73 Ystur's Path

A bit past midday, Astur is lazing around on the sofa watching Ystur play video games. With nothing else to do, she decides to take a look at Ystur's status. To her surprise, Ystur is still level 1.

"Do you have any intention to get a job?" Astur asks.

Putting the game controller down, Ystur turns to Astur, "You are the last person who should be asking that."

"I have a job. My job is to tell people what to do and profit off their hard work while I sleep," Astur says with a straight face.

Ystur narrows her eyes as she stares at Astur, but she doesn't say anything.

"Jokes aside, I do sell the things I make sometimes. But this isn't what I meant. I meant was like how I'm an alchemist, or how most those flies from the Church are priests, and how someone who practices magic is usually a mage."

As Astur explains, Ystur quickly figures out that she had been talking about a Job Class. Taking a look at her status, Ystur has amassed a decent amount of EXP, but it's been sitting there untouched while she still only has the Civilian Class with no Subclasses.

"I'll pick a profession eventually, but I need to figure out what I want to pick first," Ystur says.

This is the main reason that Ystur had put off picking a Main Class, she simply didn't know what to choose. From the limited information she has from her previous life, Ystur knows that there are five classes available on Planet Vopal, Mage, Pugilist, Priest, Esper, and Alchemist. From what she knows from Blaze's stream, the Alchemist Class is classified as a Hidden Class and is only available through Astur. It's because of its status as a Hidden Class that Ystur has been hesitant to pick her Main Class since after choosing, it can't be changed under normal circumstances and if there is one Hidden Main Class then there could be more.

"What are my options?" Ystur asks, wondering if her Mom could tell her about any Class she isn't aware of.

"There are the obvious Mage and Pugilist options. If you want to see if you can awaken an Esper ability then I might be able to concoct something to force an awakening, but since you have my genes, it probably wouldn't lead to anything. If you so much as think about trying to join the Church to become a priest, I'll let you meet my belt. There is of course the wonderful profession of an Alchemist, great benefits I tell ya', DEFINITELY not a money sink. Other than those… I suppose there is the Naturalist approach available to you. I'm sure if you met with some alley rat you might be able to learn how to be a thief. Asterion's got a unique style that separates him from others so you might be able to learn something from him. But I would suggest you stay away from any martial path."

"Why?" Ystur asks. As far as she knows, there isn't anything wrong with being a Pugilist or any similar Class.

"They're muscles heads. No way am I letting you become a muscle who can't think before they act. As a standard, they're all morons, take Lester as an example. Asterion is an exception, mostly because he isn't a pure Pugilist," Astur explains.

From their discussion, Ystur's expectations were met and there are more Classes than she initially knew about. Thief is relatively standard, but the other two stuck out more to her. Astur had been vague about it, but Ystur figures that Asterion should be able to teach a Hidden Main Class as Astur can. Since it doesn't seem like Astur knows much about Asterion's Class, Ystur asks what a Naturalist is.

"It refers to someone who specialises in using their inborn abilities, for beings like Demons and Spirits, this would usually mean their racial abilities. Kretea is a good example of a Naturalist from the people around you."

"What about our race, Infinity Wolves? What kind of abilities do we have?" Ystur asks curiously.

"We have a lot of abilities. Infinity Wolves stand at the very top of the Demon hierarchy. We are the origin, the apex, the absolute prime. Infinity Wolves are a type of Demon known as a Primordial Demon, of which, there are only twelve. Primordial Demons are a force of the world itself and embody certain aspects, in this regard, they aren't dissimilar to Gods. Infinity Wolves represent the possibilities of the soul and the body. Although you probably won't unlock the ability to do so any time soon, the most known ability of us Infinity Wolves is, in simple terms, the power to change our soul's aptitudes. Every person has something they will excel at from birth, some might have a natural talent for magic and others might have a talent for martial arts. But we can shift those talents around, using numbers to simplify things, say you have a talent rating of 100 in singing, 40 in magic, and 60 in martial arts, you could shift those around to have 200 in singing, but you would then become incompetent at magic and martial arts. Although you would still be able to use what you know, its efficiency would drop considerably in regards to magic and while in terms of power your martial arts wouldn't really change, you also won't pick things up as quickly in battle nor would you be able to learn or create any new techniques. However, your singing capabilities would be greatly enhanced, effectively turning someone who hates you into your number one fan after hearing you sing," Astur explains.

"That's cool, can you do it?" Ystur asks.

"... No. This is something available only to 10 tailed Infinity Wolves. As we gain more tails we should also gain more abilities. Most of the abilities we will gain revolve around strengthening the body and soul. Once we get to 8 tails, we would gain the ability to directly attack the soul even when it's still in a body. And at 9, all the previous abilities would be strengthened in addition to being able to live as a Soulform."

"Why is it that whenever you actually explain something you also give on these long-winded explanations?" Ystur asks, completely changing the topic.

"Because it shows how superior my knowledge is," Astur says with complete seriousness.

"..."

Ystur has nothing to say in response. She's known for a while that her mother is a narcissist and she knows there isn't any point in trying to argue, so she returns to a previous topic.

"Anyway, what path do you think I should take?"

Astur closes her eyes to think for a moment. Despite her shamelessness, Astur isn't going to blindly promote her Class to Ystur. Ystur's choice here will affect how the rest of her life plays out, so Astur wants to make sure that her daughter has the most optimal path forward. A few minutes of silence pass, Astur contemplating the best fit for Ystur and the young girl in question choosing to remain silent from seeing how serious Astur is taking the matter.

Astur gets up and opens her eyes, "It might not be the strongest from the get-go, but I think Naturalist will be the best fit for you. Not all the knowledge will transfer one to one, but you can get the basics from Kretea. This fine with you?"

"Yeah, I guess it's fine. But can you tell me why?"

"A Naturalist focuses on the inborn traits and abilities of a person. So beyond just the racial abilities of an Infinity Wolf, you can also strengthen those Authorities of yours. Although it's something you could have done without being a Naturalist, being one will make it much easier. Now take a seat and start reading, I have a book that can get you started. Once you're done go find Kretea and get your to drill you on the basics of using Demonic Energy."
