Evolution: Harbinger of Chaos

Daniel was born a normal boy, to a normal family, in a normal world. He grew up to be very handsome–almost too good-looking for a boy infact–and was intelligent enough to stand out among his pairs. Then, at the age of eight, he suddenly developed rare cognitive disorder that made him blind to faces. From then on, he was not so normal anymore. He was treated as an oddity by everyone, and was a constant target for bullying and extortion. But that was not the end of it... The world had more in store for him. On the year he was to turn sixteen, he had a nightmare on a random night. The next night, he had the nightmare again. And the night after, he had it again. And again. And again. And then, Daniel learned that the world was not normal either.

Prologue

What exactly made a person human? The imperfect shell they were born into? Or the soul that resided within it?

Why did human cells grow, only to die?

Why did people cling to dreams, even in nightmares?

These were some of the questions I was left to ponder. Perhaps He knew I would never find the answers to them, or He actually hoped I would...

Whichever the case, I failed.

I never tried at all.

I was too scared to go outside, to see the world out there... to be Human.

I was scared of remembering the past, and horrified just imagining what awaited in the future.

No matter what, I could not do it. I could not be human.

Why was he trying so hard to make me something I was not, anyway?

I left doing that to the other one.

He experienced the love of parents towards their offspring, ate the things they called food. He laughed at times and cried at others.

He grew and learned... He was human.

But was he really human?

He was me, afterall, and I, him.

We were the same. Body and soul. We may have been formed by different divinities, but we were the same entity. My destiny was his, and his mine.

Ah... Yes. It was time to—

"Wake up Daniel!"

"Wh–what?"

An aged woman stared down at me. I thought she wore a frown of both annoyance and concern on her face, but I could not be sure.

The laughing voices of children reached my ears.

I veered around, observing each of them.

"Daniel? Are you okay?"

We are in a classroom, I realized, I'm at school.

But it was supposed to be Saturday, right? The weekend? I was supposed to be...to be...today was the day I...

What was I supposed to be doing again?

How did I get here?

Confusion and fear stirred within my guts.

Why was I at school? Who were all these people? My classmates? Why did they all look the same?

"Daniel?"

I fixed my gaze on the unfamiliar woman, swallowed down in apprehension, then cautiously said:

"Y–yes! Miss... I'm sorry... Who are you, M–miss?"

And we are off! I hope it's an enjoyable ride!
