Chapter 28 Like a Real Grandfather
It has been going on for hours. Liang Chen ate 4 more perfect-grade Soul Mending Pills. He took one whenever the healing effect ran out. He wanted to scream really loud to relieve some tension but he kept it in. He has bloodshot eyes, tears are coming out. The pain was almost unbearable, it was like a knife was cutting through his head. He gritted his teeth, trying to endure the agony and he wanted to bang his head multiple times on the floor. The pain finally started to subside after eating 2 more pills. He felt a sense of relief like a torture machine was trying to split his head apart then it stopped. The cracks on his sea of consciousness were being repaired at a rapid rate since no new cracks are appearing.
When there was no longer any pain and his sea of consciousness had cleared all cracks, he opened his eyes. What he saw bewildered him as there are a lot of smoke inside his room. When he asked the Universal Guide, it didn't answer immediately. After a while, it explained that what he was seeing was the actual qi wavelengths and qi itself. The Universal Guide did not expect the spirit sense technique to evolve. It just wants Liang Chen to absorb the qi in the 3rd eye to strengthen his spirit sense. It doesn't even know why it evolved. After merging the 3rd eye with the Divine Soul Perception technique, it evolved from a rare cultivation technique to a unique one. Its general usage is on par with a common Immortal-level cultivation technique but the grade still counts as a Mortal-level one. Liang Chen was surprised when he heard that. He never thought that he would have an ability that is the same as an immortal. He tested his spirit sense on one of the disciples cultivating in the other room. What he saw almost flipped his eyes out. He can see the meridians like smoke veins in the disciple's body. What surprised him the most is that he can check the body as if he was there. No need to check the pulse to know if the person is healthy, poisoned, or has an illness. No need to touch someone and check what spirit root he/she has. Liang Chen can see everything. This was like a radar, CTScan, and X-Ray all in one. The Universal Guide was ecstatic as him. These abilities should only be accessible once a cultivator reaches the immortal level.
Liang Chen suddenly remembered something. "I never asked you before but what are the grades of a cultivation technique?" He asked.
"Every cultivation world that is below the immortal world, their cultivation techniques that can breakthrough till the Immortal Ascension Realm are called complete Mortal grade cultivation techniques. Any Mortal-grade cultivation technique that only goes to the Dao Seeking Realm and below is considered incomplete. A good example would be your Liang's family cultivation technique that can only go to the Foundation Establishment realm. This is also the same both with the immortal and divine cultivation techniques." The Universal Guide explained. "What I have given you and Xiu Ying are all complete Mortal-grade cultivation techniques."
Liang Chen now understood why they must keep their cultivation techniques a secret. If everybody knows that they have complete cultivation techniques then those powerhouses would not care if they are from the Mystic Cloud Sect. They will surround Liang Chen and Xiu Ying like hungry wolves hunting sheep and has a high chance to disregard morals and the sect. He remembered the hoodlum Liang Chen killed that said Liu Yang wanted his cultivation technique. He made up his mind that he would deal with the Liu family if he has the chance in order to protect his friends and family. Unlike the 3 hoodlums before, the last one really tried to kill him. As they say, remove the weeds from the root if you don't want them to grow back. Liang Chen felt like this kind of world where the strong eats the weak will make a person cruel whether he/she likes it or not in order to survive.
The ordeal from the 3rd eye lasted the entire night. Liang Chen relaxed and rested till morning and decided to practice his new sword technique called the Raging Tempest Sword technique. The Universal Guide chose this technique for 2 things: 1 Liang Chen has a lightning spirit root, and 2 He asked for a sword technique that is purely offensive. Just like the Unlimited Extreme Fists, this sword technique focuses on explosive lightning power. This technique will be devastating in conjunction with sword intent.
Liang Chen went inside the training hall. Unlike before, there were not many disciples since unlike a day before. When he went inside, some of the disciples are already discussing things about him. Either he will display something amazing again or what will be his training routine this time. Liang Chen went back to the same corner where he practiced before. When he went inside, some disciples close to the said corner, already moved away a bit giving him space. It became like his own personal training spot. He took out his flying sword to get ready.
"We don't need to be flashy this time. I don't want to show everything to the others especially the ones from the west outer sect peak." Liang Chen said to the Universal Guide.
Some disciples came inside in a hurry. He noticed these people were observing him while training the Unlimited Extreme Fists. He doesn't need to think hard that Liu Yang sent these disciples. They have no interest in his martial arts but were just monitoring him, unlike the others.
"Very well. We'll just focus on movements and sword strikes for now. I can do simulations for you on how to unleash actual sword techniques later or when you are alone." The Universal Guide concurs.
In the eyes of the other disciples, Liang Chen's sword training was somewhat boring. He was not doing any funny stances or flashy moves. He was just swinging his sword in all 9 directions. A head strike, shoulder strike, waist or arm strike, thigh strike, crotch strike, and a thrust. This is all he has been training for the next 2 weeks. Once he has familiarized himself with all the basic strikes, he then went back to his room. Master Wu is currently in his own room with no top and all sweaty. He has been practicing the Horse stance for a few days now. Liang Chen gave him basic training from the Unlimited Extreme Fists. In other words, an incomplete cultivation technique. At 1st, Master Wu didn't understand how just standing still will train the body but once he ran the cultivation cycle, he was amazed at how his muscles have been pulsating. For mortals, it was like an anabolic exercise but to an extreme degree. While training, Master Wu suddenly sensed some kind of energy coming from the male dorms. He quickly grabbed his robes and flew out the window. When he reached outside the dorm house, some flashing lights can be seen from the gaps in a closed window. Master Wu noticed that it was Liang Chen's room but his jaw dropped almost to the ground when he used his spirit sense and saw that every time Liang Chen swings his sword, lightning surged from the hilt towards the tip of the sword and then dissipates once the strike ends.
"He's also a lightning cultivator?!" Master Wu mumbled surprisingly.
Even though the Mystic Cloud Sect was one of the major sects in the Divine Land continent, they don't know anything about spirit roots. That is why most sects accept lots of disciples and give them cultivation techniques to know who is compatible or not. This is a shame in Liang Chen's opinion since a supposed genius with wood spirit roots and was given fire-type cultivation techniques has a high chance that person may be regarded as trash. He was surprised at 1st when there were no spirit root testing stones or crystals when he and Xiu Ying enrolled as days passed, he noticed while speaking with Master Wu that they really have no idea about it.
Master Wu has this weird smile thinking that his choice of protecting Liang Chen was the correct one. He can feel that Liang Chen has what it takes of becoming one of the core disciples and there is also a chance that he may become an inheriting disciple in the future as well. He was a bit embarrassed asking Liang Chen for the cultivation exercise before but now he doesn't think it was since this kid has so much potential to be stronger than him in time. After some more moments, Master Wu was satisfied that Liang Chen won't be in danger, and he immediately left. Liang Chen noticed Master Wu's presence when he arrived earlier. This made him smile. It felt like he has a grandpa watching over him. In both his past and present life, he never met his grandparents. He guessed that the warmth he is feeling right now should be the same as having one, especially with someone caring like Master Wu.
