Chapter Two

At The Admin. Office.

..........................

Tay and I placed a knock at the office door, then a voice from inside ordered us to come in. As we walked into the office, my eyes swept over the green-white-green. The national flag which hung on the wall, the photo frame of Mr. President and other top government officials. Different certificates of award and ranks are also hung on the wall. The table is filled with books, files and documents.

We looked at each other in a very confused and flabbergasted manner.

"Good day, Ma." We greeted the elderly woman in unison. Completely dark in complexion and put on a black suit, flipping through the files on her desk while we settled down on the chair.

"Your face looks familiar, I think I saw this face yesterday?" Sagging down her eyeglasses, she asked, literally pointing directly to my face, while I agreed with a nod and said,

"Yes, Ma, I came here yesterday for my NYSC Letter. You're not mistaken."

"So, how may I help you?" She inquired. At that moment, I became terribly confused and stared blankly at Tay.

"Why are you looking at me? Tell her what you came for and stop staring at me." Tay fired.

"What is going on, I hope I am safe here?"

"Yes, Ma."

"So, what brought you to my office?" She asked for the second time. I quickly summoned all my courage and spoke up.

"Please, accept my apology for the little interruption. I was just contemplating on something, Ma. I am here to find out something from you. Do you, in any figure, relate to this beautiful angel who came to your office yesterday?" She looked at me confusedly.

"I don't understand what you mean by that. Go straight to the point and stop beating around the bush.'

"I mean, I met a young beautiful girl when I left your office. She came to your office just a few minutes after I left. She put on a blue gown." I explained, trying to give a clue description of her.

"Oh! That must be the daughter of the Army General. She was actually here to get her NYSC Letter as well. I am not related to them, but I know a lot about her family. What happened", she questioned.

"Nothing happened. I just want to find out from you if you knew her. I am glad you know a lot about her, and I would not mind if you could help me with her home address. I just want to see her," I explained further to her.

I sat with confidence, smiling joyfully at Tay, as she pulled out a piece of paper, boldly wrote the name of her home address and handed it over to me.

"You can reach out to her through the home address on the paper. I hope you are okay with that?" She asked in affirmation tone.

"Of course. You really helped me and my heart is dancing with joy already." I said with a facial expression as we headed out of the office.

While I held the paper in my hand and glanced at the inscription of the home address, all I did was smile, but along the line I had a sudden mix of feelings.

The woman mentions that she is the daughter of an Army General. My father hates soldiers with passion because of what he passed through in their hands many decades ago. Father had warned me never to cross the bridge to have anything in common to do with the forces' families, not even to marry from the forces' homes.

As that statement rained through my head, my heart quickly boiled down in bitterness. I wouldn't want to disobey my father. I've not disobeyed him before, not now that I have come of mature age. But, that will not make me stop the feelings I have for this elegant queen.

When I told my friend about it, he expressed his thoughts by saying,

"Dude, that is your father. Do not let belief, race, religion, distance, or whatever you may mention stop you from loving the woman that your heart sticks to. Love is a strong feeling that comes from the heart and once it is fixed, nothing can unfix it. Just pray over it and ask God for clear directions." I felt motivated by his words.

Although I had just met this girl, I didn't even know her before, but, the feelings I have for her are not what scientific knowledge can understand. It is beyond expression and human knowledge, because love, they say, is blind.
