Xiran's POV
I couldn't get my head straight after meeting her. There was something about her, something more than that met the eye, something mysterious. Not only her blood but the way she carried herself as if nothing could faze her.
How was she able to resist me? It just didn't make sense. I was sitting on my regular chair in the hall watching everyone enjoy the party but my mind was preoccupied. I was still lost in thoughts when Sohlia walked up to me and sat down on my right leg putting her arms around my neck.
"What's on your mind? Señor," she whispered in her sexy voice. Sohlia was one of the high-ranking vampires. She was known for her ruthless ways and extreme intelligence. To top it off she was breathtakingly beautiful, from her slender legs to her fuller lips. She was the epitome of perfection. Her long raven black hair was open and flowed behind her like a waterfall while her deep blue eyes were fixated on me. She was my younger brother's girlfriend but that never stopped her from trying to get intimate with me. But, for me she was family and I never messed with family.
"Nothing," I politely removed her hands from my neck and pointed to the chair beside me so she could sit.
"Now, don't be such a killjoy, let the girl have some fun." She pouted.
"Where is Xifin? Why don't you go have fun with him?" I tried to be as polite as possible. To answer my question she pointed toward her left with her nimble index finger. I glanced in that direction and saw him clinging to a human girl, his hands pulling her hair to expose more of her neck so he could drink.
"Right, why don't you go join him?" I offered.
"Nops, I am full." She pointed toward her non-existent tummy.
"Then go dance, I think music is lovely tonight."
"Will you dance with me? Please, please." She made a sad face putting both her hands below it.
"I am not in the mood Sohlia." I tried to shrug her off but she didn't budge.
"Oh! come on now. We will have fun." She got up from my lap and took my right hand in hers and dragged me. I had no choice but to give up as I followed her unwillingly.
She took me to the centre of the dance floor. People scooped away to give us maximum space. A lot of eyes fixated on us, especially her. The low golden light was flowing on the dance floor from the chandelier above, as mesmerising waltz music played. She took my right hand and placed it on her back while placing her left hand on my shoulder. I raised my left hand and she placed her right hand in it as we began to sway rhythmically with the music.
"You are such an elegant dancer, I wish Xifin will dance like you." She replied shyly although this was all an act. She always tried to butter me up from time to time but it never worked, because I knew of her schemes.
"He is by far a better dancer than me, I am not sure why would you even say that." I feigned innocence.
"Nah, he is just an idiot. He lacks your grace and gentle touch." She smiled as I twirled her around and caught her in my arms.
I glanced ahead, Xifin was now watching us with an amused look on his face, the human girl had been cast aside. He sauntered over to us and held out his hand to his girlfriend. "Tch, tch why do you always have to spoil my fun." She asked him acting annoyed.
"Now, now my black bunny, let's give brother dear a break. He must be tired nought of your constant purring." And with these words he pulled his girlfriend closer to him, she made an annoyed face while I sighed in relief.
"You owe me another dance Xiran, don't think I will let you off that easily." She was still eyeing me.
"Always a pleasure meeting you brother." Xifin slightly sneered at me.
Although he was my brother, he looked completely the opposite. From his short black hair to his light blue eyes, nothing matched me. He was about two inches shorter than me in height and was way more muscular. He had adorned his body with multiple tattoos, the most prominent one was on his neck of a blackbird rising from ashes like a phoenix. A red diamond earring shined in one of his ears and there was a silver piercing on his tongue. He had a rugged look about himself and there was absolutely nothing gentle about him. Though he smiled it never touched his eyes, there was certain darkness to him that attracted others, especially humans. But, not everyone was lucky enough to escape his clutches. Never under my roof, though.
"Pleasure is all mine brother. Enjoy the party." I said politely before moving on leaving them both on the dance floor.
More guests had arrived, other high-profile vampires. I went to everyone, one by one greeting them all individually, making small talk and ordering my staff to serve everyone drinks. Human girls from today were all scattered around the hall offering their blood. Cairos was standing by, observing and ensuring that no one stepped out of line. I walked up to him and whispered: "No one can know about the Elven girl."
He bowed his head and whispered back: "No one ever will, Sire." I nodded and moved ahead.
Businessmen, CEOs, Actors, Directors, and Entrepreneurs all hid in plain sight in this society which was now hunting vampires. It was not easy to track us down though. Our super speed gave us agility and heightened senses generally gave us the upper hand. In some instances, we did get caught. Humans were learning quickly and assailing us with advanced weapons. But, it would be a long long time before they will be able to catch us all. Because they didn't know some of us were special, very special like me.
