Who Was The Target?

"......." hug the tree? Renata stared at the maid who was looking crazy and looked away.

Her father was already gone and the sky was clear. She wanted to lay there and do nothing. How perfect would it be?

To spend time without worrying if she would be beaten or punished for things she had not done so far.

She sat near the tree and stared at the sky. It was a leisure time that she had for the first time in her past two lives.

"My lady, would you like to have some cake while enjoying the sun." Renata wanted to tell that she just had breakfast but how many times in her life had she been given the chance to eat freshly baked cakes that were not moulding!

"That would be great, thank you!" she nodded her head as she left from there.

"Are you lady Penelope?'' Soon a knight came running towards them. He had a slight layer of sweat on his face and his voice was urgent, surprising Penny who nodded her head slightly unsure why he was asking for her.

"His majesty has called for you a long ago but it took me a long time to find you. You should hurry if you do not want to get scolded." he replied with a look of authority in his eyes as he stared at the woman with an intimidating tone.

He was sure she would shiver when it came to his majesty and it happened. Penny panicked as she looked around for the maid.

Penny did not know when she would return so she did not want to leave Renata alone who was staring at the knight with confusion.

In the end, Renata smiled brightly like an innocent kid she was for the world,

"Penny, you should not worry about me. I am not going anywhere and the other maid will return soon. My father must have been angry and his face must have been matching his red shirt he was wearing today. Right, sir knight?" The knight looked a bit confused but he nodded his head nonetheless.

"See, you should go!" she nudged the confused nanny a bit and finally Penny sighed.

"Alright, but do not leave from here. I will be back soon… hopefully." she patted the shoulder of the girl as if she was going on a war and left from there.

"Why don't you guide her where my father is and guard me for the meantime, sir knight?" she asked in a sweet voice as she spread her charm.

The knight stammered, he felt pressured but cleared his throat as he replied,

"His majesty had asked me to escort the lady. I apologize princess but I can not go against his command." he replied with a professional rigid voice and blank face but Renata's smile only widened as she nodded her head.

"There is nothing we could do then." She laid back on the grass and closed her eyes as if she was going to take a nap.

The man took a silent breath of relief and left with Penny and soon their back disappeared completely.

"Tsk! My father hates red. He was wearing his signature white shirt.'' she muttered as she kept her eyes alert for every possible sound.

She knew that it was a trap but she was curious to know what her opponent was and what she wanted.

Since she was in the limelight, she was sure they could not hurt her physically and her father was not behind it since he would have planned it better. Then who?

1 minute, 2 minute, 5 minutes, it took fifteen minutes when the maid returned with the cake she had promised.

"My lady, are you asleep?" Renata stood up abruptly and looked around. It would have been enough time for the attackers to trap her but nothing had happened.

Just as she was repeating the scenario in her mind, her eyes widened.

"Where is his majesty? I want to see him now." She held the dress of the maid and shook it hard.

Her eyes filled with urgency as she panicked and looked around.

"Oh, lady. His majesty is a bit busy. Do you need any help? You can tell me." she offered softly but it only made her further unnerved.

She ran towards the direction where her father had gone before and followed his footsteps.

It was not difficult to find him since she knew that he would be back to his dark study room that looked ominous.

She would have never gone there if not for the girl. She was sure Penny was in trouble because of her. No! She was not attached to her. She just didn't want to owe her.

"My lady, you can not run like that! My lady.. Wait for me." she had taken the benefit of surprise but soon the maid would reach closer to her.

Just as she had thought that she reached the demon. Two knights blocked her way and stared hard at her.

"Princess, his majesty is busy and he had ordered us to not let anyone in. if you need something…" her sharp eyes stunned the man who had thought that she was just a baby due to her small stature.

"I am not anymore. I am your future mistress! So, make sure that you want to be in my good books or not!" her cold and demanding voice was no less than her father when she looked at them and asked them to open the door.

"My lady, you are finally here!" The maid took a few deep breaths. She never knew kids this small can run so fast!

"Did you not hear me? Open the door!"

"What is all this commotion about?"
