The days at Avalon Academy unfolded with a rhythm that Aira was beginning to find comforting. Between classes and her part-time job at Mr. Lixon's magic shop, she managed to carve out time to practice her magical abilities. Ruby had been an invaluable guide, helping her understand the basics of channelling magic.
In a pond in Almonds Park, Aira stood with her eyes closed, focusing on the feel of magic coursing through her veins. She had discovered that her magic was not the dark, sinister force it was purported to be in the novel, but rather an elemental power, one that seemed to control and make nature.
"Alright, Aira, let's try water magic today," Ruby suggested, fluttering nearby with an air of excitement. "It's one of the more versatile elements and can be very powerful if mastered correctly."
Aira nodded, feeling a strange sense of anticipation. She extended her hand towards the small pond in the grove and concentrated. Slowly, tendrils of water rose from the surface, swirling around her fingers in a delicate dance.
"That's it, Aira! You're doing great!" Ruby cheered, her tiny hands clapping in delight.
Aira's confidence grew as she manipulated the water, forming intricate shapes and patterns. She could feel the connection with the element deepening as if it were an extension of herself.
Just then, Mr. Lixon appeared, watching her with a thoughtful expression. "You're quite adept at water magic, Aira, Now you have to learn how to generate water.," he said, his voice carrying a hint of surprise.
Aira wasn't surprised at his sudden visit as she knew he could come any time.
Aira lowered her hand, letting the water fall back into the pond. "Thank you, Mr. Lixon. I still can't generate water, I will need more help in future"
Lixon nodded, then motioned for them to sit. "Aira, there's something we need to discuss. Your abilities are impressive. But there is one thing that, you must be careful about. Not everyone will accept or understand them."
Aira listened intently, aware of the weight of his words. "What do you mean?"
"In this world, elemental magic is highly valued, as the magic of previous saints and saintess is also stored. I am pretty sure that Ruby told you.
"Wait, you can see Ruby!!" proclaimed Ruby in shock.
"Yeah, but I don't know how. You seemed to keep her secret but I got excited and words slipped. Never mind." said Mr. Lixon.
"Seems like we also have a new mystery to solve Aira" said Ruby excitedly. Aira nodded in confusion.
"So where was I, hmm...yeah, but there are those who fear it, your elemental magic—especially powerful elements like water and fire. Revealing your true capabilities too soon could attract unwanted attention we still don't know how divinity will work," Mr Lixon explained.
Aira pondered his advice. She remembered the original novel, where Aira Alberst was vilified not just for her actions but for her perceived affinity with dark magic. Her goal was to avoid such a fate.
"I understand, Mr. Lixon. I think it's best if I reveal only my water magic for now," Aira decided, her voice resolute.
Ruby chimed in, "That sounds like a good plan, Aira. We can work on mastering your other elements in private until the time is right."
"Yeah, I had the same idea," said Mr Lixon.
The next day at the Academy, Aira felt a bit less nervous. Just then, Sophia sneaked up behind her and startled her, making both of them laugh while Ruby remained in shock. As they walked to class, they spotted Beatrice, who seemed to be looking for someone.
Sophia and Aira decided to surprise her from behind, causing Beatrice to jump in fright before all three of them burst into laughter.
"What are you doing?" Asked Sophia.
"Hey, we need to get to class. Mr. Magnus will explode if we're late," Beatrice said, chuckling and ignoring her question.
The three girls quickened their pace, making their way through the bustling hallways of the Academy. Students were scattered everywhere, some engaged in animated conversations, others rushing to their classes.
As they reached the classroom door, they saw Mr. Magnus already at the front, writing on the board. They quietly slipped into their seats, hoping to go unnoticed. Mr. Magnus turned around just as they sat down.
"Ah, just in time, ladies," he said with a hint of a smile. "Today, we are continuing our lesson on magical theory. I trust you all did the reading?"
The class groaned collectively, but Aira, Sophia, and Beatrice exchanged knowing looks.
During a break, the three of them gathered around a table in the courtyard, discussing the morning's lesson.
"Mr. Magnus wasn't so scary after all," Aira admitted, taking a bite of her sandwich.
"Yeah, he's pretty cool once you get to know him," Sophia added. "And his classes are super interesting."
Beatrice nodded in agreement. "Just wait until we start the practical lessons. That's when the real fun begins."
The bell rang, signaling the end break and the start of Professor Senyu's practical flying session. The students gathered their belongings and headed to the training grounds, where Professor Senyu should be waiting.
"Welcome, everyone," Professor Elara began, her voice carrying over the chatter of the students. " today Professor Senyu can't take the class as she is busy regarding the holy lyre. So today, we'll be assessing your magical abilities and working on improving them. Let's start with Aira."
Aira stepped forward, her heart pounding. She closed her eyes, concentrating on the feel of magic within her. Slowly, she extended her hands, and water began to materialize, swirling around her fingers before cascading into a small fountain.
"Excellent control, Aira," Professor Elara praised. "Now, let's see if you can generate water directly."
Taking a deep breath, Aira focused harder. A moment later, a stream of water erupted from her palms, splashing onto the ground. The class watched in awe as she manipulated it into various shapes.
"Aira, I am proud of you," said Ruby encouraging Aira.
"Well done, Aira. Keep practising," Professor Elara encouraged, moving on to the next student. "Sophia, you're up."
Sophia stepped forward, a confident smile on her face. She raised her arms and levitated almost everyone on the ground leaving them shocked.
"Impressive, Sophia. Your control over levitation is getting stronger," Elara remarked. "Beatrice, It's your turn"
Beatrice took her place and closed her eyes. A soft glow emanated from her hands, gradually intensifying until a bright beam of light shot into the sky. She directed the light at the unpure stone and poured it in a second.
"Beautiful work, Beatrice. Your precision is remarkable," Elara said, clearly pleased. "Asahi, it's your turn."
Asahi stepped forward, his demeanour serious. He focused on his palms, and flames began to dance around his fingers. He extended his arms, and a stream of fire burst forth, illuminating the area.
"Very good, Asahi. Your fire magic is strong and controlled," Elara noted. "Now, Issac, let's see your lightning magic."
Issac was in Ignis. It suited him.
Issac stepped forward. He raised his hands, and electricity crackled between his fingers. With a sharp gesture, bolts of lightning shot from his hands, striking a nearby target with precision.
"Excellent, Issac. Your lightning magic is powerful and precise," Elara commended.
As the session continued, Aira found herself next to Issac. She couldn't help but feel a connection, sensing the raw power of his lightning magic.
"Impressive work," Issac said, noticing her glance. "Your water magic is really something."
"Thanks," Aira replied, smiling. "Your lightning magic is amazing too."
"I guess our magic will be strong together against an enemy" proclaimed Issac. Aira nodded and said," It's a great idea."
They shared a brief, friendly conversation before Professor Elara called the class to attention. "Great work, everyone. Remember to practice your elements regularly. Class dismissed."
As they headed out, Aira couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. The practical session not only boosted her confidence but also brought her closer to her classmates.
Later that day, Aira used a high-speed potion for the first time on her way home. She zoomed through the streets, exhilarated by the sensation. However, she didn't know how to stop and ended up colliding with a man dressed entirely in black. He caught her, steadying her with surprising ease.
"Thank you," Aira said, slightly breathless. The man nodded but said nothing, disappearing into an alley as quickly as he had appeared. Aira noticed a girl with blonde hair sneaking into the alley as well.
"Was that Beatrice?" Aira wondered aloud.
"No, why would she be here? She's the main lead; she wouldn't be in such a place," Ruby replied, dismissing the thought.
Ignoring the encounter, Aira continued home, where Ruby diligently checked if she was injured.
The next day, Aira returned to the magic shop for her usual shift. As she was tidying up, Mr. Lixon approached her with a curious expression.
"Aira, I've been observing your progress with mana flow," he began. "I think it's time for you to start working with potions."
Aira's eyes widened in shock. "Really? Are you sure I'm ready?"
Mr. Lixon nodded. "Absolutely. You've shown great promise. In fact, why don't you tell me more about your recent achievements? I heard you managed to generate water on your own."
Aira beamed with excitement. "Yes! Let me show you."
She extended her hand, focusing her energy. A small stream of water materialized, spiralling gracefully from her palm. Mr. Lixon watched, impressed.
"That's remarkable, Aira," he said. "You have a natural talent."
As Aira worked, mixing potions and organizing supplies, she couldn't help but think about the man in black and the girl she had seen earlier. She had a nagging feeling that there was more to the encounter than met the eye.
"Aira, can you bring out the new batch of healing potions to the front?" Mr. Lixon called from the shop floor.
"Sure thing!" Aira carefully carried the tray of potions to the display counter, arranging them neatly. As she did, she noticed a customer browsing the shelves.
"Good evening," Aira greeted the customer, a woman with striking green eyes and black hair. "Can I help you find anything?"
The woman turned, her gaze piercing. "Yes. I'm looking for a specific type of enchanted crystal. It's for a protection spell."
Aira nodded, recalling the section where they kept enchanted crystals. "Follow me, please."
As they walked to the back of the shop, the woman introduced herself. "I'm Seraphina. I'm new to Avalon and still getting acquainted with the local shops."
"It's nice to meet you, Lady Seraphina. I'm Aira," she replied, leading her to the shelf with the enchantspirallingls. "Here we are. These crystals are imbued with protective spells. Is there a specific type you need?"
Seraphina examined the crystals carefully before selecting one. "This should do. Thank you, Aira."
As they returned to the counter, Mr. Lixon approached. "Ah, Seraphina. A pleasure to see you again. I see you've met my assistant, Aira."
"Yes, she's been very helpful," Seraphina replied with a smile.
"Aira, I need to give you something," Seraphina said, her voice hurried. She pulled out a delicate blue locket and pressed it into Aira's hand. "This is for you. It's important. Keep it safe."
Aira looked down at the beautiful locket, its sapphire gem shimmering. "Thank you, but why—"
"It's....just keep it wearing," said Lady Seraphina With that, she rushed out of the shop, leaving Aira standing there, bewildered.
After Seraphina left with her purchase, Aira turned to Mr. Lixon. "Do you know her well?"
"Seraphina? Yes, she's a skilled mage specializing in protection spells. She's been a customer here for a while," Mr. Lixon explained.
Aira nodded, storing the information away for future reference. The rest of her shift passed uneventfully, and as closing time approached, she felt a sense of satisfaction from the day's work.
"Good job today, Aira," Mr. Lixon said as he locked the shop door. "Remember, if you ever need help with your magic or anything else, don't hesitate to ask. Tomorrow we will practice fire magic."
"Thank you, Mr. Lixon. I'll keep that in mind," Aira replied, feeling grateful for his support.
As she walked home with Ruby by her side, Aira couldn't help but think about the strange encounter with Seraphina and the locket now resting in her pocket. She felt a mix of curiosity and apprehension about what it might mean.
"Ruby, what do you make of this locket? I don'tknow but it fills close to my heart." Aira asked, pulling it out to show her tiny companion.
Ruby fluttered closer, inspecting the, intricate glowing sapphire. "It's definitely magical, but we should get it checked by someone who specializes in enchanted objects. Mr. Lixon might know more."
Aira nodded in agreement. "Let's show it to him tomorrow. For now, I'll just keep it safe."
Suddenly, she received a notification from her school group about an upcoming magic tournament in a week. The news filled her with excitement as Ruby fluttered around.
