The promise

The next day Christian feels slightly better than the day before, he is warm to touch but able to get out of bed without nausea or knees that felt like they wanted to buckle under his weight.

Getting dressed, he pulled on the new pair of jeans and plain gray shirt given to him. He knew his hair was a mess.

His retina was slightly in pain, like a heartbeat it would continuously beat on and off. He ended up closing his eyes, temporarily masking his face with the palm of his hand.

Inhaling in deeply he would wait a moment before exhaling, repeating, but nothing worked.

He hears a knock on the door, Diya comes in with a small meal meant to be his breakfast. She noticed how he wasn't opening his eyes to even look at her.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

"I am just in a little pain…" He replied.

Diya makes him move his hands away to place her hand on his forehead. Taking her pointer finger and her thumb she pulls from his head along the glowing string until it is pulled taut.

Swiftly she snaps the rope like a thread to a needle, it vanishes into thin air leaving no trace of it existing. Christian stood there speechless as she played this odd little magick trick on him.

"How did you do that?" He questioned.

"It comes with the territory." She said with a snicker, "You need to eat for strength."

"Thank you I guess…"

"You might meet others with similar problems now, but you need to realize you won't be able to save them all. They will be used against the Crimson tide that comes in and out." She declared.

"I see.."

"You won't be able to escape now, not ever," Diya answered.

despite not fully understanding all that entails in the endless sanguine moon. He worried for those who also will be caught in the fire of transitioning to the way of the veil.

"If you have nothing more to say please leave."

"I will be back later." She said, "Please eat up today."

Staring down at the dish left for him, he is surprised to find sausage, scrambled eggs and two thick slices of wheat bread toasted with butter spread thinly.

Sitting down he chows down on the little food they provided to him, he picks at a little of each before setting the tray on the dresser. He recalled he knocked the swiss army knife under the bed.

He scrambled to his knees to check under the bed to retrieve the dull blade, he pockets the tool.

The door squeaks open, Melanie intrudes as soon as stuffed the blade away. She gives him what is barely a smile on her lips.

Another person comes from behind her, dressed in an all-black shawl neck wrap romper, toting her long brown knee-high boots.

"So you are Christian or the golden eye or whatever she called you." The stranger explained.

"Goldeneye? What stupid nickname is that?" Christian answered.

"Ask your dead mentor...hell if I know." She stated.

"Who are you anyway?" Christian argued, "Dead mentor?"

"Saniya, your life is mine now." Saniya introduced herself.

"I am no one to you, how ridiculous!" He shouted stubbornly.

Diya came in through the door cracking her knuckles, Melanie pulled a halberd from her back.

He holds his hands up as though he was surrendering, the knife pops out of his pants pocket, Christian reaches for it before anyone else could snatch it from the ground.

Saniya's grin contorted and twisted watching his failed attempt.

"I will not leave with you!" Christian shouted.

Gripping the small pocket tool for his life, brandishing the knife he feared for his well-being. Charging for Saniya, she apprehends Christian's tiny tool from his nervous and shaky hands.

"You are not equipped to play with toys yet, little man," Saniya said.

The swiss knife dropped to the ground from his fingers, her tight grip twisted his wrist with a simple incantation, Christian plummeted to the floor. A hastily cast spell that would place an enchantment on the feisty blonde.

"I knew he would pull something like this…" Saniya put it simply.

Christian fell into a deep sleep, the three glanced at him from above him in gales of laughter.

"Vampire assistants are so easy to tame...I have plans for him." Saniya said.

"You are really trying to piss Alice off aren't you?" Diya pondered out loud.

"Sure am sweetie!" Saniya smiled.

Taking her cellphone out she dials a number, Christian's hand trembling moving inch by inch to propel himself up. Melanie stomps her boot into his hand smashing side-to-side.

He groans out no longer making an effort to defend what little ability to wake he had left in him.

"I am not giving up…" Christian stammered, "Something keeps waking me…"

Saniya yanked Christian up by the hair on his head eyeballing the faint burning in his other retina.

"For now it is saving you, but later you confidently will be using it for my sake." Saniya boasted.

"Never…"

Christian felt intense fear flooding through his whole body, Saniya boosts him up from the ground letting him lean against her. She was fascinated by his body's natural counter to the magick.

He felt his heart may burst through his chest, his heart was pumping faster than usual to keep up with how fatigued he truly was.

His head fell forward against his chest, fighting the spell itself was the hardest thing for him to do.

The glaring brightness in his eye was flickering out the more energy he utilized, tumbling into her arms he could no longer latch to consciousness.

"One day...I will kill you…" Christian declared.

Saniya gently kissed the top of his head, she looked amused by this whole affair holding tight to his word. So deeply she wishes to see the day when Christian will deftly do the job he promised.

"I will make sure to give you all the motivation you need then."
