Huge plumes of smoke rise from a huge keep, explosions constantly occurring around it with fires bursting to life in random locations. The intense blizzard almost obscuring everything from sight isn't even able to dampen the flames, them being of magical origin preventing regular means from halting their advance.
Atop the keep there were thousands of heavily armoured men using artillery that'd been mounted on the walls, men sprinted from here to there with ammunition for them, buckets of water to try to douse fires, and wounded men who'd been hit by stray projectiles.
A soldier pulls a rope that allows a trebuchet to release a scattershot of huge stones, he looks over the wall and pales when he spots thousands of creatures clambering up it to reach them. He turns and shouts at his commander, "SIR!? I THOUGHT THE CHAMPIONS DEALT WITH THEIR LEADER! WHY ARE THEY STILL ATTACKING!?"
The commander shakes his head, "I DON'T KNOW! JUST HOLD THE POSITION, THEY DON'T HAVE ANY MORE REINFORCEMENTS, IF WE CAN JUST HOLD O-AARRRRGGHHHh!" he screams as a huge bat-like creature swoops down and impales the man on its talon, flapping its wings and flying away with the corpse as the soldier watches in terror.
*CRASH!*
The soldier whirls around to look at what the sound was, and immediately loses control of his bowels when he spots that the part of the wall that the artillery had been sitting on had disappeared entirely, being replaced by a collasal wormlike creature covered in scales. He stares hard into its huge maw, slightly grateful it didn't have eyes for him to stare into.
*CRUNCH!*
The commander who'd been impaled was carried high into the sky, high enough where he could get a look at the situation around the keep without the blizzard obscuring everything... He knew he was dead, but he wished to life long enough to see if his people had hope...
...
His eyes buldge when he spots a sea of black... He'd thought it was just scorched land at first, but he quickly released it was made from millions of demons. "Gods, mercy..." he mutters as his life fades, hope entirely lost.
At a fortified position within the keep, a meeting between five people was going on, they all stood around a floating black stone that crackled with red lightning, releasing an ominous glow that promised only death and destruction.
A bald, black-skinned man wearing glorious gold armour with a grey cloak over it looks at everyone, "Quickly, we have no time to wait anymore... Every second longer means thousands more dead." he quickly says in a voice commanding of respect.
A middle-aged woman with brown hair, wearing luxurious Arabian robes nods, "Yes Tyrael, we have no time to waste... Leah, quickly infuse Azmodan's soul into the Black Soul Stone."
The young woman with a similar appearance standing next to her steps forwards, "Yes mother." she says before thrusting her hands at the stone, causing black energy to envelope her as a bright red light is pulled within the stone... After a moment the stone fell silent, and Leah, the girl responsible for sealing Azmodan's soul within it stumbles weakly.
"Leah! Are you alright?" says a black-haired man wearing dark blue robes and wielding a staff as he catches her, his soft face shaped into a frown as it looks over her warily.
Leah "Y-yeah... I'm fine Mathias, thanks." she mutters, a slight blush on her face.
Mathias nods, "Don't mention it, it wouldn't do for you to get injured just as we are so close to achieving what no-one else could." he says with a smile.
*Smack*
A 7ft man, made from pure muscle claps Mathias on the shoulder, his untamed white hair cascades over his shoulders, matching the length of his beard which rests on the heavy plate armour adorning him. "Haha! You two need a room! After we've destroyed the soul stone let's drink until we can't stand!" he exclaims happily.
Mathias sighs and taps the barbarian's hand with his staff, "Unhand me Barnock, you forget that I am not as... Physical as you are. If you continue this you might one day break someone." he says.
Tyrael "We can converse after the threat has been dealt with!" he says, quickly walking towards the roof with Adria, the Black Soul Stone floating behind them.
Mathias and Barnock nod to each other, the former assisting Leah to walk up the stairs. The blizzard is still raging, but a large ward cast by Adria shields them from the winds, as well as the projectiles heading their way. The shield ripples as explosions ricochet off of it, shooting back at the unfortunate demons who'd shot them.
Tyrael "Now, Adria you said something about a ritua-" *BOOM!*
Suddenly all of the guards manning the roof exploded, the blood and gore previously comprising their bodies swirling around in the air before forming a pentagram on the floor. Adria spins and swings her staff at Tyrael, it lights up with a purple energy which sends Tyrael shooting away from the force, he collides with the shield which ripples in response, sending him towards the ground at an even greater speed.
Any ordinary man would have immediately died from this, especially when it was so unexpected... Fortunately Tyrael wasn't an ordinary man, even so, the Angel of Justice was heavily injured and unable to move without causing irreparable harm to himself.
Barnock "Adria!? YOU BETRAY US!?" he roars, the previously happy man lost as rage fills him.
Adria smirks as she waves her hand, levitating the Black Soul Stone to the middle of the pentagram, it and the ritual circle beginning to glow red.
Mathias "Damn! We have to stop her, if she unleashes the Seven Evils it'll mean the death of everything!" he exclaims, pointing his staff and firing a volley of glowing blue magic missiles at the witch.
I think it's fairly obvious what universe this is and who these people are, a cookie to those that know it :P
As always, if I missed anything please let me know.
