CHAPTER EIGHT
9:30 am prompt, Cici came over and picked up Desi with the company's car. After she was done with the photo shoot, Desi went to school.
She had just finished her classes for the day when she saw her manager's car in front of the school gate.
"Kim, what are you doing here" Desi asked as she approached her.
"Picking you up" kim said.
"For what" Desi asked.
" To go shopping" Kim answered.
"Apnd why do l have to go?" Desi asked again.
"Because you have a gala tonight" Kim answered out of frustration.
"How come I don't know that I have a gala tonight" Desi asked in confusion.
Kim didn't know what to answer, because she knew she didn't inform her in time.
"well, now you know" she said as she rolled her eyes.
"Get into the car already" Kim said.
"I'm not getting into this car until you tell me why" Desi said with hands akimbo.
"OK get into the car first, I promise to tell you while we drive to the mall" Kim said in a pleading tune.
"Fair enough" Desi said and got into the car.
"Alright, spill" Desi said
"Well, the owner of starlights Entertainment Company is coming for the gala, therefore, all the A ranking models, actors and musicians are to be dolled up and the company has paid for it" Kim said.
"well, I'm not going" Desi said resolutely.
"My mom doesn't know about it, and as you know, she has my work schedule" Desi continued.
"Who would believe that the 'Runway Queen' who isn't afraid of anyone is actually afraid of her mom" Kim said as she laughed.
"careful! I don't want to die yet" Desi said. Kim was too distracted, that she wasn't driving carefully.
When they got to the mall they chatted while making their purchases, after that Kim dropped Desi off at her house.
"Try and talk to mom OK?" Kim said
"I'll try" Desi said
"I'll come pick you up by 7pm" Kim said as she zoomed off.
At the venue of the gala. A lot of celebrities were there already. Some were making their way down the red carpet.
The paparazzi were already taking pictures of them, while waiting for the latest gossip to feast on.
"Too bad, you don't have a date to walk on the red carpet with." Kim said to Desi.
They were both sitting inside their car. None wanted to enter yet. They were just watching other celebrities walk down the red carpet.
"I don't mind walking alone. Afterall, if I walk alone, I'll have all attention to myself.
Desi said with a smile.
Kim didn't know how else to refute, this girl was becoming more and more brazen with words!
"Isn't that Julie?" Kim asked, finally finding a way to continue the conversation.
"It is. That girl is something else. She keeps coming after me. Even when I don't have time for her." Desi said.
Kim narrowed her eyes, as a glint of anger passed through it.
"Alright, Lollipop, that our cue." Kim said as she speedily dragged Desi out of the car.
"The limelight is empty. Go and be the queen of it." Kim added, yet, again.
"Now arrange yourself young lady. We've got an entrance to make!"
Desi quickly arranged her hair, straightened her back, raised her shoulders, and her chin up. Like she had always done.
In Kim's eyes, Desi quickly transformed from a normal girl to a queen. The expression on her face said it all.
"your majesty, your kingdom awaits!" she announced with a bow.
Tonight, she was putting on a red A-lined dress. Lately, she had suddenly picked great interest in red dresses.
She stepped on the red carpet. All eyes focused on her. She walked gracefully on it. With a sweet smile plastered on her face.
The paparazzi even forgot to take a picture of her. They were all engrossed in watching her. They didn't want to miss out any part of this show.
Some even forgot to blink!
'plop!' one of the reporters dropped to the floor. "My goddess!" he screamed.
