“Waiting on my ride.”
“Of course, that’s why you’re hanging out with me. I’m just someone to make idle talk with, borrow notes from. Whatever.”
“You’re my bestie. Nothing I wouldn’t want other than hang with you.”
“Yeah, until you get bus fare and head up with your boyfriend, Sully, to New York.”
“You heard that?”
“I didn’t hear a lot of what you guys were saying but I saw him pump his fist and scream out New York like some weirdo.”
“You’re exaggerating. He didn’t pump his fist. He did scream New York like a weirdo, I agree with you. Besides I don’t have any great plans after graduation. I barely know what I’m doing tomorrow or the next day.”
“Well, you don’t have to tell me but is Sully taking advantage of you?”
“What?” asked Joshua.
“I know what you feel about him. And he likes to hang out with you.”
“That ship’s sailed. I thought I knew him but—”
“I knew it! Something happened! You don’t have to tell me but if he hurt you, you can’t let him use you.”
