Chapter 1:

It was snowing. The moon was brightly hanging from the night sky. It was almost lost in the mist and lights of New York City. The cold breeze stung my skin as I got out to see what had happened. It was exactly 3:30am, what could I have possibly hit at this hour?

I made my way around my black Cadillac and saw her there. Laying lifeless on the thin sheet of white snow. Where the hell did she come from? My reflexes are beyond comparison, there is no way I would not have seen her.

I got closer to her and could see her breath in the coldness of the night. From behind her platinum blonde curls, I could see the blood starting to seep into the whiteness of the snow.

In all my years of being in this world, this is the first time I was not afraid. I was intrigued as I approached her face. Her skin was pale, almost like the moon itself. Her lips had a tint of rose. She was breathtaking.

I reached my hand out to move her locks away from her face, and I could see a subtle hue of blue in her hair. She must be into those new hair trends.

As I moved her hair away, she slowly opened her eyes. I was mesmerized.

I had never seen that color before.

Even from my own kind. She had the most beautiful set of violet eyes.

She gently groaned in clear pain and reached to her head.

"Miss, are you alright? Let me take you to the hospital."

Honestly I just wanted a bit more time to look at her.

"What happened?" She softly asked. Her voice was raspy but very gentle. She appeared to be in her late 20's maybe early 30's.

"I did not see you coming and I truly am sorry. Let me take you to a medic okay?"  I was starting to get concerned.

She quickly shot up.

"Did you see them?!"

She was suddenly very frightened. She grabbed onto my long, black drench coach with pleading eyes.

"Please, don't take me to the hospital. Can you just drive me out of the city?" She clung to me as her blood dripped down to her shoulders. There was something about her smell that was driving me crazy. Yet I didn't feel like tearing her to shreds. Still, it could be perilous to sit with her in my car.

"Did you say you saw someone? Were you being chased?" I looked around, surely I wasn't the only one whose attention was drawn to her and this isn't the safest city at night.

I could pick up an airy scent. It smelled like iron and death. It clearly was one of my kind.

Fear was in her eyes as her hands trembled begging me to help her. Her violet eyes pierced whatever little soul I had left.

I quickly helped her up and sat her in my car. I made my way around the car to the driver side. When I reached for the door I noticed that her blood had covered my beige leather gloves. I brought my hands up to my face and took a sniff. It smelled sweet and citrus. I had never smelled blood like this. I felt the transformation starting. I quickly wiped my hands on my coat and got in the car.

"Can we please just go quickly?" She asked, her voice trembled with fear.

"Who was after you?" I asked as if I didn't already know. I wondered if the scent her blood gave off had anything to do with all of this.

"I-I-don't really know. They were men. Fast and strong. They jumped high almost like they were flying. Their faces were terrifying, they looked like.... you wouldn't believe me if I told you."

She stopped herself and looked down at her hands and then back out the window as I drove away.

"Do you have a place to go to? An address I can put in the GPS?"  I looked at her through my peripheral and could see her grabbing her head.

"I don't have a place to go. You can just drop me off at the first motel we see." She was obviously scared and in pain.

"I'm sorry, I don't feel comfortable leaving you alone in the middle of nowhere, bleeding after I hit you. If you would like, I can bring you to my house and treat your wounds. I am not a surgeon but I do have a degree in medicine so I would feel much better if you would let me attend to your wounds if you do not want to go to the hospital."

I reached into the glove compartment and pulled out a business card for my medical office.

"See, I am not lying." I handed her the card.

"Dr. Sebastian Monte. Okay, I guess that I need to get this treated first." She gave me a slight smile and I drove upstate.

We got to my home about 25 minutes later. My house was a Spanish style villa with driveway lights illuminating the path. It was very rustic looking with arcs on the doors and windows. Stone covered the front facade of the villa and the driveway. I was very proud of my home, after all I did build it myself.

"We are here. Let's go in and have that looked at."
