When the dozens of Lowgods of various strengths and that Early-stage Midgod divine guard arrived, an austere and desolate aura immediately filled the area. That grave and stern divine guard who took the lead was particularly terrifying. Even if he did not unleash his Domain of Divinity or show his anger, the mere furrow of his brow was enough to intimidate even the toughest of men.
Han Shuo's expanded consciousness discovered that it wasn't just the dozens of divine guards who had come out at the old man's loud whistle. There were men and women, young and old, coming out of several other buildings. Some of them were Lowgods, some were Basegods, and a few of them were just Demigods.
After taking a few glances around, Han Shuo concluded that these people had recently arrived from other material planes. They were in other buildings and came to look when they heard the noises.
"What's wrong with buying on credit? Contrary to Han Shuo's expectations, even when confronted with such a formidable group of experts, the young man, only a Mid-stage Lowgod, even covered in cuts and bruises, did not retreat in fear. On the contrary, there was a murderous look in his eyes, as if he wanted to fight to the death.
The old man shook his head and sighed. He feigned pity as he said, "What a pitiful fellow. His brains have been beaten out of his skull!"
"Seize him!" the leading divine guard said coldly, gesturing with his hand.
The two Lowgods behind him rushed forward at lightning speed. Dark radiance emanated from the spears in their hands.
The blue eyes of the young man who wanted to buy on credit were suddenly filled with madness as he screamed loudly like an enraged beast. The energy of destruction erupted from his body as he charged at the divine guards who came to arrest him. He ran wild.
Han Shuo found people with this kind of zeal and fearlessness in the face of death very admirable. Unfortunately, since this person was so badly injured, exerting such force under such conditions would only aggravate his injuries.
Suddenly, halfway forward, the young man stumbled and fell to the ground. He was instantly unconscious.
Gods were not invulnerable to injury. Given his injuries, it was incredible that he was still able to walk. And now, to suddenly exert himself, it would be a miracle if he didn't collapse!
The two divine guards, who were about to punish the young man as a lesson to the watching crowd, stared blankly as the young man suddenly fainted. They turned their gaze to the Midgod, seeking his instruction.
"Seize him. Those who do not behave must be locked up and given a lesson in the rules!" the leading divine guard groaned coldly.
The two divine guards, hearing the order, showed no hesitation. They walked straight up to the collapsed young man, pulled him up and dragged him away.
"Hold on!" Han Shuo shouted.
The two divine guards were once again startled and their eyes turned back to their commander. However, their commander did not utter a word, but simply stared at Han Shuo with his cold eyes, as if waiting for Han Shuo's explanation.
"You must be the local chief of the divine guards, Lord Dolores?" Han Shuo smiled and asked in a worldly manner.
The chief was astonished. Only now did he begin to size Han Shuo up carefully and asked, "Aren't you a newcomer? How did you know my name?"
"Elder Sister Donna mentioned to me that if I got into trouble here, I could come to you for help!" Han Shuo said calmly.
Dolores' expression softened as soon as Han Shuo mentioned Donna. He asked, "What is your name? Where are you from?"
"Bryan, from the Profound Continent!" Han Shuo replied smiling. Before coming over, Donna had told him that Dolores was a younger generation of her family clan who had been assigned to this place to be tempered and gain experience. She also told Han Shuo that she would inform Dolores in advance and that he had nothing to worry about.
After hearing Han Shuo's reply, Dolores nodded his head. It seemed that Donna had definitely informed him about Han Shuo. To proceed, Dolores looked around and coldly instructed, "Those who have nothing to do here, go away!
The crowd that had gathered to watch the drama quickly dispersed. Moments later, only the divine guards, the old man in charge of processing the divine tablets, Han Shuo, and the unconscious young man remained.
"My elder cousin told me about you. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. I will help you with anything I can!" Dolores said to Han Shuo after the crowd had dispersed.
"This guy is quite brave. If you can avoid making things difficult for him, please do so!" Han Shuo suggested to Dolores in an appropriate manner while pointing at the young Edict of Destruction cultivator on the ground. This young man's behaviour of recklessly charging forward even though the odds were completely against him had quite impressed Han Shuo.
"Don't worry!" Dolores wore a rather strange expression, as if he couldn't understand why Han Shuo was pleading for leniency for this random newcomer who didn't know how to follow the rules. But since Donna had instructed him to assist Han Shuo, and such a matter was far from trivial, he casually agreed to the request.
Han Shuo put on a smile, pointed at the old man and asked, "One more thing, I heard from elder sister Donna that a divine tablet can only be completed with fifty blue crystal coins. But why is he asking me for eighty?"
"Erm, I didn't realise you were on the same side. My apologies! My apologies," the old man bowed and humbly apologised. His attitude was completely reversed. However, when Han Shuo looked at him closely, he noticed that the old man did not show a trace of fear.
"This is about different people getting different prices!" for some reason, Dolores' grave and stern face seemed somewhat uncomfortable. Soon after, he glared at the old man and instructed, "Jeff, waive the processing fees for his divine tablet!"
"Yes! Yes!" the old man called Jeff hastily agreed. But he did not seem nervous at all.
Meanwhile, the divine guards beside Dolores all had strange expressions on their faces. Some of them were even laughing secretly.
Han Shuo had clearly taken in the expressions of everyone around him.
He finally understood what was going on - Dolores had to be the mastermind behind the scam. Otherwise, the old man would have shown at least a trace of fear. This also explained why Dolores looked even more embarrassed than Jeff after Han Shuo had said those words!
"No need for an exemption.
It's only fifty blue crystal coins. I can afford it!" Having figured it out, Han Shuo showed no intention of delving any further. He pulled out a purple crystal coin and handed it to Jeff. Then he pointed at the young man collapsed on the ground and said, "One purple crystal coin. I'll also pay for this guy's divine plate!"
Jeff did not immediately accept the purple crystal coin.
He secretly looked towards Dolores, as if asking for instructions. It was only when he saw Dolores nod that he accepted the coin and answered in the affirmative.
"When your divine tablet is complete, you may travel north.
After travelling for about half a month, you will reach the City of Shadows. The City of Shadows is one of the seven grand cities of the Domain of Darkness. Our House of Lavers is located in the City of Shadows. Barring any unexpected business, my elder cousin will be in the city. Be sure to look for her when you arrive in the City of Shadows. She will help you settle in," Dolores thought for a moment after pointing at Jeff and said to Han Shuo. Han Shuo nodded after hearing Dolores' words.
"Relax.
As the local divine guard chief, I'm quite influential in this valley. You may leave as soon as your divine tablet is finished. No one will cause you any trouble!" Dolores continued.
"Thank you very much!"
Han Shuo knew that newcomers to this valley would be cheated and harassed. Without crystal coins, those who wished to obtain a divine tablet would have to serve in the mine within the valley for a few years. Even those from middle and high material planes who might be in possession of crystal coins would face all sorts of tricks until some of their possessions were squeezed out.
Han Shuo was very lucky that Donna had given Dolores instructions beforehand. Otherwise, it would have been almost impossible for him to leave the valley, especially with such ease.
Finally, before he left, Dolores said to Han Shuo, "If you run into any problems in the valley, just find me. I will help you solve anything within my power!" Dolores led his men away.
As Dolores and his party left, Old Jeff bowed and respectfully invited Han Shuo into the building. He said, "Please come in. I will complete your divine tablet as soon as possible. Haha, why didn't you tell me that you knew Lord Dolores? If I had known earlier that you were one of us, we could have avoided all the misunderstandings!
"I was going to tell you, but that black and blue man came out of nowhere. I couldn't do it in time!"
Han Shuo smiled insincerely and pretended to be polite to Jeff. Han Shuo understood that a character like Jeff was difficult to deal with, and it would be very hard to guard against any tricks this old and cunning fellow might play behind his back. Since Han Shuo had just left the boat and did not want to argue with him, he simply played along instead of mocking him.
The procedure for obtaining a divine tablet required a test of the applicant's realm and origin, and a series of complicated procedures. However, with Jeff's kind assistance, Han Shuo completed the procedures very quickly and made off with his divine tablet.
The young man who had lost consciousness was also awakened by Jeff. When he woke up, although confused, he still wanted to put up a fight. But when he heard Jeff say that he would help him get a Divine Tablet, he quickly calmed down.
Akley. A Mid-stage Lowgod God of Destruction. Originally from the Blue Ocean Continent.
Han Shuo learned some information about him when they were in the process of getting a divine tablet.
"Akley, this is your divine tablet. Keep it safe and don't lose it.
Wherever you go, a divine tablet is your identification. Without one, you will find yourself in a lot of trouble!" Jeff warned as he handed the divine tablet to Akley.
"Pff, I don't need your reminder. I will pay you back when I have the money!" Akley impatiently took the divine tablet. It seemed that he was still unaware that Han Shuo had paid for him.
"No need for that. He paid the crystal coins for you and even pleaded for leniency. Otherwise, you would have been locked up by now!" Jeff said with a slight groan. If it wasn't for Han Shuo, Akley might not have been able to enter the building.
Akley was stunned after hearing Jeff's words and began to carefully size up Han Shuo. After a long time, he muttered, "What a coincidence, I'm missing an assistant!" Akley's eyes lit up as he looked at Han Shuo. He asked excitedly, "Friend, do you want to become filthy rich?"
"Not interested!" Han Shuo replied curtly.
"Erm... I know my appearance isn't very convincing right now, but I know a place where we can get very rich. It's true. I'm in need of an assistant. I'm now officially inviting you to join me!"
