"The map indicates that we will arrive in Imperion in a day or two," Alani said. "Are you not scared?" Worry laced the child's tone. When Alani was only four years old, their parents perished while hunting for food outside the gates. The only one who helped them was their older brother, who unfortunately passed away a few weeks ago.
Her brother had been only fourteen years old, not strong enough to hunt outside, and she was not strong enough to become someone's servant. In the end, the two of them decided to leave Darkholme.

"Those books are not true," Marmon interrupted. He did not want to tell Alani that this information was from his brother, who had read some notebooks of a merchant claiming Imperion was different from the storybooks about vampires.
