"What a hassle," Lucian muttered, standing at the gate of the mansion and waving his hand as he watched a procession of carriages moving behind a luxurious one.
The merchant he had just spoken with was seated inside, having just departed after their conversation.
Lucian recalled their discussion, which had brought him to the realization that, contrary to his initial assessment, making this merchant his slave would be far more difficult than he had anticipated.
He had assumed the man was weak and would easily succumb to a binding contract, serving him as slave for eternity.
However, it soon became clear that the merchant was only complying with the count's orders because it was the count himself who had imposed the contract.
Had it been anyone else attempting to bind him, the merchant would likely have resorted to violence and could have easily attacked them, even if it meant bringing a whole army of mercenaries to confront them.
