Entwined Destiny

In the Lord of Fate's study, his apprentice goes about his daily duties. “Oh, there are so many wondrous objects here, and each one created to aid humanity. I wonder where each of these were collected and what role it had played in history." He reaches for the nearest object. “Like this orb?” As his hands touched the surface, it glows and images appeared one by one. He saw himself in these images with a woman. Then there was one where it was just her, she was smiling back at him and for some reason his heart ached. Unconsciously placing his hand over his heart. “Who is she?" A loud clunk outside snapped him back to the present. He sneaked the orb into his pocket and hurriedly rushed out of the room. When he reached his room, he gently placed it on a side table, but when we let go, the images disappeared and the orb once again appeared cloudy. Each day after completing his duties, he would sit in his room, and stare at the images and wondered what happened. Each day he longed for more information, more clues, but with each passing day, he gained no more information. The heaviness in his heart grew in to a hole that so wanted to fill. Longing for the pain to stop, he had once tried to forget about it and he had placed the orb back in the storage room but it called to him. Unable to resist it for long, he once again took it back to his room. After enduring months, he finally decided he needed to find that woman that countless times have appeared in front of him but he knows nothing about. But where do you start...

1.21 AuYeung LaiSan - Meeting in the Dreams

My eyes grew heavy as I reminisced about the night's events, I thought about what ZhiHin had said and then my mind focused on the General and how we "meet", that day when I was still in MeiMei's body and I fantasized about our future together.

I smelled freshly cut grass and as I looked around I was sitting in a field of grass. A figure walked near, but all I could make out was the silhouette. I raised my hand to shield my eyes from the sun, squinting to help me make out who the silhouette was approaching, whether it was friend or foe.

I yelled out, "Who are you?" But there was no answer. Soon he was close enough that my heart beat faster, fear had set in. Wanting to run, I started stepping backwards, as I turned to run, I felt my arm being grabbed and I quickly turned back to stare straight into the face of ZhiHin!

"Why are you here again and where are we this time?" I questioned him.

"We are in your dream", he said matter of factly.

He pulled me down to a sitting position and said, " I didn't have enough time earlier to explain. I wanted to tell you more about the situation."

He readjusted himself to face me as he spoke, "We seemed to have missed the appropriate time for the engagement and it seems that maybe MeiMei is not the other soul that is entangled with your thread."

"How do you know and what makes you think MeiMei is not that person?" I questioned him.

"Well, I was actually able to finally locate the name tag that had belonged to the other set of strings and the names on it were Feng TaiYung and Bai YiYi." The male soul always stays with the same family, meaning that they will always have the same last name. Didn't you just meet a man with the surname Feng?" he questioned solemnly.

"Yes, but how did you know that?" I questioned him back.

"Well… well, I know everything. I am the apprentice of the God of Fate!" he said sheepishly.

I titled my head and I glared at him, telling him that I was not buying that bull crap.

"Anyways", he started to change the topic. "So, MeiMei has an engagement with the Feng fellow but he has also called off the engagement. So unless the Emperor insists at the end that they get married I feel that there is another person that is his soulmate." he ended with a bit of doubt in his voice.

"But from what you said, it kinda does make MeiMei, Feng's soulmate since they already have the engagement from birth. Also, Feng is held at the Palace for this very reason, so I am sure the Emperor will insist on the marriage when MeiMei becomes of age."

"But as insistent as he is about the cancellation of the betrothal, doesn't it feel that the other person in his heart is more important than MeiMei is to him? Also, when you met the General in MeiMei's body, did you feel that MeiMei had any attraction to the General?"

His questions made me doubt my previous assumption.

"Anyways, at this moment it really doesn't matter who that other soul is, as long as she doesn't attach herself to the General. But just on the safe side it is important that you get engaged to the General when he returns to Capital City this time", he instructed.

"I know but this time he has come for official business, how am I going to meet him? It is not like last time where he especially came for the purpose of the betrothal!"

"You will have a chance, just make the most of it when you meet him," he said.

I was about to protest when...

"Miss! Miss!" Banging on the door. Miss. Miss, are you awake. I am coming in."

I opened my eyes and flinched at the light of the open window. Jo-yi, who had come in with a basin of water, was opening all the windows and hurriedly rushed around the room gathering pieces of clothing.

"What time is it?" I asked her.

"It is six in the morning, Miss. I know it is early especially after the events last night, but your grandmother has requested you visit her this morning before you have breakfast," she said as she was pulling me towards the desk to comb out my hair.

"Why does grandma want to see me so early in the morning?"

"I don't know Miss but we must hurry. I heard from the other maids that your grandmother is already up and is already praying at the ancestral hall. I only have a short time before she is expecting you in her chambers."

"Okay, okay," as I became more compliant with Jo-yi's efforts to get me ready.

Sorry it has been awhile, but I will update weekly from now on.
