16 The Mintz Family

This was when the door to the room was swung open and a tall man with red eyes a lighter shade than Lucifer's stomped in, a crooked smile on his face, "Young master Black, didn't expect to have you as a guest today!"

Lucifer did not stand up at the arrival of this man and instead frowned slightly. The man immediately noticed what was wrong and cleared his throat, "I apologize. I was caught up in a talk with my father, so I -"

He immediately stopped talking when his eyes landed on the small figure next to the devil, and he narrowed his eyes before he slowly went over and sat down on the side couch to the right, "This is?"

Daphne gulped as she looked at this man. Was this another devil?

Lucifer sat up straighter, glancing at the man as he answered sternly, "Mine. My girl. Understand?"

Daphne frowned as she did not like the way Lucifer was calling her, but she had no place here to speak so she stayed silent. The man that entered did not hide the surprise and shock on his face when he heard Lucifer's response, and he opened and closed his mouth several times before stuttering, "Your. . . Your - Now since when did Young master Black start bringing girls around?"

"Since now," Lucifer replied, really annoyed at the eyes that were in his possession.

"Zack Mintz, get your eyes off of my person," Lucifer suddenly commanded, his voice cold as ice that scared even Daphne. The man named Zack almost instantly tore his eyes away from the girl as he cleared his throat.

"Sorry, just a little surprised." Zack was not surprised to hear that another girl had caught Lucifer's attention, since all men in the upper classes, especially a devil, had tons of women around them all the time.

This wasn't especially the case for Lucifer, who took much less interest in "petty women", as he called them, in comparison to other devils and vampires. However, he never lacked women around him.

Even so, Zack has never actually seen a woman around this young devil, especially sitting that close. And although Young master Black was possessive, he never cared about women, who he often complained were annoying, whiny, little devils of their own kind.

Zack couldn't help but take another quick glance at Daphne, but he quickly looked away, afraid of getting caught. He had to admit that this woman was indeed very beautiful, but not in a. . . normal way. It was almost as if there was a magnet or light around her, so it was hard not to be attracted to her.

However, if Lucifer Black had his eyes on her, then no one else stood even the slightest change.

The atmosphere was getting a little tense, so Zack quickly smiled and held out his hand, saying lightly, "Hello, I'm Zack Mintz. You've probably heard of me and the Mintz family already, so there isn't a need for introductions. Nice to meet you."

Daphne obviously had no clue what the Mintz family or who Zack Mintz was, but he seemed quite pleasant. Just as she was about to reach her hand out, she felt a piercing presence next to her that kept her hand glued to her body as her heartbeat sped up again.

She did not even have to look to know who was angry again. This devil sure was moody.

Zack also noticed and he pulled his hand back immediately, afraid of getting his hand chopped off if he held it out any longer, "Haha, Lucifer, you haven't introduced your person yet," he said, emphasizing the word your.

However, Daphne did not need this devil to introduce herself for her, "Daphne. . . a fairy," she did not forget to add. It seemed like what grade or what creature you were was always part of introductions here in Healeh.

"Ah. . . what fairy family are you from? The Bersas? The Gards?"

Daphne gulped, afraid that she would expose herself. Fairy family?! There were families of fairies? Did that mean different species or actually families?

"Um. . . Seraph. . . " She blurted out her real last name in confusion. She felt a chill run down her spine as she struggled to answer, but luckily, the next second, Lucifer interrupted.

"Why are you interested in so much?"

Zack's lips twitched, "Uh, I. . . I'm not hahaha, nothing, nothing at all!"

He was just trying to avoid the awkwardness of being in the presence of an angry devil but it seemed like it was not working. It was best for him to just not speak at all.

Lucifer glared at Zack before turning back to Daphne, raising one eyebrow as he glanced at her with a hint of suspicion in his eyes.

"She isn't from any prominent fairy family," Lucifer spoke for Daphne, which took her by surprise. However, she quickly went along, nodding her head furiously. Oh, so family meant an actual family.

"Zack Mintz, the Mintz family. Most powerful of the five vampire families," Lucifer introduced as well, staring intently at Daphne to see her reaction as he spoke. Not seeing any change in expression, Lucifer frowned slightly and looked away, tapping his finger rhythmically on the velvet armrest.

Zack sat up a little straighter, evidently proud of his background as he snapped his fingers and a maid entered, "Drinks."

The maid nodded and she quickly looked at the woman sitting on the couch before leaving the room.

Vampire. . . Daphne realized. No wonder he seemed to be subordinate to Lucifer. Even though he was the most powerful of the vampires, he was no devil.

After a while, the maid returned with a tray of drinks in her hand. She set down a glass of what appeared to be water in front of Lucifer and then a tea cup in front of Zack. Using the porcelain teapot, she poured a thick red liquid into the cup.

Soon enough, Daphne's nose caught onto the smell, and the confusion on her face immediately changed into shock and disgust as she jumped up from the couch, "Blood?!"
