203 Go Back To Your Room

The hours passed by slowly as I healed Dante. G had fallen asleep on the chair next to his sister.

The room had a little couch where Hope and Hayley were "resting their eyes" too. Dante was already in good condition. Finally, a weak voice sounded on my head as I saw a blue cat eye slightly open.

'Spence~?'

'Hey, there buddy, just rest don't use your powers, okay?'

'Did we make it~?'

'Yes, we did it.'

'That's good… I'm gonna take a nap…'

The cat in front of me was already in the same state as before we get into the forest. So physically there were no problems left, but just as Rose, the overuse of his power was huge, so he needed to rest for a while.

From what I remember of that moment the resonance was almost entirely channeled through Dante's power, at least that's what I think it happened from the things I saw and most likely that was also the reason I wasn't in the same state as them.

Seeing that Dante was already fine and just needed to rest I looked around… Isabella left after bandaging me, she needed to take a look at other patients since most of the people that usually works here were at the field hospital.

I should be tired of everything that happened, but I'm not… and I feel powerless.

Most of the decisions I made lead to us winning the fight in the west and repelling the attack from the east but I don't feel like I won, I was protected and this time people I care about was hurt in the process.

1 day left…

Will I get another survive X months or years after that? If I receive that at least is like I'm getting a heads up that something is going to be wrong at that time, but is this how life is going to be now?

I sat on the bed next to Rose and caressed her hair.

The Alpha Cow is still out there and even if his army was weakened by the beasts that escape it is still a huge threat to our place.

I wonder what rank they are… the snake's power was completely broken. Is the cow going to be equally strong?

Outside it was still raining, I wonder if they are using the opportunity to save water. As I looked outside I got a bad feeling about this rain… I wonder if pinky and his people are going to be okay.

But that's not what was bugging me, I haven't seen rain like this since the storm that hit this place seven years ago. The sound, the smell, and the sight all are blocked by the water…

That cow most likely knows that too. I saw that the only thing left from my clothes was a half-burnt jacket, and I don't want to talk about the current status of my pants.

In a hurry, I bought the cheapest water-resistant clothes and a pair of boots from the store. I put my new clothes on and left the room after kissing Rose's forehead. I found Tusk near, but I have no idea what happened to my other weapons they are most likely lost somewhere in the swamp.

I walked through the corridor trying to get a glimpse of someone to ask, but most people were wounded and resting… finally, I got to the nurse station where one of the Dr. from the Aurora clinic was talking with Isabella.

"Spence you should be resting… go back to your room."

I got a flashback when I heard that… I miss those times.

"Sorry Isabella, but I need to talk with Blake or anyone with some authority are they in the Conference room?"

She knew that if I asked for that is was that it was likely that something was going to happen. I noticed that she was looking at my clothes and spear, but she didn't ask anything about it.

"They are most likely in the field hospital near the inner wall in the east… I don't know what is happening, but you are forbidden to fight in any circumstance, okay?"

"… I'll try. Thank you."

Isabella sighed, but she didn't fight because she knew that trying was the best she was going to get. I turned around and moved to the exit.

"You let a patient in that state leave that easily? He had severe burnt injuries!"

I heard the Dr. reprimand Isabella for letting me go. I could listen to Isabella trying to explain that I was a scout and if I need to speak with the high command meant that I have something important to say…

It worked, and the guy stopped bothering her. That is a good excuse, explaining the truth was hard to believe if they don't know about us.

As I turned on the corner and left their sight, I started to run. The bandages were rubbing against my raw skin, and it was pretty uncomfortable, luckily it was somewhat healed already, but if I didn't have pain resistance it would be hurting anyway.

The field hospital was composed of two building at the east almost next to the inner east gate. As soon as I saw them, I recognized them because of the auras inside… they were few people in the first one so it could be where they are meeting.

I was mistaken… This building wasn't empty.

This building was being used as a morgue, on the floor was a row of corpses covered with blankets, people with dark faces and people crying in their knees… I didn't have anything to do there so I went to the second building.

There the images were rougher. Dr. Rehn was with two more people trying to hold a guy writhing in pain trying to inject him something. The screams and moans from pain filled the place. Lost limbs and people crying, at least the people here are alive, but I don't know how many of them will survive or even if they want to.

I guy carrying bandages saw me in the entrance looking around.

"Are you acquaintances with a patient here?"

I hope not …

"No, I'm looking for Blake, Milo or anyone from the high command, I have intel for them…"

I added the last part when I remembered that it was the lie that Isabella used on the Doctor, when he heard the last part he answered right away.

"They are in the furniture store… well, it used to be a furniture store, you just need to cross the street."

"Thank you."

As I was about to leave, I saw Dr. Rehn and the other guys let go the man that now was sleeping. They finally could treat his wounds properly most likely it would have been better to take him to the hospital, but with the weather like this, it wasn't a good idea.

I crossed the street and knocked on the door of the furniture store.

I heard movements, and after a while, the door was opened.

"Spence? Oh my god, you look like sh*t."

"Good to see you too Zak, let me in."

Zak moved to let me pass, and I walked towards an illuminated area of the store. Leon and Milo were with some other team leaders.

"Spencer? You should be resting… how are Dante and Rose doing?"

"They should be alright, but they need to rest for a while, they used their powers too much."

"Good to hear it, what about you?"

"I will be fine when all of this is over. Where are Blake and Dr. Harting?"

"Blake is resting we are taking turns to rest, Dr. Harting is in one of the refuges for the morale of the normal people."

I nodded and asked the next question.

"Do you have scouts around?"

"Of course, but the last reports were almost meaningless no movements that they could see… well with this weather and at night, I doubt that they could see something even if it happens. Why are you here by the way?"

"That exact same reason, that Alpha is smart I heard that it tried to flank you and almost succeed, twice.

"Yeah, we fend one of them off until you and Dante used that weird ability and Pinky took care of the other attempt.'

He seemed to notice something.

"... what are you getting at?"

"The Alpha is smart Leon… if it was you attacking in this situation what would you do?"

Milo at his side understood what I was going at…

"Depending on the type of beast they have they might send a small group to attack an important objective to weaken us before the next fight… they could also try a full-scale attack while we are unprepared, but I don't think that will happen unless the effect of that ability you and Dante use on them is over."

"I don't think they are going to make a full-scale attack for now either, they must have seen Hayley and Blake powers already. A full attack with them on our side with this rain is suicide, but I also think that they might try a sneak attack …"
