Jealousy

"What are you doing here?" Eve asked, getting up from her bed, still feeling shaken. She quickly found her robe and draped it around herself, attempting to ward off the cold. The absence of a fireplace in the room made her stay a bit more uncomfortable, but she had to endure it. They needed to maintain the illusion that she was being punished for failing to save that woman.

"It was a nighttime visit," Maximilian replied.

"You could have knocked," she retorted, her voice laced with sarcasm. She located a pitcher of water on the table, grateful that they hadn't denied her basic necessities like drinking water.

The room was practically barren aside from her hard single-sized bed, a table and a chair, and some books. She honestly thought they were going to starve her too.

"I did," he replied calmly.

"Oh?" she raised an eyebrow in surprise.
