First Spell

Nessia and her teacher walked into a classroom with delighted faces.

''Alright, go back to your seat, Nessia. Class, you will get a piece of string on your table. Next, I want you to tie the crystal to the string like a necklace and wear it around your neck. That way, the crystal will always be connected to you and you won't lose it easily,'' Professor Lora instructed.

Nessia was on cloud nine to awaken such an element. Light was one of the rarest elements!

Nessia did what the professor told and wore it. She felt like being tickled as she wore it, and it stopped when she put her hands away from the necklace.

''Pretty weird, but maybe it's just protecting itself,'' Nessia thought to herself.

After a few minutes, every student in the class finished tying and wearing the crystal necklaces and waited for the teacher to speak.

''After that, let's try to cast the Levitation Spell. A light object will appear on your table,'' Professor Lora spoke.

A bird's feather landed on Nessia's table. ''Now, I'll teach you how to pronounce the spell correctly, in order for it to work. You need to stare at the object you want to levitate first, then chant like this...'' Professor Lora stared at the feather on Ledia's desk and chanted the spell very clearly. The feather slowly floated up as it followed the teacher's eye movement.

The feather did spins and flips. The class wow'ed as the teacher slowly put the feather back on Ledia's desk hands - free.

''Now, you'll try. Remember to move the feather slowly as you might fling the feather,'' Professor Lora told.

Nessia excitedly stared at the feather and slowly chanted the spell the teacher said.

Nope, the feather didn't levitate.

Not even by a single inch.

She blinked a few times, cancelling the spell, and cleared her throat.

After a few words, the feather slowly levitated up. When Nessia looked left, the feather flew to the left.

And when Nessia looked right, it flew to the right.

''It was amazing!'' Nessia thought.

She caught the feather with her hands and put it down on the table, wanting to try again. This time, she tried to make the feather spin, but failed.

''Then how did the teacher do it?'' Nessia wondered.

She gave up on it and just practised making the feather land on the table.

The teacher signaled for everyone to stop chanting the spell. The lunch bell rang and Professor Lora instructed, ''Class, please follow me to the cafeteria. There will be other classes there, so please stay with me at all times.''

Nessia and the others followed Professor Lora down to the cafeteria. On the way, there were big windows in a hallway showing the academy's beautiful garden. She took a moment to glance at the garden, then ran to catch up with the class.

Inside the cafeteria, there were a lot of long tables and benches with banners indicating where classes should sit.

Professor Lora led the class to a table and spoke, ''Wait here. Food will be served shortly.'' Professors (aka teachers) were rushing to settle the students down and to the kitchen to check if the food was ready.

The food was finally served and the students became quiet to focus eating their meal. The meal has hand - picked mushrooms in Elementia, mushroom soup, and rice.

Nessia was picky when it comes to food, but she couldn't choose what she wanted. She sighed and sipped the soup. ''It is tasty! What kind of mushroom soup is this?'' Nessia thought.

She drank the whole bowl of soup and ate the rice together with the mushrooms.

''I didn't expect the academy to have such good mushrooms,'' Nessia thought, after finishing her meal.
