Prologue, Giant and An Average Day

The giant ran with a giddy grin, a pile of pure gold in his grasp. He stopped and lay down. He gently put the gold in front of the city halls. The citizens cheered and praised him for his kindness.

The giant smiled.

Days passed as the giant watched over the city, the citizen's eyes becoming bored, the previous gold running out. The giant smiled while the citizens clicked their tongues.

The giant wondered why, but he kept smiling. He was intrigued by the presence he had received.

And then a pile of giants attacked the land. The friendly one stood in their path. The smaller titans shook as the Giant readied a slow but deadly kick.

They were scared to move, obliterating them but releasing an ocean of pressure, but the steam cracked the walls.

"Monster…" The town called him before he walked away…

A breeze blew by, making the trees make a whoosh sound, and the old and dandy lamps flickered, lighting up an oak bench where a boy stood with a book in his hand.

He flipped page after page, making the wide grin almost drop off his face. He was struggling to hold it in, but without realizing his hands started shaking with his mouth. But suddenly, his face grimaced as he stood on the last page.

"A cliffhanger…"

His voice was quiet. Pounding like a child that learned he couldn't tame goldfish.

The author decided to end it in the most hype battle the series ever had, making Jack infuriated and excited for the next release.

But that would take months! He wanted to see what would happen now, being too impatient.

The end was a sticky situation, where the main character fought a double-sided battle- one with the enemy and the other with himself.

There were hints of insecurities in the previous volumes. But the author outdid himself, making the development shine better than most famous authors.

"Truly a gem under the dirt. It's mind-blowing how people sleep on it."

The book he was reading was no new yorks time bestseller- Unlike most novels these days- It was hidden in the trash pile of a library. Jack was recommended the book by a friend, which was surprising: Being a bookworm, he had a book with him wherever he was.

Seeing him miss out on good series was rare, but he was glad to find the next gem.

A drought occurred in his "to read next" list before the rain was brought by (Lake Night) a saving from the heavens, which he treasured like a leprechaun's gold.

"I hate studying," Jack said out of nowhere, "There are so many books I'm missing out on. It sucks how good a series release is when you are busy or doing a challenge."

Revealing his intentions, he sighed.

He relaxed on the hardwood bench, slowly becoming a blob of jello. He was direly in need of a massage both in his mind and body, as papers and coffee had become his daily routine.

Although a little sad, the last year of high school is exhausting.

Jack was losing sleep working on college exams. He didn't even care about anything else, told by the group chat being left on read.

He hadn't gone to an outing or a mixer in months, being locked in his room writing essays, solving questions, etc.

Wanting to complain, he tried to retaliate, but his parents quickly shot him down.

"I need a break. At this point, my scores will be worse… I'm so tired," Jack exclaimed to nobody in particular. He wished to laze around for a week or so. But his parents overworked Jack, not knowing his limits had been broken already.

"What's this…?"

A notification popped on his phone, which he curiously scurried to.

"World 2aB?"

He read out the title and his heartfelt strange… Like he just went through a breakup, Jack raised an eyebrow.

"Interesting, it might be a new ARG. God knows how long it's been since I participated in one." He focused more on the message. He shrugged, "Why not."

He clicked without much thought, but his screen suddenly glew red.

'Earth has limited time, and the protection system has been activated.

Time left till evolution: 4 Days'

Jack clicked his tongue, realizing he might have gotten a virus.

"Fuck… I Shouldn't have clicked it, but why is it saying some weird cult shit?" His phone became engulfed, displaying the message in its full glory.

"Okay, what the hell!"

Jack shouted. The message had changed from 4 days to 3. Jack was creeped out, but he also was curious. Many novels started this way; As a fantasy reader, he knew his way around the supernatural.

Maybe this was an escape? Being sick of constantly studying, the idea of a fight-based life didn't sound bad- Unless there would be man-eating giants involved-

"Swordmaster."

Without knowing, he started to dribble to the idea. Every teenager wished to be in a fantasy world-

Being 16, he could perfectly relate, no matter how much people would tell him to act mature. He wanted to be a strong figure and overpower his opponents.

"Dinners ready,"

A gentle voice came from upstairs, parking Jack out of his room.

Creek, rake.

The old stairs squished beneath his feet, making his way to the kitchen, where a buttery smell came from. Exquisite and alluring would be the best way to describe it. His parents were talented when it came to cooking, even managing to make Jack eat broccoli as a child.

Jack was starving, making the time perfect.

Jack pulled out the chair sitting down, where three pancakes were present; Laced with maple syrup, he was chumming to take a bite.

"Don't forget you have to cram at 12.30,"

Jack's mom said, with a calm tone- while jack clenched his fists, closing his eyes.

"You don't have to remind me. Just let me eat in peace, mom."

His voice cracked -- while Haze went back to slurping her soup--

Jack took a mouthful of his pancakes, overwhelming his mouth with joy and butter. But it was short-lived as he made a sudden realization.

'Now that I think of it. Aren't I handling this too casually?'

The notification he got was not ordinary, yet he was acting like it was normal. Most of the time wouldn't care, but this was a huge thing! Evolution? Should he tell this to the media?

He had many questions, completely forgetting about his pancakes.

Haze took notice of her son acting a little weird but didn't say anything. This was normal, him being lost in thought but without a book. He rarely cared about anything else.

"Hey, mom."

"?"

Jack stood up from his chair and slowly opened the door.

Crack

"I'm gotta go out for a bit. If you don't mind,"

Haze nodded in agreement, as Jack swiftly escaped the scene
