First Pet (2)

Mrs. Hale was given the duty to take the ones who had awakened to the bestiary for their first pet and she was more than happy to do so.

Though these kids may not be rich enough to afford their own eggs, they are still people who would become pillars of society, and having an impression of helping them while they select their first pet would be forever imprinted on their minds.

It was networking and having many friends who would be of help when the time arises is a good thing. Even if not everyone here would be thankful, a few would and there is nothing wasted of hers by helping them choose their first pet.

After a few minutes, they reached the bestiary.

"Welcome to Alliance's bestiary", the receptionist greeted the teacher and the students from the Verlon High School. She recognized the school's symbol as she was not a newbie who never went through this process.

She knew that today was the day that students would go through the ritual of talent awakening, and the successful ones would get a chance to get a beast egg for free for their first contract.

Though these eggs are free for the students, they are not actually free. The adventurers or the military had to fight beasts in the wild to get these eggs. The reason why the alliance is giving them for free was that they knew that not everyone could afford them and that could stunt their growth if their first contract was postponed.

The alliance is not at a stage where it can ignore the chances of getting talents from the poor community.

The eggs might be free for the students but they can't be sold to others. There were incidents in the beginning where some students who were too poor, sold their beast eggs for some money enough to uplift their families from their suffering.

Though what they did may not appear wrong, as they did that to help their families, but in the long run they were wrong. This act stopped them from becoming beast-tamer. Since they had their free pet egg once, they can't get from the alliance again.

To become a beast tamer, they had to go into the wild and tame a beast but that only ended up in the deaths of a lot of students. A lot of talented students who should have become the pillars of society ended up dead.

This alarmed the higher-ups. They came up with a decision so that these things won't happen again in the future.

After the students choose their pet egg, they have to make a contract with the beast in the bestiary under the supervision of the staff. Only when the staff verify that the students indeed made a contract with the beast inside the egg, would they let the students leave.

Even when the alliance brought terms that the students had to make contract with the selected egg, before letting them leave, some clever ones tricked everyone into that they made a contract but in reality they didn't.

The alliance got wind of that, and after that made sure that every student had made a contract. Only once they verify that would they let them go. There is no other way.

The receptionist took the teacher and the student to the area where the eggs were placed.

"Students, congrats on your awakening", the receptionist spoke with a smile on her face, "To reward your awakening, every year, the alliance would give the students access to the Beast Egg pool, where you can find a lot of eggs from various beasts".

"Besides the Bestiaries maintained by the alliance, there are only a few bestiaries maintained by some big clans that have that many eggs. Since the ones here are from families who had no beast tamers or have weak beast tamers in their families, making them difficult to buy eggs from other bestiaries".

"For the betterment of the Federal Alliance, the higher-ups gave this chance to everyone, to get a beast without burdening them before they can start their journey. Make sure that you select a beast egg, which you find suitable for you".

"Now go pick one for yourself among the eggs present here", she ended her speech.

The speech highlighted that they were getting this chance because of the Federal Alliance and that they should be thankful to them for being loyal.

Moreover, the receptionist was saying that the alliance is on the lookout for talented youngsters and they have to show their strength in order to get more rewards from the alliance. This would increase their chances of improving themselves.

Though she didn't say those words they were implied.

There was a reason to speak in such a way, as the higher-ups believed that it would be the best approach. If they start to preach like some religious choir, the students may get frustrated thinking that the alliance is seeking to restrict them or control them and they would resist with all their strength.

That would not be good.

So the Alliance higher-ups prepared a short speech, which would be repeated by the receptionists to the students who came to get their free pet egg.

Even though the higher-ups made sure they wouldn't antagonize the students and cause them to move away from them instead of towards them, having the same speech repeated every time would be too inconspicuous.

So there are many alterations done to those speeches. No receptionist would repeat what another one said. Even the receptionists were trained to change their vocabulary every time they gave a speech to the students. This was to make the students believe that she hadn't read that out from a pamphlet.

People tend to believe what others say from their hearts not from what was written on paper. So what these receptionists say has to appear natural and for that, they need to make mistakes while giving the speech.

Though the students were only eighteen, that wouldn't mean they were stupid. There would be many clever ones, the ones the higher-ups are aiming for. No matter what, those students shouldn't go down the wrong path.

If they did, it was not just the loss of those talents but also what the alliance would lose fighting against such talents. No matter what, these talents have to join the Alliance, and help make it a better place.

It doesn't matter what career they decide to take, as long as it would help improve the alliance.
