The next day he calls off work determined to explore the town in search of Dominique. The days grow colder by the minute causing him to bundle up more in different many layers.
He often stops to get out of his car asking unusual questions, they often raise a brow at him turning away.
Christian visits a local park to unwind; his expedition seemed fruitless with little to no answers. He quickly figures the world they live in has almost no contact to affect mortal lives.
A couple whizz past him on bikes, children shout in shrieks of laughter playing with bubbles that reflect the colors of the rainbow when the sun catches, the bubbles blob around in the air shortly popping after in mid-flight.
He sighs softly ready to go back home lifting himself from the seat, "I have been silly all day…"
Christian's cell phone vibrates in his pocket answering it swiftly, "Hey, what's up?"
"Hey, it's me Lenia, you know Alice's co-worker."
"Well this is short notice, we never really talk…"
"You live by her though; Alice didn't show up for work today Christian."
"What are you talking about?"
"Alice didn't show up for work Christian, can you check on her please?"
Christian automatically hangs the phone up not answering her; the cellphone once again vibrates in his pocket. He doesn't answer this time leaping to his car driving fast as he can pass lights zooming to the second hill on the opposite of his slope finally halting when he reaches her house.
The first observation he makes is her home has been broken into, the windows outside are smashed in, the door hangs off its hinges whilst everything inside looked like a struggle had broken out.
Footprints laced in the blood can be seen on the pavement in front of the door.
No one seemed aware this happened he thought to himself almost like time was able to be frozen, but he was only able to become receptive with the help of a man who contacted him with a warning of this advancement, "Alice…"
"But why of all people her?" He asks when it hits him spontaneously.
Alice has always had unusual things happening to her from the time she moved in, Christian feels like she probably has never noticed them, cats trail behind her, and she has an absurdly godly amount of good luck on her side that often would not make sense.
Doors have unlocked in her presence that would not budge even with the most proper key, but she has also harbored some of the worst luck as well such as a child not making it after dragging him from an unpremeditated fire when the child was only sticking a kettle on the stove, but what was the oddest about it was what he said to her hauntingly.
"The great cat awaits your presence please greet him…" He said with brilliant purple eyes. Not even his parents understood what it meant. Why purple eyes of all things to shine so amazingly at the peak of death, was it possible it was something pulling through his mind speaking through his lips?
I was there the day that happened…but I was too afraid to do things Alice did with so much courage.
She never showed regrets in her actions even when things looked bleak, Dominique knew about Alice because she also held something equally worth their time to pursue.
Alice sometimes comes off strong and stubborn, but it's because she has a shining thing to protect.
"Do not turn around…"
Christian's body froze to hearing the words alone, "Do I know you?" he asks nervously staring ahead.
"I know you been there Christian, do not play the fool now."
"A fool would not have come here." Christian replies turning to face Dominique with a smile. He strolls back to his car sitting on the hood, his overconfidence only agitated the man in front of him.
Dominique becomes irate kicking Christian in the stomach times yelling a chain of slurs and cursing his destiny wishing nothing, but his ill will upon others till Christian slid to the ground holding his stomach withering in pain, "Dare you to mock me again like you know everything."
Christian's car keys had fallen to the ground catching Dominique's eyes; he bends down to pick them up dangling them in his fingers.
"Get up…we are going right now."
"What?"
"You heard me or do you prefer me dragging you by the hairs on your head?"
He stumbles to his feet using the car to help pull himself up from the ground; Dominique opens the door to the driver's side handing Christian a blindfold, "Put it on and shut up."
Christian does as he is told to quiet the time listening to Dominique unwind till they reach the location, he pulls the blinds off already taking note of how the house is hugely based in a thicket of wood.
Assuming right away he is far from civilization, he can see fog rise from the distance and under his feet. He is pushed inside the house only to realize many eyes following him down the hall to a small room where Dominique introduces him to his new life.
Dominique fishes the chains welded to the top of the bed frame that got caught behind, he sits down patting the bed silently asking him to sit.
He is terrified of the notions, he could feel his body tremble, he could feel his heart beating deep into his chest, his breathing becoming erratic watching Dominique dust the chains off laying them on the pillow.
"This is your new home, you wanted to find me so badly again." Dominique expresses in amusement, Christian stands there holding tight to his throat looking at the chains.
