The White Coven

Adelyn didn't know why they're talking about this in front of her. Was the reason behind her abduction because they assumed she was a Witch?

The likelihood of it is undeniable.

Or else, why would they attack her and bring her here?

But there was one thing she was curious about. Will they kill her or let her live?

Adelyn didn't like the idea of dying in the hands of these people. But what else could she possibly do in her current situation?

At this time, she was only waiting for them to be done discussing what to do with her.

The two people inside the room, aside from her, continued to talk as if she was not inside the room, sleeping after they attacked her.

Jamie sighed.

"It would be better if we release her now and not waste everybody's time. What if she's not a Witch but an ordinary woman accused of being one?" he tried to convince his mother. He never liked the idea of attacking an unarmed woman in the forest. It was all his younger brother's impulsive actions that brought this troublesome problem to their doorsteps.

Livina, Jamie's mother, shook her head. "There must be a reason why the townspeople chased after her. She's also not in the right condition to be left outside. The least we can do if she turned out to be an ordinary human is to send her away."

Jamie was hesitant about this. But in the end, he agreed with his mother.

He looked down at the patient in the room and sighed again. From a glance, he could tell that she was not a poor commoner. Her skin is too pale and white. Not a swath of callus could be seen in her hands and skin. As for her hair. It was white, as if the Moon had graced it with its light making it look white like a piece of uncut diamond.

No matter how anyone looked at her, they would think of the brightest star and moon.

Jamie was pulled out of his thoughts when the sound of bickering was heard outside. He frowned and was ready to go there to see who was making a ruckus when his mother stopped him.

"I'll go there and see what's happening," said Livina, taking away a bucket of dirty water with her. "Help me look after her while I'm away."

The door closed behind her with a soft thud.

A minute passed in complete silence.

Then, a sound tore it apart.

"So, you can stop pretending to be asleep now," Jamie said.

At once, Adelyn's heart thudded loudly inside her. She didn't expect him to find out she was just pretending to be asleep.

Still, she didn't want to face her abductors and continued her act.

"My mother won't be away for too long. She'll come back in a few minutes. Within those minutes, it would be best if you wake up now and talk to me. Maybe you can ask me what you want to know." Jamie quickly added, "Not that I would answer them all."

Adelyn did not want to wake up. But his suggestion was too tempting. She had no knowledge of where she was and who these people were. With his help, maybe she could leave her as soon as possible.

Naturally, she was still hesitant to completely trust him since he's the brother of the one who attacked her head from behind. But what other choices does she have now?

After agonizingly thinking on what was the best course of action, her eyelashes soon fluttered and the lids opened, revealing a pair of deep green eyes akin to an emerald.

For a brief moment, Jamie stared at her unblinkingly.

Adelyn struggled to sit up, and for a second, her vision was spinning, making her feel slightly nauseous.

Suddenly, a delicious scent assaulted her senses. When she raised her head to glance over at what it was, she saw a bowl of hot porridge in Jamie's hand.

"My mother cooked this in case you woke up." He patiently waited for her to take the bowl from his hand, and when she finally did, he backed away and leaned against the wall beside the window. "Eat a few bites of it before you ask me questions."

Adelyn did not have the appetite to eat. She never ate more than what she needed to stay alive. But perhaps, she was starving after being unconscious for a period of time, the sight of the bowl of porridge in front of her became enticingly tasty.

In the end, she shamelessly picked up the wooden spoon, blew it a few times before putting it in her mouth. The explosion of flavors in her mouth surprised her.

But again, after a few mouthfuls of it, she no longer had the desire to eat anymore.

Raising his eyebrows after seeing the leftovers in the bowl, he asked her, "Aren't you too late to think we poisoned you?"

'Poison?' Adelyn stared at him incredulously. Why didn't she think of that earlier?

Her eyes widened and looked quite adorable. Jamie noted before saying, "We did not poison it so finish it."

Adelyn shook her head. "I'm done."

She passed the bowl to him.

Jamie stared at her for a few seconds before taking it from him. It won't be his fault if she died hungry. Who would eat six mouthfuls of porridge and say they're done?

"Where am I?" she finally asked.

Jamie thought about whether he should lie to her or not. But then, he said, "At the White Coven."

Adelyn frowned. She had never heard of this place before. But it was not necessarily a place she should remember since she only heard of places frequently mentioned to her.

Staring at her being in a daze, Jamie explained, We're currently in the northern-eastern part of the now Dracia Empire. And just a few towns away from where we found you."

Of course, he didn't tell her that they were currently not in a town but deep inside a hidden cave. And that the White Coven was a place where the descendants of Witches lived.
