Chapter 4

Evie smiled at the beautiful memories, lost in her thoughts, which was the main reason that she missed the Wolf looking at her so lovingly as if he were a human with feelings.

Evie turned towards him and grinned goofily. 'Well, I'm not very nice am I?', she asked. 'I was supposed to tend to you and here I am thinking about how I met Leo and how I want to marry him and how much I love him.'

Evie kept on rambling and again she didn't notice how the Wolf bared his teeth at the mention of Leo.

Evie finally stood up dusting her dress, the breeze blowing her hair. The Wolf stood along with her. Evie stared at the now dry blood on the Wolf's leg. She felt guilty that she had forgotten about it being injured.

Looking down at him, she said, 'Wait here. I'll be right back.'

With that, she faced the village and started walking towards it.

As Evie walked closer, she was hit by a sudden wish. She realized she didn't want anyone to discover the Wolf. She wanted him for herself. She quickly hid behind a hut.

There were a few people around the bonfire now and her Father was still sitting there so there was a higher chance that she won't be spotted.

She quickly ran to the back of a second hut. She still wasn't caught. Adrenaline coursed through her blood as she ran behind yet another hut.

She hadn't done anything like this since she came of age. She had forgotten what it was like to be a child; free of all the restrictions and no one to criticize you on anything you do.

She looked up and saw her hut just ahead. Just one hut cross and she would be inside.

Suddenly she felt herself get grabbed by the shoulder from behind. She shrieked loudly surprised but a hand lapped on her mouth cutting her.

Her instinctual reaction was to elbow her attacker in the stomach and she did just that just to have her elbow cupped. It was as if her attacker knew she would do that.

She was panicking now and thinking about what to do next when a similar fragrance penetrated her nostrils. The smell of burning wood and pinecones. The smell that made all her worries wash away.

She leaned back against Leo. He let her go and she turned around to see his mischievously smiling face and she smiled back.
