How to steal the Hero's heart

The momentary silence between them made the guilty Halfsie tense up. It thought that maybe if it confessed now, it will only sacrifice half of its remaining fur.

(Who?) Eve's indifferent voice rang in its mind.

( Host, his name is Sarien Lu.) The furball gingerly answered.

(And who the hell is he?) Eve mulled over the male-sounding name and reviewed the host body's memory for any onion sprout named Sarien. Unfortunately, she found no clue.

The black ball suddenly found it difficult to explain the matter to its boss. Halfsie postulated different ways in its mind on how it could tell Eve in a way that won't result in its death. It realized that it's rather challenging to spell out the fact that it sent her to this particular point in time just to steal a man. For a moment, Halfsie even regretted reading those cliché novels that clearly diminished its logic.

As a matter of fact, Halfsie began researching ways to help its host blacken the heavenly being way back in space. It collated data from different manuscripts including novels, comics, and books to find the best method. After intensive analysis, it found that one of the best means to be hated is to snatch their lovers. Halfsie even read one story that depicted half-sisters who fought to the death over a man. It even got carried away and wished to visit that realm just to wrench the villain's hair off her scalp. Determining the effectiveness of such a technique, the good furball then thought of egging the host in stealing the noble person's significant other to hasten their corruption.

Of course, it did not go out of its way purely for benevolent reasons. It calculated that if the host was pleased with its proposal, she would reward it with the ultimate chance to frolic. Yes, to be precise everything it did was for the sake of frisking.

Halfsie resolved that it must entice the host with the idea but not let her know of its ulterior motive. It figured coming clean after sounding out the host's opinion is a better choice.

( Host, he is the only man in Halesia's heart.)

Eve, who was originally lackadaisical, perked her ears up when she heard the gossip. She was immediately interested in this new person.

( Does it mean he is Halesia's lover?)

( Instead of a lover, it's better to say love interest.) The system reviewed the plot in the last life and continued,

( Sarien Lu is your sister's secret love. However, it seems he didn't feel the same towards her. Although they did not end up together, he remained one of her protectors all her life.)

[ A guardian, huh. How intriguing.]

She recalled what Halfsie mentioned before about the heavenly being attaining whatever they desire, be it success, love, or wealth. That being said, how could this Sarien person manage to free from her claws?

( Go on.)

( In the past life, your sister took care of Sarien Lu after she accidentally worsened his injury. They got along very well hence they became great acquaintance.)

( Was that incident their first encounter?)

( Yes host and it should happen two months from now.)

( So I was sent to this point in time just to save him?)

( Indeed host, to save him from the root incident.)

The furball did its best to conceal its growing apprehension. When it didn't hear any violent reaction, it was thankful that Eve doesn't seem to notice anything.

( Why should I save him? Even if he guards Halesia in the future, he won't be able to save her from me.)

In truth, Eve was more curious about how they managed to set foot at the right moment. She wanted to inquire if the system guide can choose their entry point. Despite that, she decided to focus on the agenda at hand before interrogating it.

Regarding the new person, it's true he sparked her interest but she lacked the will to save him. Anyway, she is not threatened by his future security towards Halesia. What's more, she is confident she can find ways to interrupt their destined camaraderie. She also has her means, ability, and the host body's talent. Not to mention, she's fully loaded with money and has a huge backer; the Tang father and son. It goes without saying that with her around, that nasty woman could only kiss her dream of seizing their wealth goodbye.

Halfsie was immediately silenced by her words. It did not anticipate the host would be like this. According to the stories, villains are enticed to steal the leading man's fondness, so why? It felt deceived by the things it read. At any rate, it has already started with its plan and reckoned to continue either way. With that in mind, Halfsie spilled everything it found out about Sarien Lu.

( Host, I found out that this person will be very powerful in the future. Not only that, I can sense some nobility in his soul.)

(Nobility? Similar to the heavenly being's ?)

Her brows unconsciously furrowed but instantly loosened them when she noticed. Even if this is not her godly face, she should stop such activities that may eventually turn into a habit.

( Yes, host. Though not as strong, it's a genuine aura that protects him.)

Halfsie was perplexed when it first saw the condition of this person. It did not know multiple noble people could exist in one place. Although the aura is faint, it can still be considered as one. It surmises that this person will achieve greater heights in this world as he is also protected by the heavens.

( Can we assume he is the counterpart of our target?)

( It could be considered as such.)

[ A hero for a heroine. A match made in heaven, huh.]

Eve thought it made sense. A heavenly being is comparable to a heroine of the world being blessed by the gods and all. Therefore, there should be a person that protects the protagonist like a hero of some sort, similar to how it is portrayed in movies or generic stories.

She even contemplated if her ex-fiancé was the hero for her sister but doubted such an assumption. That man is kinda lacking after all. Just the face can't even be considered the best of the best. She infers that the hero should at least have that attribute.

( Host, in five minutes he'll be hit by a loose car while waiting to cross the pedestrian lane.)

Eve glanced at the location right outside the café window.

( Where is he?)

( He'll be there in about a minute, host)

Eve simply let a low sound of assent. Inwardly she admonished herself for finishing her latte in one go. Now it's too late to order another one.

She's also ruminating why the second protagonist will meet an accident when they are obviously protected by divine intervention. Eve speculated that maybe he needed to be injured just to cross paths with the heroine. She thinks that sort of a conjecture is highly possible.

[How cunning.] She sneered.

Just to have a mighty shield in the future, destiny will even screw someone's life to pave a way for her.

[ Like an annoying favorite child.]

She inwardly rolled her eyes thinking of such bias. If that lucky bastard was only favored within a family, it would be forgivable. However, that's not the case. The heavenly beings are the darlings of providence and stood on top of everyone's fate. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do. If you hinder the protagonist's life, you'll die. If you can be god assist to them, fate will f*ck you up just to incorporate you in their life. Doesn't it make them look like supporting roles only existing to enhance that wretched person's life? Then she momentarily paused as a certain phrase flashed in her mind.

[ I sure did spice up that Heavenly B*tch's life.]

She smiled eerily as an intense desire welled inside her. Eve craves so hard in dragging those irritating beings off their high horse.

The innocent people who have been graced by another wave of chilly air: [ Damn, it must be global warming.]

( Host, will you save him?)

The furball's voice pulled her away from her darkening thoughts.

( Depends.)

She answered indifferently. Even after knowing he is the probable hero of this world, Eve still doesn't have the urge to save him. She considers that if the guy is worth saving, then she will. If not, she'll just have to enjoy the spectacle later on. For her to decide, she'll have to examine him first.

( Host, he's here.)

Hearing the childish voice, her sight then focused on a certain area. Soon after, a young man appeared within her view. She has to admit, this person is an eye-candy that can pull everyone's attention. He has the presence that makes him stand out within the crowd.

[ No doubt a hero material.]

She mused while gazing over his striking appearance and did not forget to conclude that her ex-fiancé was in no way a hero.

( How old is he?)

Eve inquired while continuously studying her possible target.

( He's currently 16 years old, host.)

[ Hmm. Only two years older than me, huh.]

( When will my half-sister barge in my family?)

( She will be recognized in exactly 1 year and 6 months from now, host.)

[ More than a year to snatch her future beloved. How wonderful.]

She grinned deviously as she cupped her chin, still staring at the teenager.

( Host, will you save him?)

Halfsie can't help but sweat for the young man. He'll be critically injured in no more than four minutes yet its host has not yet agreed.

(Still thinking of it.) Eve answered casually.

Stealing him to be her guardian means spending time together in the future. Eve weighed the pros and cons before making a major decision.

For the pros, her gaze went to the handsome features which she can appreciate from within her seat. She recognizes that this dude is almost as good-looking as Huo'er. If it weren't for his obvious aura of immaturity, maybe they'll be on par. Her eyes then went down to his abdomen, trying to visualize the presence of six-pack abs underneath the white shirt. Then further down to his pair of long legs, which made Eve nod in appreciation. Tall, not too lean, neat looking, and exuding the prestige akin to a handsome aristocratic young man.

[Yep, this leading man smells like money and charismatic oomph.]

In her mind, she gave him a perfect 10/10, a score that qualified him to constantly mingle with her.

When reflecting on the negative aspect, her fingers habitually tapped on the table.

( Host?)

The furball's anxiety is nearing critical levels as it watches Eve like a hawk. The host has been eyeing the hero for a long time yet still won't move. If she won't get going soon the young man will surely be crushed.

(Host, there's only two and a half minutes left.)

Halfsie is on tenterhooks now. Eve on the other hand only took out her phone and examined her complexion using the front camera. She fixed her hair and checked her face.

( Is there a way for me to be heavily injured but not critical enough to endanger my life?) Her apathetic voice rang once again.

Even if she's willing to injure herself in exchange for a loyal sentinel, that doesn't mean wanting a certain death. She just got here and doesn't want to lose her life in a drama she willingly performed.

Halfsie:?

The furball was curious why the host wanted to be injured if she could simply take the hero away from danger.

( Host, why don't you just lead him somewhere safe?)

( Oh my black snowflake, it seems you're still a little naive.)

Her eyes bent into crescents as her sardonic smile became more intense.

Halfsie: [ I don't get it.]

( Just tell me. Do you have a way?) Eve questioned again.

( I'm sorry host but I don't.) The furball can only admit it's lack of such power.

(How sad. I do wish there's a way to pull off such a death-defying stunt.)

To showcase a wonderful performance later, certainly, she must act all out.

( But host, rest assured you can not die. Your host body can only perish once you choose to leave the mission world.)

It immediately informed the host that it may lack the means to attain what she specifically wanted, her life however will never be at stake.

(Good.)

Eve was delighted with such a guarantee. Now she only has to choose which limb to sacrifice.

( Does that mean you'll save him, host?)

Halfsie became excited as the boss finally showed enthusiasm in robbing the man.

( I won't just save him.)

She turned her phone off then tucked it back into her pocket.

She stood up and gently patted the non-existent dust on her jeans as she continued,

( I'll even make him my slave and he'll agree ever so willingly.)

She smiled beautifully and walked in unhurried steps.

[ Didn't the heroine took care of him? Then I'll make him take good care of me.]

[ Not only for a moment but all his eternity.]

She let a low chuckle as she locked on the hero not far ahead.

[ Hope you know how to swim my dear Halesia.]

[ For in this life, your only destiny is to drown in jealousy.]
