"A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be." ~ Albert Einstein.
He entered the car, and I couldn't contain my fear. "Alex, did you know him?" I asked, my anxiety getting the best of me. Alex nodded briefly and started driving away.
"Alex, are you friends with that man?" I inquired, hoping for an answer. However, he remained silent, leaving my questions unanswered. "My wild cat is suddenly asking too many questions. When did you become talkative?" he quipped with a smile, effectively silencing my inquiries. Feeling unsettled, I chose to keep quiet. The remainder of the journey to the motor park in Crystal Palace was spent in an uneasy silence.
...
Despite my family's wealth, this was my first time visiting the Crystal Restaurant. I had heard a lot about it, but it remained an unknown to me. As we entered, I observed Alex pulling out my chair with a courteous gesture. The waiter attended to us, and I decided to order palmier cookies and a glass of Rose all day wine. Interestingly, he made a similar choice, opting for simple snacks, despite his obvious affluence.
"Let's eat," he finally broke the prolonged silence. I could sense that the encounter with the other man had affected his mood.
"Jessy," he called, and I met his gaze. "Tell me about yourself," he requested with a smile, seemingly attempting to divert his thoughts. "There's nothing significant to say about me. I am who I am," I replied matter-of-factly. He probed further, "Have you ever been in love?"
"I'm sorry, I don't know how to handle relationships. You have no idea," I answered, looking away and struggling to be open with him. "Maybe we should try it... being in love is a transcendent experience," he said, a seductive smile playing on his lips. I suspected he might be a womanizer, with his charm and allure.
"What!? Jessy, what are you talking about?" he exclaimed, clearly taken aback by my candid response. I regretted letting those words slip out loud enough for him to hear. How was I going to navigate my way out of this awkward situation?
Suddenly, someone pulled up a chair and sat down beside us. It was the same man we had encountered earlier. "Mr. Lucas!?" Alex exclaimed, clearly surprised.
"I can't believe you own the most famous restaurants. Although it looks great," Mr. Lucas stated coldly. He turned his attention towards me. "Nice to meet you, Lady Jessy. I'm Lucas." As I looked at him, I noticed his unique appearance and the special aura he exuded. His silver eyes were as clear as crystal, and his dark, shiny hair framed his face elegantly. He appeared almost angelic in his distinctiveness.
"Miss Jessy, would you mind having a drink with me?" he inquired in his cold, chilling voice. I was hesitant to reply to him, considering his commanding presence. He was undoubtedly handsome, but his speech seemed capable of freezing anyone. Before I could respond, Alex intervened, "She doesn't drink alcohol, but we can have some together, though not for long."
Mr. Lucas ordered bottles of Bacardi rum, and they both started drinking. Strangely, after around thirty minutes, it was evident that the alcohol had no effect on Mr. Lucas, while Alex was getting intoxicated. Their bloodshot eyes indicated that they were locking horns.
"Mr. Alex, are you pretending to be weak in front of her?" Mr. Lucas queried, his tone colder than ever.
"Mr. Lucas, we're taking our leave," I declared, standing up to help Alex, who was clearly drunk. "Miss Jessy, I appreciate your bravery. I'd like to meet you privately," Mr. Lucas stated, his words lingering in the air as we quickly left the restaurant. On our way, I struggled to support Alex's weight, and a helpful stranger came to assist me. After thanking him, we made our way to the car.
"Jessy," Alex called out to me.
"Yes?" I responded.
"You're so beautiful," he murmured.
"Enough talking; you're too heavy," I retorted, trying to lift the mood. His laughter filled the air. Suddenly, he embraced me tightly, and I looked up at him in surprise.
"Let me prove it to you," he whispered, leaning in close. Before I could react, he kissed me. The kiss was unexpectedly light, but then he deepened it. I was caught off guard, my heart racing. "So, was that your first kiss?" he asked teasingly as he pulled away, leaving me breathless. Before I could respond, he slumped against me, his drunken state evident.
