Chris’s POV
Rae is twirling around in the yard, enjoying the warmth of the sun, when I feel a sudden presence come up behind me. I spin around and see Toby coming at me. I glance at Rae, to ensure that she doesn’t see us, and I walk towards Toby.
I brace for the fight that I know is coming. I’ve heard the rumors and it hurts that she’s the target. I’m not sorry for what I’ve done. I love Rae and, according to her wolf, I am her mate. I get to have her, too. I don’t know what I will do if she decides to leave, though.
The other thing that has been plaguing me, lately, is that I’ve been feeling a presence around us. There is no one ever there but it feels threatening. I am hoping to be able to talk to Toby about it, so he can help guard her but it doesn’t look like that is what he wants to do right now.
“I’m not sure if I should punch you in the face right now or just walk off with her.” Toby roars at me.
