Aria was very surprised to see that she had subconsciously bended wind and was floating some five feet in the air. Her hands had sometime left the railing and she was already above it.
Aria next turned to look at the person who had let out the gasp. It was a little boy. He could not have been more than four or five years of age and was looking open mouthed at Aria.
Aria smiled and descended to the ground. She knelt in front of the boy and spoke, "What is your name?"
The boy didn't say anything and continued to stare open mouthed at Aria. Aria shook her head and looked around, "Are you alone boy? Did you wander out here on your own?"
The boy: "....."
Aria: "....."
The boy: "....."
Aria sighed, "Anyway, you want to eat something?" As she said this, a small plate of food came floating in the air from the ballroom to the two.
Aria took the plate and handed it to the boy, saying, "Eat. It's delicious."
The boy took the plate but didn't do anything else, he continued to stare at Aria in a daze.
Just as Aria was beginning to get a little worried about the small boy, he opened his mouth and said, "Are you a fairy?"
Aria, who had just taken a sip of her juice, almost spat it out.
"What? A fairy? Where did you come up with that?" Aria asked with an amused face.
The boy still seemed a bit dazed as he spoke, "My mother tells me the story of a land of fairies. She told me that they are really beautiful and can even fly."
"And are these fairies found among humans, then?" Aria asked with an amused smile.
The boy nodded and said, "Some fairies like to stay among humans. They cut off their wings and come to live with us. But still they are able to fly."
Aria smiled to herself. The children of this kingdom were so innocent and pure. They were usually protected from the outside world until they were of age to join the academy.
Aria ruffled the boy's hair and said, "Silly boy. Have you not seen people use wind bending? They can fly with that."
The boy nodded with a serious look, "I have. But wind bendors need to use their fingers. Fairies don't."
Aria: "....."
The boy continued, "Wind bendors are normal humans. But fairies are so beautiful that they look unreal."
Aria let out an exasperated sigh. "Fine. Consider me a fairy if you want. But call me Aria, that's my name. What's yours?"
The boy's face broke into a sweet smile as he said, "I'm Hayden. Hayden Carl." He then started eating from the plate he had been holding all this time.
Aria was amused as she spoke, "You're quite friendly now. Why weren't you speaking earlier?"
Hayden spoke with his mouth full, "That's because, my mom told me not to talk to strangers."
Aria chuckled, "But you're talking to me now. Aren't you?"
Hayden replied with a look that said that Aria had spoken something very stupid, "You're a fairy. Fairies are supposed to be the nicest people alive. I can speak to them even if I don't know them."
