Chapter 17

When Cassius arrived from the Woven Kingdom, the first thing he noticed was that Anastasia was not in the tower. He had been having this feeling throughout his journey to the Woven Kingdom, and he only hoped she didn't do anything stupid. And now, as he made his way towards the tower, he could see the sad expression of the guards as they stared at him.

"And let me guess, she escaped," he said when he neared the guards. "Your Highness..." The guard quickly fell on his knees, rubbing his hands together. Cassius grabbed the guard by his neck.

"I gave you a simple task to watch her while I'm gone," he hissed. "Who could have known that you would let her escape under your watch?"

"When did she leave?" he asked.

"We... We don't know... We were asleep when she left a few days ago..." The guard stammered.

Cassius was starving. Anastasia should have been the one to welcome him and feed him with her blood. He wanted to know where she had gone. How could he not have realized she was gone while he was away?

It must be because of the ginger-haired woman the Elders had sent with him to the Kingdom. He despised the woman. Throughout their journey, all she could do was talk about going to different tea parties and turning into a doll. He didn't like her, and he made it clear to her that he was not going to have anything to do with her. Instead of taking her as his wife before his coronation, he'd rather take someone else.

Having had enough of the guards, he turned around and started walking away from there. When the guards tried to follow him, he ordered them to stay back. He walked out of the castle alone, through the deserted road. His eyes scanned the surroundings, sniffing into the air to find her scent. When Cassius didn't find her scent around, he felt even more angered. He didn't know where he should start from. He didn't know anything about her or if she had a family in this Kingdom. Even when he tried to find out, they told him she was a traitor. That was what everyone knew her to be.

The sudden urge to drink more blood overwhelmed him, and he could feel his fangs protruding out. He had tried drinking from a bag, but none of it satisfied him like Anastasia's blood. As Cassius continued walking, not minding that he was wandering too far from the castle, he knew there were dangers lurking around. His Kingdom had been having issues with other Kingdoms for a few years now, thus going out alone wasn't advised, as he could be attacked at any time. But right now, Cassius didn't care. He was a strong vampire, and he could protect himself from any danger. He just needed to find his prisoner and bring her back to the tower. Maybe then he would tie her feet with chains to prevent her from leaving.

"Prince Cassius…." He heard a voice and when he turned around, he saw Amelia standing there with a bright smile. She had so much blush on her cheek that she was looking all red.

"What are you doing here?" He frowned. "I thought I sent you back to your father's house."

"I was looking for you," Amelia smiled. "My father said I need to be with you all the time until we are married."

His frown deepened. That old man. He was going to put some sense into him once everything was over. He walked over to her.

"I thought I made it clear to you the last time that there won't be anything going on between us. I don't want you as my wife, Amelia."

"What?" She looked at him as if she was about to cry.

"I don't want you to waste your time following me around because, in the end, I wouldn't take you as my wife," he said.

"But—"

"I want you to go back home and meet your father," he said.

"You don't belong here." Without waiting to hear her response, he turned around to leave.

 "Prince Cassius!" She yelled.

He didn't respond and continued strolling. As he continued walking, he had a feeling that she was still in the Kingdom. She hadn't left yet. So, where could she be hiding? A lot of the people passing by recognized him, and they tried to act all nice in his presence. Cassius ignored them and continued his journey to find his little prisoner. It was night already, and most of the people had retired home. Few might be asleep. Just before Cassius could give up, he picked up a faint scent of Anastasia in the air. He could smell her fear. Where was she? He looked around his surroundings. He was in the woods.

"Anastasia!" He called.

All of a sudden, he heard a piercing scream through the air and he turned around. Anastasia.
