On his way to the outskirts of the Darkness Dominion, Han Shuo has to cross the Death and Lightning Dominions. There were no transportation matrices available.
It was a long journey even for Han Shuo. After three months of travelling, they passed through Mirage City and Darkwater City. They entered the territory of the City of Gorging Clouds.
Throughout the three months of travel, Han Shuo and Rose had avoided the city centres as much as possible. When they crossed through Mirage City and Darkwater City, they had not entered the main cities, only the outlying towns and fortresses. Then, one day, they finally entered the territory of the most powerful city in the Darkness Dominion - the City of Gorging Clouds.
But unlike before, Han Shuo did not lead Rose through streets far from the city, but straight to it.
"Huh? Why don't you avoid the city?" Rose was a little surprised when she noticed Han Shuo's decision. She asked, "Are you planning to enter the City of Gorging Clouds?"
Han Shuo and Rose had been travelling alone for the past three months. Rose seemed to be in a better mood during the journey. She was no longer cold and silent towards Han Shuo. Han Shuo even noticed that she became more talkative when they were in the City of Shadows. Perhaps it had something to do with her innate dislike of being in a populated area.
Although Felder was the person who organised a sneak attack against Han Shuo on his journey to the Soaring Cloud Mountain Range, the person who sponsored the attack the most was Lakrisen of the Broadhurst family. The House of Broadhurst was the most powerful family clan in the City of Gorging Clouds. Their patriarch, Yarus, was the City Lord of the city. Not only had Lakrisen failed to assassinate Han Shuo, but three of his experts had been killed by Han Shuo instead.
Han Shuo doubted that Lakrisen would simply forget this grudge!
Han Shuo wanted to enter the City of Gorging Clouds and find out the situation there. And if the opportunity presented itself, Han Shuo would take the risk and eliminate Lakrisen, thus removing this great danger that loomed over his House of Han.
"Yes, I want to check out the city of Gorging Clouds and see how strong they are," Han Shuo replied after nodding.
Rose was still unaware of the assassins' identities, so she was rather perplexed by Han Shuo's decision. She replied, "As the most powerful city in the Darkness Dominion, the City of Gorging Clouds is far more powerful than the City of Shadows. The House of Broadhurst is also the oldest family clan in the Darkness Dominion. Not only do they have countless powerful experts, but they are also very united!"
"After the House of Lavers left the City of Shadows, they all moved to the City of Gorging Clouds. Hehehe, we took over their resources and properties in the City of Shadows, and I'm sure the Lavers family will hold a grudge against us for that. I wonder how they are doing in the City of Gorging Clouds," Han Shuo said with a faint smile. "Come, let's go and have a look!"
Rose was always obedient to Han Shuo's orders. She followed Han Shuo into the city without complaint.
After travelling for half a month, Han Shuo and Rose arrived at the gates of the City of Gorging Clouds. The grand gates were made of dark, shiny, stony material. Tall and ominous, they stood on either side of the gate, guarded by numerous solemn and stern divine guards.
Above the imposing gates, several oversized crystal cannons pointed menacingly to the horizon. They glittered as if a million starlights were packed into them. Awe and fear would fall upon all who gazed upon them.
"These crystal cannons are powered by the arrays of energy towers behind them. They are so powerful that even an average Highgod would have trouble withstanding a blast, while lowgods would be instantly vaporised!" Rose explained quietly when she noticed Han Shuo's eyes lingering on the crystal cannons.
"This is indeed no ordinary city. Come on, let's get going. "After taking a moment to observe the city from the outside, Han Shuo and Rose paid the entrance fees and entered the City of Gorging Clouds.
After entering the city, Han Shuo and Rose spent some time walking around. Han Shuo noticed that the defences of the City of Gorging Clouds were indeed much stronger than those of the City of Shadows. There were countless crystal cannons and defence towers that relied on energy crystals. Squads of steady and calm divine guards patrolled the streets constantly.
Rose hid her silver hair and Han Shuo had changed his appearance slightly. He believed that no one in the City of Gorging Clouds would recognise them. Han Shuo then went over to a group of divine guards who were passing by and asked, "Excuse me, do you know where the Lavers Family is?"
Lavers family?" the divine guard of the City of Gorging Clouds stared blankly at the few pieces of black crystal coins Han Shuo placed in his hand for a moment. Then he turned to his comrade and asked, "Is there a Lavers family in the city?"
"Yes, there is. Recently, a family clan named Lavers moved here from the City of Shadows. I have heard that a woman from that family named Donna will be married to Lord Lakrisen's son in a few days. Hehehe, this means that the House of Broadhurst will soon gain another vassal family clan!" another divine guard interrupted. He then said to Han Shuo, "This Lavers family lives on the south side of the city!
"Thank you!" Han Shuo replied before leaving the group with Rose.
Han Shuo had not expected such a thing to happen to Donna. Although Han Shuo had a bad history with the House of Lavers, he always remained grateful to Donna. Han Shuo believed that Donna had nothing to do with Felder's attempt to assassinate him.
Now, when Han Shuo heard that Donna was going to marry Lakrisen's son, for some reason, Han Shuo didn't feel comfortable with the thought.
After getting the information he needed, Han Shuo and Rose quietly travelled to the southern region of the city. Since Han Shuo did not want to reveal his identity and strength in this foreign land, with divine guards patrolling every corner of the streets, he could not travel too fast. It took him a day and half a night to reach the southern region and locate the Laver Residence.
Compared to their previous residence in the City of Shadows, the current Lavers Residence was of much inferior quality. The southern region wasn't a wealthy district of the City of Gorging Clouds. Their mansion only had a few structures that seemed to be poorly maintained. Han Shuo felt somewhat apologetic when he saw the scene.
Without any particularly strong defences, Han Shuo's demon generals had successfully entered the residence. Under the cover of night, the demon generals, refined from Highgod souls, were able to hide better. They managed to explore the entire Laver Residence without alerting a single soul.
Soon enough, one of the demon generals located Donna in a gymnasium. She had deployed a barrier of darkness but it couldn't block Han Shuo's demon general as she wasn't a Highgod
Donna was dressed in an emerald green combat suit and wearing crannied brows. She seemed rather miserable and lacked the elation of a bride-to-be. Dolores was with her. He was acting as her living punchbag and was bombarded with attacks powerful enough to cause pain but not enough to cause serious injuries. Every inch of his body had been repeatedly pounded by Donna's fists. He was beaten black and blue and in immense agony.
<i >Bam! Dolores was sent flying backward and he slammed his back onto the wall of the gymnasium.
"Stop!" Dolores raised his hands and begged for mercy, "Please, that's enough. It's very late already and I need to rest. No more fights!"
"Again!" replied Donna. She began to walk furiously towards Dolores.
"Elder Sister, I know you're not in a good mood, but you can't take all your anger out on me like this every day!" Dolores shouted, "This latest incident has nothing to do with me. Lord Patriarch took me there because I'm familiar with the area! Besides, the boy killed our uncle and took everything we had in the City of Shadows. Is it wrong for us to take revenge on him? Sister Donna, you are also a member of the Laver family. Can't you understand the situation?"
"If it wasn't for your brother Doloxis, Bryan wouldn't have turned against our family in the first place, and none of this shitstorm would have happened!" Donna shouted angrily, "Now our House of Lavers has fallen into this shithole and I'm forced to marry this imbecile. Why? Why do I have to put up with this?"
As Donna shouted, she lunged at Dolores and began another round of punches and kicks.
Dolores dared not fight back and allowed Donna to attack him. When Donna finally stopped punching, as if tired, Dolores shouted, "Don't ask me. Ask Lord Patriarch instead. I'm not qualified to answer that!" As soon as he finished those words, Dolores limped quickly out of the gymnasium.
Donna turned exhausted as soon as Dolores left, as if fatigue had suddenly overcome her.
"What's the point? The interests of the family come before all else. I was taught that when I was young. Am I going to watch the Lavers family go down the path of destruction?" muttered Donna helplessly. She was physically and emotionally exhausted.
"Come on, hit me!" a voice suddenly sounded from the main entrance of the gymnasium. Shortly afterwards, all the doors and windows closed automatically. Several layers of bizarre boundaries formed inside the gym. No sound could penetrate the boundaries.
Donna seemed confused for a moment before she started laughing. She stared at the person who appeared before her without warning and mumbled to herself, "I must have been too stressed, so much so that I'm now hallucinating!"
"Elder sister Donna, you aren't hallucinating. It's really me!" Han Shuo's heart ached when he saw Donna in this state now. He wondered, <i >is this the same Donna who could remain calm and collected no matter what happens?
The poised and regal demeanor that Donna carried when she arrived on Profound Continent was nowhere to be seen. The disheartened and dispirited Donna standing before Han Shuo right then looked like another person to him.
"Though it's just a hallucination, I can make do with it!" shouted Donna suddenly and she charged at Han Shuo. She started punching and kicking Han Shuo wildly while shouting, "Why? Why fight my family out of all people? Why did you kill my uncle? Why did you have to destroy everything my Lavers Family had? Have I ever done anything wrong to you? Tell me! Why? Why... "
Donna hit Han Shuo repeatedly as she screamed maniacally.
After a while, Donna, who was beside herself with grief, suddenly noticed that every punch she threw hit something that felt solid and very real. She suddenly stopped attacking and looked at Han Shuo in confusion. Her eyes slowly became bright and clear. After a long time, Donna exclaimed in surprise, "It's, it's really you? How is that possible?! How are you here?"
"I happened to be travelling past this place and thought I might as well pay you a visit!" replied Han Shuo as he forced a smile.
Donna stared deeply at Han Shuo for a dozen seconds and suddenly threw herself into Han Shuo's chest. She began to cry as she embraced Han Shuo.
