Preparing the Field

Red or Nong Min woke up early in the morning. Nong Min already accustomed to waking at 04.00. He needed to tend his field. [I still have to prepare the fields].

Red took his bathing equipment and went to the public bathroom. Most farmers in Novantura would come at around the same time before the sun appeared. The public bathroom was separated for man and woman.

"Good Morning, Xiao Xi!"

"Good Morning, Lao Ta!"

"Good Morning, Xiao Min!" A muscular man greeted Nong Min or Red.

"Good Morning, Lao Pi!"

The familiar farmer greeted each other. The talked in the bathhouse was usually about preparing the field. They were all farmers.

Red sat on one of the seats and started to wash his body. His Red memory felt it was strange. He had never bathed in public with so many mortals, especially with the same gender. It was lucky that he came late at night yesterday.

Red quickly dried his body using some used clothes and went outside. He had another luck that Nong Min was usually a quiet person. People only greeted him and didn't engage in a long talk.

"Nong Min!" He heard a female voice. Red turned his body and saw a middle-aged woman called him.

She was an aged woman around 40 years old with a brown skin similar to Nong Min and other villagers. She had a common plump round face. Her hair also had started to turn white, while some aging spots and wrinkle had started to appear on her face. She wore simple brown clothes. While she looked common, she had a large smile.

"Good Morning, Xi San!" Red greeted the woman. Red didn't know, but he felt a bit of pain in his heart. It was a very shallow feeling, yet there was that feeling. [Is this a feeling? Regret? Jealousy?] As a divine being, Red had forgotten almost all feelings. His life was about competing with the stupid dragon and doing the holy mission.

"Good Morning, Nong Min! I heard you want to go to the Hundreds Palm City. Do you want to go with my husband? He will go to the city tomorrow." She asked. Hundreds Palm was the city that was the closer from Novanture.

Red was unprepared. He tried to check his Nong Min memory. It hadn't fully merged. Nong Min had planned to go to the city to purchase some seeds. "Oh! I planned to go there. However, I don't think I will go tomorrow. I still haven't fully prepared my field."

"Oh. Then I will tell my husband to find another friend to go." She seemed to go into a deep thought.

[The Nong Min memory didn't want to go with that man.] Red thought.

Red returned to his home. He took his farming field. [The most important is the rake.]

05.00, Red or Nong Min arrived in his field. [That dragon would laugh if he saw me farm such a small field.]

He continued to plow until it was midday. He took the time to rest and eat a lunch. He purchased it from an old villager who sold a wrapped rice to the farmer. Nong Min didn't have a wife, therefore he had no one to cook for him.

Red opened the wrapped rice. It was wrapped in a banana leaf which gave it a unique smell. Red saw a large portion of rice with a boiled chicken egg and some boiled vegetable. [What should I expect for 5 copper coins.] Red thought.

It took him almost a full day to plow his field. [This is harder than I expected.] Surrender had never been in Red's dictionary. If not, he wouldn't be able to turn his win and loss ratio with the stupid dragon.

He returned to his village and greeted Nong Xie, who was waiting in front of the village again. He always did this after farming. His brother went into the city last week and only told that he would be back soon.

"I will need to buy better seed for this farming season." Nong Min decided. While it was common to use last season harvest as the seeds for next season harvest. The seeds that sold in the city would give a better result.

Some farmers believed it was because the seeds in the city had been given a holy prayer by the priest. However, Red knew that it was only another business trick. The company had researched a special seed that would give a better result for the first generation. The future generation would start to diminish in quality.

This wasn't strange since the seed producers had better and controlled field for producing seeds. They also conducted many generations of selective farming to produce such seeds. This was especially in a modern world. Some seeds would even produce seedless fruit.

He went to his small storage next to his house. It was the place where Nong Min stored his previous harvest.

[These seeds are not good. The storage is too damp.] Red was a 10 stars spirit farmer. He could easily judge the quality of the seed after he touched. I could reach the Destiny Mission with this seed.

I needed to find a way to get better seeds. [Should I go to the city with Xi San's husband?]
