Eve Lucresia's Mother

There was a heavy silence inside the room. Eve almost held her breath as she waited for a response.

"No, I did not," Max replied, his gaze appearing complex. It was as if her words had answered many questions in his mind.

"You did not know that only someone with dragon's blood could obtain the orb?" she inquired.

"No, I did not."

Surprisingly, she appeared to believe him. He could have easily lied, but here she was, believing him! If this was not naivety, what was it?

"So, you did not choose me that night because of my blood?"

"No, I did not."

Eve pursed her lips, then nodded. "I met someone..."

"Someone?" he quickly raised an eyebrow.

"Someone with blond hair, yet I can no longer recall his face. He— I think he was at the tavern, and then he followed us here. He easily breached the enchantments in the room and asked me about my blood."
