140 Hayley’s Diary

[August 30, 2050]

Hi, I wasn't sure how to start this, but when Isabella gave me this idea I thought that I should give it a try.

There are so many things that I would like to tell you, mom. Most of them you would never believe, like how this nightmare started for me when dad kicked me out of the house or that it was Spencer the one that helped me when I was in the lowest moment in my life.

I decided to write this because there are so many things that I need to talk about, and no one to talk to. After all, this happened I don't know what happened to Hannah or Megan, I don't blame them for not opening the door to me that day, but I would like to know if they are alright. With some luck, I might find them here.

We are in our third refuge, the first one was spencer's house, but we had to leave because the place was flooded by monsters, the second was a group of apartments in the east of the city, and now we joined a larger group of survivors, the place it's called Green Shelter. Dad is here, and I could talk to him again… it's been two weeks since the last time, but it felt like if it was much longer.

Even if he hugged me and I'm able to control my powers now, I can see that he is scared. I don't know if it because of the aura or are just the memories of what happened that day, but I feel like our relationship will never come back to what it used to be.

I hope I'm wrong.

That's the same reason for why I prefer not to live with him for now. I feel safer near Spencer, I think any girl would feel like that if at the end of your date the image you see is him protecting you from an alligator.

I know better than anyone what these feelings mean, but he is with someone now, I might even push them a little in that direction.

Her name is Rose and is the sister of his best friend. I noticed that they liked each other from the beginning. She was pretty obvious… Spencer was trickier to discover, but he looked at her with the same eyes that he looked at me when we were dating.

I even tried to flirt with him a little, but in the end, I knew that Rose feelings for him were stronger than mine, even now I'm not entirely sure what I feel for him, but I know that I want to stay at his side, I think I owe him that much after what he did for me…

I couldn't talk about this with anyone, after all, everyone on the group beside me is somewhat related, I only dared to speak about it with Spencer's cat, Dante. That changed a little when Isabella arrived, but I'm still a little reluctant of talking to her about this… she noticed that something has been bugging me and told that if I didn't want to speak, I could write about it to get it out of my chest.

There is a nice effect in writing this thinking of your mom, it has a liberating effect. Right now, I think that my life should become better. I hope that my aura doesn't bother the people around me but with dad here and so many people, I feel safer than before.

I know that the world it's still dangerous, but I think that our situation will be a lot better than how it was before. At least with more people, it should be like that right?

Sorry, mom, I have to go now, we are going to start training together.

Even if this place is safer we all agree that we need to learn how to fight, we tried fighting some beast the other day and it was a disaster if it wasn't because of Dante that could have been bad…

I start a new job tomorrow so I will be telling you about it…

[August 31, 2050]

Hi mom, today we all started with our jobs. I met a few people there, but for some reason, they try to avoid me. I think that most of the ordinary people feel threatened in my presence. I talked with dad in the morning, and he dropped me at work. It was nice to have him there, it was like the old times when I had the first day of school.

I didn't mention it yesterday, but I have the power to freeze stuff, so I'm in the warehouse in charge of keeping the food from spoiling… I have a lot of free time, I think that going for a couple of minutes in the morning and in the evening should be enough.

Spencer still is going out to hunting monsters, he mentioned taking all of us to join him eventually to have more experience if we need to fight, so I'm looking forward to it. Because of this, I'm actually pretty happy with the job, the place is good for training, so I have been doing that.

If I touch something, I can freeze it pretty fast, as they are farther it takes more time, but I have a good feeling about it. Unfortunately, I can't create ice or things like that, I only control the temperature of the object around me. I feel that my progress is a lot faster than before, what they say about the conditions for training is entirely true. Having so much food and items to practice on instead of a limited supply of water bottles sure helps a lot.

I hope my social life gets better, maybe if I get better at fighting I might try the hunting teams, most of the people with power are there so they will not think of me as a threat.

I'll talk to you tomorrow, both trainings left me exhausted so I'll go sleep.

[September 02, 2050]

Hi mom sorry for not writing yesterday but I was busy and forgot about it…

Spencer got hurt and is currently on the hospital, Rose slept there. I wanted to stay there too, but it would be weird if I insisted too much, right? He was bitten by a snake, everyone says that he is going to be fine, but I have to see it with my own eyes before I relax.

I wish I could have been there to freeze that stupid snake before the attack, all I can do I train harder and officially join a hunting team. The job in the warehouse doesn't require much time anyway, and dad mentioned that there is a group working on that technology.

I will update you tomorrow I will go see him one more time before sleeping…

[September 03, 2050]

Hi mom, Spencer woke up and is recovering fine. He was discharged.

Today I found out that there is a lot more going on than I thought… I think that I might have been spending too much time training in the warehouse. But this place and in general any place is not as safe as most people think.

Only the people involved know about this, the ordinary people have a pretty normal life inside Green Shelter and doesn't get affected by what happens around.

For starters there is a group of beasts that want to attack from the forest, Dante told me that it was because of this that Spencer got involved in that fight, those snaked were chasing Dante and his friend Cai-Cai when they were spying on them.

Besides this a group was sent to investigate the party behind a series of kidnappings and got captured, I was requested to go together with G in a group that is going to save them, we are leaving tomorrow morning.

I hope everything goes well, it's a great responsibility, and if a group of experienced people was captured I don't know how much can I help but I will do everything on my hand to get them back …

I haven't spent to much time with dad. I was too worried about Spence… I'll have to make up to him when I come back from tomorrow's mission.

[September 04, 2050]

I came back early from the mission. Everything went well.

In the end, I didn't fight at all, Dante had everything under control. I'm not sure how to feel about it, I wanted to use my ability but not finding beasts means that no one gets hurt.

A little time after we left Green Shelter we were contacted by Dante… he had already rescued the scouting team that was taken.

He made me make an ice wall as cover to regain time. It was one of the most challenging things that I have ever done, and I think that he wanted me to practice while I was out. I created a layer of extreme cold, the wind flow did the rest as I captured the water drops in the air… it took me a lot of time, but I managed to make one, probably freezing a waterfall would have been easier for me.

We came back shortly after, Spencer appeared together with the medical team and helped one of the wounded, you know her, the reporter from the news that you used to see.

They are pretty beaten I hope they can recover well.

Hi mom, I know that I already wrote you today but something happened, and I'm worried…

I don't know the details of the situation but Spencer is going out in a mission again, he seems to be fully healed from his injury. From what he said, Dr. Harting left him in charge of a group that is going to the Aurora Clinic. Apparently, they are in troubles with a beast flood that came from the east… they will make a large-scale evacuation and come here.

He already left I didn't have the chance to ask him if I could go with him…

Hi mom, Spencer asked for reinforcements to help in the evacuation, and I will be going to help him together with Hope.

I'll write again when I get back. I hope that my power works as well as in the warehouse against those beasts…
