Protection of the Prince

"Why do you think the Nightly Courtship was originally started?" Prince Maximilian asked as he finished putting on the weight around her waist. He stared at her morose expression from her reflection in the mirror in front of them.

"I believe it was for entertainment. What could be better than having a group of women fighting to win your hand?" She frowned while staring into his blue eyes. Why was she seeing his reflection?

Vampires do not have one.

Even Lucius never had one.

He chuckled. He was standing behind her. Both of them were staring at her reflection in the mirror.

Even with the added weight around her waist and ankles, she couldn't help but feel light as a feather, her thoughts consumed by the image of his piercing gaze in the mirror's reflection.

"Look in the mirror, Evelynn. Tell me what you see."

She opened her mouth to say something snarky, but decided against it and simply replied, "An exhausted woman."
