After a bright flash of light, the scene around them changed.
Despite trying to prepare himself mentally, seeing the surroundings he knew so well, Han Shuo could not suppress the excitement in his heart. Immediately, he howled with laughter at the top of his lungs and shouted, "I'm back!"
Directly beneath his feet was an interplanar transportation matrix. Off to the side were several storage rooms. Outside the wide open doors was a sky that remained murky dark throughout the year. The air was filled with an intense element of death, the ground covered with bones as white as snow.
There's no doubt about it, this is the cemetery of death!
Sanguis, Jasper, Hemanna and Sylph stepped down from the interplanar transportation matrix. They marvelled and looked around curiously.
"Master, this is your home world?" Sanguis asked as he looked down at the floor of bones, tasting the scent in the air.
"Yes. It's just that this place is completely surrounded by a boundary. The true appearance of this world lies outside the boundary," Han Shuo replied. After thinking it over, he instructed, "I have no idea how long I have been away from this world. I need to find out the current situation on the Profound Continent. The few of you will stay here for now. I will come back for all of you once I have familiarised myself with this place.
The few had no complaints about Han Shuo's words. They had long noticed that Han Shuo was excited and knew that he was desperate to understand the changes after he left.
After informing Jasper and the others of the things they needed to be aware of, Han Shuo had them leave the interplanar transport matrix. He returned to the centre of the transportation matrix and activated it in short-range mode. With a flash of light, Han Shuo disappeared from the Cemetery of Death and arrived at the secret underground chamber dug by the Earth Elite Zombie deep beneath the City Lord's mansion in Brettel City.
Han Shuo stepped out of the chamber and expanded his consciousness. The entire scene of Brettel City was projected into his mind.
Although Han Shuo had no idea how long he'd been gone, based on his preliminary observation, Brettel City had obviously become even more prosperous and wealthy compared to when he left.
With a thought, Han Shuo suddenly appeared in the meeting hall at the centre of the City Lord's mansion.
Dorcas, Jack, Dick, Faulke, Helen Tina and others were in the middle of a heated discussion in the conference hall when a streak of strange light suddenly flashed through. A majestic figure then materialised in the centre of the meeting hall.
The leaders of Brettel City were startled and dumbfounded. Each and every one of them stared at Han Shuo standing in the middle of the room in disbelief. The heated discussion abruptly stopped.
""An assassin! Seize him!" a young guard standing near the door suddenly shouted as he bravely charged at Han Shuo.
Two shadows shot out of nowhere. They were none other than Elizabeth and Bollands. The two of them had been hiding all this time. As soon as they sensed a mighty energy emanating from the meeting hall, they immediately flew out of hiding and launched themselves at Han Shuo.
Halfway through their attack, however, they clearly recognised who the 'assassin' was, and pulled back hard. They emotionally kowtowed to Han Shuo. For a moment, Han Shuo did not know what to say as he watched the two trembling to their toes.
When the guard, whom Han Shuo didn't recognise, saw both Elizabeth and Bollands suddenly kneeling before Han Shuo, he thought they had been killed. His heart trembled. But even though he knew that he would most likely die, he did not retreat, but continued to run towards Han Shuo with his sword glowing with silver light.
"Stop!" Suddenly, all the leaders of Brettel City in the hall came to their senses and shouted at the same time.
This guard was startled by their sudden command. Before he could even react, Elizabeth's lightning fast hands had grabbed him and brought him to his knees in front of Han Shuo.
"Are you blind or something? How dare you attack the City Lord? Don't you want to live anymore?" Elizabeth glared and scolded the guard.
The guard seemed to have a short circuit in his brain for a moment. At a loss, he said, "The City Lord? I thought Brettel City didn't have a City Lord?" But when he saw the awe in Elizabeth and Bollands' eyes, as if struck by a sudden memory, his body trembled. His voice trembling slightly, he pleaded, "Please forgive me, my Lord! Please forgive me, my lord!"
Han Shuo waved his hand without speaking. He scanned every single person in the meeting hall, starting with Jack and ending with Faulke. He discovered that there had indeed been some changes to these people, but not too much.
Jack, the big fatty one, now had a moustache. He looked much more mature than before, and of course he had the air of someone in a high position. Dorcas looked as serious and solemn as ever. The unflinching determination written on his face showed the long and numerous hardships he had endured. Helen Tina still looked beautiful and charming. She looked at Han Shuo with fiery eyes, as if she wanted to melt him...
After glancing at each of them, Han Shuo heaved a sigh of relief, knowing that he hadn't been away for too long.
Truth be told, Han Shuo had been quite scared ever since he returned to the Profound Continent. Back in the space-time discontinuity zone, Han Shuo had felt that space-time was in disarray and he had no sense of time passing. Moreover, he was deeply afraid that time in the Abyss Realm would be much slower than on the Profound Continent.
If there was a large discrepancy in the speed of time between the two material planes, there was a possibility that when he returned to the Profound Continent, he would find that all the people he knew had died of old age. That would be an unimaginable blow to him.
Judging from the appearance of these people, although there had been some changes, it seemed that not too much time had passed. His heart was truly relieved.
"How long have I been gone?" Han Shuo took the lead in speaking as the group looked at him emotionally and excitedly.
"Five years! Another five years! You joker, where on earth have you been?" Jack shrieked. His chubby body ran towards Han Shuo before punching Han Shuo's chest violently with his fists. He seemed to be expressing his excitement at meeting Han Shuo again after such a long time.
Although the others were also incredibly emotional, they were only showing it through their eyes and facial expressions. They did not show their feelings physically like Jack did. After all, Jack and Han Shuo had known each other since the Babylon Academy of Magic and Strength. Their relationship was much deeper and more special compared to the others.
Helen Tina, this beautiful magus who already considered herself to be Han Shuo's woman, although she was also close to Han Shuo, she was too shy to throw herself into Han Shuo's embrace in front of the crowd. Therefore, she only expressed her feelings to Han Shuo with her bright, fiery eyes.
"Five years, luckily it's only five years. Hahaha," Han Shuo said laughing as he let Jack pound on his chest.
"Only five years? How many five years are there in a lifetime? You scoundrel, how could you give us such a big responsibility when you couldn't care less and disappeared - for several years! How outrageous!" After a short while, Jack had no choice but to stop venting his emotions by hitting Han Shuo as his chubby hands began to hurt. He grumbled as he glared at Han Shuo.
Suddenly, Han Shuo noticed two figures flying by at high speed from a distance.
The two figures arrived at the conference hall in the blink of an eye. Unexpectedly, they were the Emperor of Flames and Stratholme, the old monster. When they saw Han Shuo, the two of them seemed more astonished than Han Shuo. They both stared at Han Shuo in disbelief.
"I thought you were killed by that tribal king of the soul race?" Han Shuo and Stratholme said the same words at the same time as they stared at each other. Soon after, they both burst out laughing.
"Where is my son? Where have you taken my son?" the Emperor of the Flames began to ask Han Shuo in her cunning voice.
Han Shuo was stunned. Forcing a smile, he looked at the no-nonsense Emperor of Flames and the handsome looking Stratholme and asked, "How come you two are here? What happened after I left?"
"It's a long story," said Stratholme, the old monster, smiling. He glanced at the crowd gathered in the meeting hall before continuing, "Three years ago, a war broke out that spanned the entire Profound Continent. Some very interesting things have happened in those few years. With certain forces fanning the flames behind the scenes, the entire continent is now engulfed in war. It's hard to explain it all in a nutshell."
"Oi, youngster, hurry up and tell me, where is my son?" the Emperor of the Flames shouted again, worried about the Fire Elite Zombie.
Considering the fact that this brutal Flame Emperor was in Brettel City, Han Shuo deduced that she must have given Brettel City a lot of help. Five years ago, the Emperor of Flames was a demigod existence. Five years later, nothing had changed. However, it wouldn't be the same for the Fire Elite Zombie, who was currently digesting the fire element energy of a Lowgod Once he successfully digested Cecrop's energy, his strength would surely surpass that of a fifth-rank Flame Emperor.
"He's cultivating. It will be some time before he can see you," Han Shuo looked at the shrewd middle-aged woman with a smile on his face after a short pause, "The next time you meet him, you will see how much he has changed. It will surely be beyond your imagination!"
"Hmph! Deliberately mysterious. I'll go back first. Take good care of the boy for me." The Emperor of Flames rushed into the meeting hall to protect these leaders. When she saw that the intruder was Han Shuo, she lost interest and left at high speed after finishing those words.
From the appearance of Elizabeth and Bollands, as well as the arrival of Stratholme and the Emperor of the Flames, who seemed to be protecting themselves from something, Han Shuo knew that Brettel City probably wasn't as safe and secure as he had imagined.
"Stratholme, tell me about the current situation," Han Shuo knitted his brows and asked the old monster.
