The world rocked, and Bryn had a second to remember a documentary he’d watched on earthquakes. He waited for the concrete to crack and the road to buckle. He bent his knees and hunched, bracing for an impact that never came.

“Bryn?” Ellis asked.

“Go home.” Bryn jogged in a drunken zigzag to the landscaping near the front door and barely made it in time before the puking portion of the night began. Any reasonably selfish human being would have left Bryn to sickness, but not Ellis, oh no. When Bryn was done heaving, an attentive hand rubbed his back.
