Chapter 22 Treachery part 2

The soldiers hummed as they marched through the plains with heavy armor and weapons. Fortunately, they were supported by the mages, so they could go far without any problem. Their bodies were cooling down due to the ice spells and enchantments and they were getting constant rest on their way because the queen was in a frail state.

In the main camp

The king was kneeling next to the queen who was panting with pain. Her crescent eyebrows were arched down and her body continuously trembling from the intense poison clash with her immune system.

The king wiped her sweat with a cold towel, looking extremely exhausted despite his great strength. The young king knew he was at the end of the rope, but the love for his queen made his blood boil with adrenaline that kept him awake.

He was feeling impatient and irritated, but he couldn't do anything. He hoped they would arrive at the city by tomorrow noon or perhaps tonight.

" Cousin, will she survive?"

He asked with a tired look, sitting on the edge of the bed. His hands were clenched together, indicating he wasn't calm in this situation and Jocylee saw that.

She ordered her men to stand by the gate and prevent anyone from entering the tent, believing the king would execute them on the spot. His instability would cause a sharp drop in morals, making their soldiers unusable or weakened. Hence, it was a good idea to avoid bloodshed before it happens.

" She is a tough woman. Although she isn't strong like me physically, her heart had gone through something even more terrible than the battlefield."

She said lightly, sitting next to them. She caressed her face, knowing her end was inevitable despite their efforts. All she could do was pray for her survival.

" You are right. As long as she breathes, there will be hope for her."

He smiled tenderly with love that was overflowing for his queen, but he didn't notice the darkness that was hiding inside his heart beside its light. It was waiting patiently to destroy what he held dear and his sanity.

On the other side, the army was marching toward the city from another direction. All of them wore either golden or white armor that symbolized their power and justice as they hummed with the ode of glory.

The knights and soldiers were marching toward their death without any fear on their faces. They knew some of them would die or live, but in the end, their goal was to protect the city and save the innocent people from the invasion of Bastian iron knights.

As rivals of their forces, they knew exactly what was going to happen and they hoped they would end this without bloodshed. The former king of Bastia ruled the country with iron law, so Hellan knights despised his barbaric method, but the new king was wise despite his age. He agreed to end the long-lasting conflict between two countries.

However, the drums of war were heard again and the fire of war was starting the spread in their direction. Therefore, they once set out again to end this before the war of centuries happens again, shedding countless blood.

" My king, this is outrageous. We can't fight them head-on with our condition. They will slaughter most of our men even if we win this war. Also, their king is powerful enough to rival you and his cousin is infamous for her power. Our generals wouldn't be able to command our units when we had to face them."

Golla immediately reported the fact, not fearing any generals on the sight or the king. They fell into deep thoughts, knowing they were in a tight situation as he said.

Quality wise their troops are much better, but their conditions aren't in the best shape. Hence, they need to be careful and they didn't know the reason for this aggression in the first place.

" You are right, Golla. We can't possibly go into a fight this quickly. Thus, I have decided to negotiate with them before the war starts. As long as I can understand his intentions, it is possible to reach a deal."

The king nodded his head, believing it was a good idea to talk with them since the war isn't necessarily good for both of them.
