The Haunting Elevator Incident in the Office Building

Jing Xiu'er worked on the 15th floor of an office building and used the elevator every day. The lower 13 floors of the building were designated for residential use, and her elevator went directly to floors 14 and above. It never stopped at the lower floors. The elevator had its own generator, so power outages or getting stuck in the elevator were unheard of. However, Jing Xiu'er always felt uneasy, and one day, an unexpected incident occurred.

It was a Monday morning, and Jing Xiu'er had overslept. By the time she arrived at the office, she was already running late. She waited on the ground floor for a few minutes, and when the elevator arrived, she rushed inside. Since it was now working hours, the usually crowded elevator was nearly empty. Besides Jing Xiu'er, there were only two other occupants – a mother and her daughter.

Jing Xiu'er unintentionally took a glance at them. They were strangers - the mother wore a common floral winter coat, and her daughter had braided hair, looking dainty and cute. Based on their attire, they seemed like outsiders, and Jing Xiu'er wondered why they were heading to the office area.

Jing Xiu'er was known for her helpful nature, and she couldn't resist asking, "Are you looking for residents of this building?"

The mother confirmed, "Yes."

Jing Xiu'er smiled and explained, "You've taken the wrong elevator. This one is for the office floors. But it's okay; I'm getting off shortly. You can ride it down to the first floor and enter from the south door to find the residents."

The grateful mother said, "Thank you; you're a kind person." Then she turned to her daughter, saying, "Call her 'Auntie.'"

"Auntie," the little girl with sparkling eyes obediently responded. Suddenly, the elevator's lights flashed a few times and then went out. Jing Xiu'er heard a thud and realized that something was amiss – the elevator had lost power!

Jing Xiu'er remained calm and reached for the alarm button, but there was no response. The little girl started to cry, and her mother tried to console her, saying, "Don't be scared, dear. Uncle will come to rescue us soon, alright?"

Jing Xiu'er tried to reach out and comfort the little girl, but when she searched around the pitch-black elevator, her hands found nothing. She asked in a trembling voice, "Where are you?"

The little girl replied amidst sobs, but Jing Xiu'er couldn't make out the words. Suddenly, the elevator door "whooshed" open, and a bright light blinded Jing Xiu'er's eyes.

"Is there anyone? We're in here!" Jing Xiu'er shouted as the elevator had come to a halt between the 13th and 14th floors. People from outside pulled her to safety, and she lay on the ground, panting heavily.

"There's no one else in there," a person reassured her amidst the confusion. "It's impossible – there was just a mother and her daughter inside."

Jing Xiu'er struggled to stand and shined her flashlight into the elevator, but there was nothing there. Her heart sank as she realized it was an extremely rare incident – the elevator's generator had unexpectedly failed, causing a power outage.

"Ha, Miss, don't worry about it. It's a rare occurrence. Luckily, it's a workday, so someone will come to rescue you soon," a security guard told her. He was unaware of Jing Xiu'er's shock, her face as pale as a sheet.

P.S.: According to those involved, each time the office building experienced an elevator incident or power outage since that day, they claimed to have seen the mother and daughter once again.
