A Night Before the Selection

Following behind Morgan was Mandy who was carrying the unconscious child named Felix. She couldn't help but just sigh from the thought of the child's plot just to avenge her older sister. Even if it was a childish act of a child, she could hardly overlook what just happened.

At a young age he tried to commit a crime. Or is it an ordinary thing in the monster society?Neither can she answer that on her basic information she knew about the norms of the society.

She brushed of the long ponder she was thinking when they were near the council hall. Along the way, Morgan already contacted the council member to gather in the council hall. So as they arrived, they were already there and seemed they have already started a discussion among themselves. One of them catches a glimpse of their arrival which made them stop and made a courtesy on Morgan.

"Lord Morgan" they all greeted as they made a respect to him by bowing their heads. As they lift their heads they saw Mandy behind and were carrying a child. It was then one of them went frozen as soon as she realized who that child was. She snapped back to her senses as Morgan started to speak.

"What a disappointment with how lousy the security is, that even a mere child trespassed the campus. What will happen if this incident continues to happen and not just a kid got in? Can you tell me what will happen?" It was a long silence which made Morgan sighed. He never expected them to answer so he continued.

"There's an assault just happened. And it was caused by one of the high rank family. Have you really done your duty properly? This child may be harmless but what if he was killed by assuming he was a slayer." Morgan stated which made them startled to hear. It was common for them to patrol around the campus for any intruder or student who tried to cause trouble or escape from class but this incident was different. A harmless child might be killed in an instant if campus guard noticed it ahead of them. Since a campus guard are ordered to kill immediately any suspicious creature within the campus without an identity band. The child they just brought did not have such item so most likely that would happen to him.

"Forgive us Lord Morgan. We will reflect on what just happened." One of them answered. Mandy was still carrying the child when they looked at the child. But as soon as they recognized the child they whip their heads towards Leah.

"As for Council Leah, you must watch carefully on your brother and better educated him well. He attacked a student in his young age not knowing what might happen to him." Morgan stated which made Leah tremble in fear. She now knows that her brother made a mistake that almost endangered him. She must apologize for his sake.

"I deeply apologize for my brother's action Lord Morgan. He was still a child that needs to be guided, I'll make sure to guide him well from now on. I will accept what punishment will be given to him." Leah stated. That's when Mandy realizes how much Leah care so much for his brother. She never thought she had a soft side for her family.

"Good thing it was a minor attempt, but if this happens again, prepare for a real punishment. I'll leave the child to your care now, better you'd lecture him for what he just did." He stated facing his back to them to leave the place.

'What? It was too fast, is that it? He easily let go of the child?' Mandy could not understand why she even came with him in the first place, doing nothing for the child to apologize to her. Of course, he was just a child, so she must not insist on pressuring the child about it. But, she wants to lecture the child too. She gave up on the idea and placed the small creature in the nearby couch.

Mandy was about to follow Morgan behind when Leah blocked her. She could only look at her questioningly, waiting for her to speak. She was hesitant at first but then, she exhaled as she gave in.

"I can't imagine why I'm doing this but I'll just say this once." She clenched her hand before continuing. "Even if I don't know what happened, thank you for bringing my brother safely."

Mandy was a little surprised at her words, she did not expect that from her. Only then Leah walked pass her and went to her unconscious brother. In the end, she did not manage to answer her since she walked out carrying his brother out from the room. The other member followed behind her giving Mandy one last look before exited the room.

Well, she never thought Leah still have a heart as a monster. Now that she witness it, humans and monsters aren't that far from each other. They also cared for their own kind and specially, when it was one of their family.

She went out from the vicinity of the Council's Building and was silently made her way back to the dorm building. Time really runs too fast, when she noticed it was already dark outside.

"They sure are lucky to have a complete family." Mandy could not longer hide her envy towards them. She once also wished to have other siblings aside from her. That's when she was still with her parents. That was also a bitter taste from her memory, which she no longer have.

Before she went back to their dorm, she made a detour in the Lake Noside. She sat on the grass, resting her chin on her both arm while embracing her both knee. She watched the reflection of the moon on the water, with the thousands particles of stars.

"I wish I could be with you Mom... Dad... " she whispered, crying silently. She had no idea how long she was there until she does not realize she falls asleep in that position.

A figure suddenly immersed behind a tree and trudge it way to Mandy. It scooped Mandy up and carried her away from the place. As they arrived at the dorm building, it effortlessly jumps up to the veranda of Mandy's room and take her to her own room, placing her gently and tucked a blanket.

"Sleep well Mandy." it stated as it planted a gentle kiss in her forehead. Looking one last look from her, it made its way out from the room.
