Gabriella talked about the dark feelings she went through then. With the orphanage closed, she didn't even have a place to return to. If her current family wanted to return her, she had nowhere to go.
Viviana understood Gabriella completely because she too felt that way. Whatever the memories of the orphanage were for her, it still was home. And when it burned, it left a deep void. The feeling that there is no place to return to is a terrible feeling for a child.
But Gabriella's parents assured her that they are not returning there after finding out that Gabriella almost ended up depressed learning that some of her friends ended up dead in that tragic fire too.
She had lost her friends, and she had lost her home. That's what she felt then. But her parents were understanding of her.
