Yelena

I sit up in bed. Where the hell am I? What... oh. I remember now. I escaped to James before I blacked out. So... I must be at my base.

Shit, my side hurts. Wait... my side! I quickly pull up my hospital gown to reveal a brutal scar plastered across my skin. God, I need to get out of here.

I pull the needle out of my forearm and remove the clip taking my pulse before walking out of the room.

Still holding my side, I go straight for my room and lock the door. I change out of my hospital gown and pull a black dress over my head before walking back out.

Down the hall, I see a girl with short hair looking out of the window. The one who saved me! "Hello," I say walking up to her.

The girl smiles at the sight of me in good health. "Hello, Ms. Borisyuk!"

"You can just call me Yelena, thanks. Who are you?" I ask.

"Oh, I'm Elena Diaz, ex-spy and pilot at your service. That man you released the night you got arrested was my father, and I'm here to pay off his debt. My loyalty lies with you."

Hmm. Interesting, she's a pilot. "That night, it seemed like you were in a rush. Why?" She leans onto the window.

"You caught me as I was making a getaway. The life of being a spy is still stuck with me, so I can't stay anywhere for too long. But know that you can call me when you need me, and I'll be there."

Suddenly, an alarm goes off, triggering red flashing lights to spin around the hall. That's when it hits me; James.

We exchange looks before dashing in different directions. I turn a corner to see Anastasia with a snipe aimed at something through the window.

"Ana!" I yell, running towards her. "Hey. Are you okay?" She asks, still peaking through the lens. "Yeah. What the hell is going on?" I ask, looking out the window next to her.

"James is trying to escape. He hasn't hurt anyone yet, but he's a threat."

"Woah, Woah, Woah." I take the gun down from its stand. "What are you doing!? I had a clear shot!" Anastasia groans, turning to look at me.

"Don't kill him yet! He could be an asset!"

"So what happens if he kills our men because I didn't take that shot?" She asks, putting her hand on her hip.

"Just... give me a second." I sigh before rushing past her towards the exit. On a lockdown, they automatically lock all indoor rooms for my safety.

Including the stairs. Looks like those aren't an option. I run the other way, towards the elevator.

Damn this elevator is slow.

As soon as it opens, I run outside to see James being held in a headlock by Elena as a soldier gets ready to throw a grenade.

I run into the field, signaling for Elena to let him go. "Hold your fire!" I yell to the soldier. Elena reluctantly removes her arm from around his neck and takes a step back.

"You dumbass! What the hell are you doing!?" I ask as he sticks up his middle finger at Elena. She rolls her eyes before looking at me, confused.

"James is an asset, protected by the mafia, which is why I'm confused as to how he got into a fight with half of the compound!"

"I need to get out of here. The police are calling me in for questioning. They suspect that I'm working with you."

I roll my eyes before facing Elena again. "False alarm. Tell everyone to stand down and resume the normal schedule."

"Alright," She nods before squinting at James and marching back to the compound. Good to know I have a die-hard specialist on my side.

"Why the hell are you attacking my soldiers just to get out of here!?" I ask, turning back to him.

"Well, your men didn't exactly let me walk out of here. I need to get to the station in like two hours and it's a long drive." He says.

"Alright. Let's go then." I say, making my way up to the garage. James grabs my arm and turns me to face him.

"What do you mean, let's go? Don't you need to go to rehab or something? You literally just got shot two days ago."

"I'll be fine." He raises his eyebrows in surprise as I resume walking. "Don't worry, I'm healing already. Plus, I won't do any hand-to-hand combat."

With a shrug, he walks by my side as I approach his white Tesla. "...So what's the plan?" He asks as he climbs into the driver's seat.

Suddenly, I get a call on my phone. I take it out of my bra to see the caller ID labeled Viktor. "Hello?" I say, answering the phone.

"Hey, Yelena. Are you okay? I'm taking care of client when Anastasia called me and told me base was under attack."

"Yeah, everything is good here. It was just James. We have to go to the police department so I'll call you later."

"Okay, see you later."

I hang up the phone and turn to face James. "Do you have your police radio?" I ask him as he buckles his seat belt. Who buckles their seat belts anymore?

He pulls something out of his back pocket before handing the radio to me. "Always. So I ask again. What's the plan?"

"Drive." I grin as I buckle my own seat belt. I'll need it for this ride.
