body, face, and intelligence. But he couldn't spot any lust, love or greed in Leng Rui's eyes. As if he was just a means to get to the goal for Leng Rui, not a person to be interested in. There was an uncomfortable emotion in Li Jie's heart. He had never felt like an outsider in this new world he was in so he treated people around him like humans. But Leng Rui who was clearly from this world was doing the total opposite.

Leng Rui brought a pastry and a wine bottle along with a single. "This is a small celebration for our partnership. We can sign off on the prenup in the next meeting."

But Li Jie was unaffected, hearing that. He simply didn't have the energy to tell Leng Rui it wasn't a partnership but a compromise. He took the cake and put it in his mouth. A sweet chocolate flavour filled his mouth making his heart light.

"It tastes good." Li Jie spoke, taking small bites like a child savouring his treat. Leng Rui was taken back by the appearance. The appearance was too similar, so was the face. But Leng Rui quickly shaken off the thought there was no the person he was finding wasn't a spoiled brat with low IQ.

He quickly dranked the whole glass making him feel a bit tipsy. Both of them part ways and Leng Rui sended Li Jie to the outside of the building.

The two figures stood in front of the tall building looking small at night. Until Li Jie finally got a taxi and left. Leng Rui finally got back to the empty living room where only the empty plate and half filled wine glass was left. He walked to the study not caring about the mess.

The study was completely different from the rest of the penthouse. It seemed to be representing the taste of its owner. Leng Rui started reading the document he was reading before Li Jie came. His people finally had seemed to have found a clue about the orphanage in Country A.

His hand gripped the file tightly reading the information about the children who were still in the orphanage and who had left. But he was still dissatisfied not any trace of the person. As if he didn't existed from the start.
