Carlos Dalus

My name is Carlos Dalus. Born in the small village of Verisia on the peaceful island of Verisia which is on the outskirts of the continent of Mizule. I had just recently become 15, making me of age to be an adult. I've dreamt of becoming an adventurer for as long as i can remember. Not just any adventurer, a mithril class adventurer. I waited until i became an adult because going off to become an adventurer and exploring the isles before is basically a death sentence. See, once a person comes of age, they are able to use magic. There is the basic fire, ice, earth, wind, thunder. Shadow and light are only given to a lucky few. One doesn't unlock magic until 2 conditions are fulfilled. The first being having to be at least 15 years of age. The second varies from person to person and is completely random. It can be something mundane like eating a certain type of meat to defeating a certain monster but the harder it is to fulfill the conditions, the more powerful the magic is. It could even by multiple conditions. Some people live their life until they die of old age without ever unlocking their magic. Adventuring is a dangerous profession. Many people lost their lives thinking that adventuring is a piece of cake but this is false. Without any prior training or some knowledge to the job, an unfortunate newbie can very easily lose their life. I've tried just about everything i could think of to unlock my magic but to no avail. Only things left to try were slaying a monster and a number of other things not available on the island of Verisia. Without any magic, it is near impossible to take on most monster. Most newbies end up quitting after finding out how difficult the job actually is. Even picking plants can be difficult without any prior knowledge on the topic. To see to it that my dreams come true, i trained and studied under the people of my village. They were reluctant at first but eventually gave in with a little persuading. I learnt how to wield heavy weapons, how to properly pick and identify herbs, how to sail and other basics. Once i came of age, i sailed out across the sea by boat to the closest city to officially register as an adventurer, taking my first step towards my goal.

~5 years later~

A white-haired and red-eyed youth can be seen exploring what appears to be an abandoned mine. This man is me, the iron rank adventurer, Carlos Dalus. Adventurer ranks from lowest to highest are copper, iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and finally mythril. Now why am i still at iron rank after all these years? It's simply because i haven't unlocked my magic yet. I've tried everything i could think of. I even hired other adventurers to help me slay steonger monster and still nothing. But this isn't enough to stop me from pursuing my dreams.

Right now i'm in the abandoned mines of ersia. I'd taken a request to mine materials for a blacksmith. I've been getting by with collection requests like these for these 5 years. With great axe in one hand and lantern in another, i traversed the abandoned mine in search for the ores i needed to find.

These mines were said to be free of any dangerous monsters and designated as relatively safe by the adventurers guild. The only monsters around were goblins and they're one of the weakest monsters. A normal adult can barely take one on and i can take 3 on at the same time without much difficulty and 5 at most. If there's more than that, i'll run away. Better safe than sorry since i don't want to die. Well, there were stories of how those who die go to a place called the abyss where they have to overcome a trial and if they succeed, they get to come back to the overworld. I don't really believe it though.

The mine was relatively large so i had no trouble swinging my axe around. I eventually found the ores with the use of a cheap magic item that looks like an iron stick. It detects nearby ore veins by vibrating the closer it is to it. I held the stick out and once i got to the wall where it vibrated the most, i took out my pickaxe from my magic bag and begun to dig. The magic bag is another magic tool that is basically bigger in the inside than it appears on the outside. It is an essential item for an adventure rand it took me 2 years of saving up to get one.

The sounds of metal clashing with stone resounded throughout the mine. I dug and dug until i saw a small glimmer. I continued digging with renewed vigour and finally got all the stone out of the way. Embedded in the wall was a vein of fectiven. A material often used for making weapons and armor. Just as i was about to begin excavating, i heard a *woosh* sound and quickly jumped out of the way. I turned around only to despair. Goblins. A whole lot of goblins. I estimated around 40 and they had me surrounded. Some with bows in hand, others with various weapons made of metal and wood and a goblin mage at the back, holding a wooden staff. It appeared to be a gang of goblins. Usually there would be no more than 10 goblins in a group but sometimes a bigger number of goblins assemble under a goblin with higher intellect. This time it's a goblin mage. Just my luck. I hadn't heard of anything about goblin gangs forming around these mines.

I would usually look up on information related to the request like location, environment and monsters. I would even note rumours so i guess this goblin gang was recently formed.

I was pretty much screwed but there's no way i'm dying here before becoming a full fledged mythril class adventurer. I quickly scanned the area. I was backed up against the wall. There were 3 directions i could go. The goblin mage was in front so thats a no go. There were less goblins to the right than to the left so i swiftly charged towards my right. The goblins, caught off by my sudden charge panicked and i managed to take out 2 of them before they regained their bearings.

Just then i heard more *woosh* sounds. I quickly picked up a nearby goblin to act as my meatshield and blocked the arrows. The goblin groaned before i threw it at the other goblins and ran through the small opening i made. I got a few cuts on the way out but nothing i couldn't shake off. The goblins gave chase but i waa faster.

Just when i thought i was free, blazing flames came out of nowhere and engulfed my being. I felt the searing heat and began to roll on the rocky ground while screaming my lungs out. I caught a glimpse of the goblin mage, smirking as the goblins got closer and closer. I tried to get up and run but it was too late.

First the arrows pierced my body, then i got stabbed, slashed and bruised. I felt my body breaking and it slowly gave out till everything became a blur and i couldn't feel the pain anymore.

'I don't want to die yet' 'I'm still not a mithril class adventurer, i can't die here'

These were my thoughts as my vision went to darkness.

By the time i came to, i couldn't make heads or tails of where i was.
